  1. If you can wait until Thurs-Friday I can get details of prices for standard models from about 87/88 onwards. I have the info at my office.
  2. I particularly like the type R sticker on the side.
  3. Chicks dig scars. I'm jealous.
  4. Yeah, over a third of the price of a new Mercedes is for the electronics. (and another third is for the little three pointed star on the front).
  5. Single turbos I dig... twin turbos, thats getting hardcore... four turbos is pretty damn badass... but 8 turbos??? How can you even put that on the scales? (but only 800hp??)
  6. A friend of mine has been a loyal BMW owner for some time... up until recently he owned an X5 and an M3 vert. Both very tasty cars. This guy trades one every 6 months so neither car is ever more than a year old. Now he has traded his X5 in for a Lexus RX330. When I asked him why, he says "its cheaper to run" Ok now I can understand a 3.3L V6 being cheaper to run than a 4.4L V8... but if you are spending this kinda money on cars every 6 months who gives a rats @ss if you're paying an extra $10-20 every time you fill up? At least he still has the M3.
  7. From the BMZ South Africa site: "BMW car keys have almost always been able to do more than simply unlock the door and start the engine and now, the BMW key, in conjunction with a KeyReader at service receptions, is even more "intelligent." Instead of having to answer a number of questions about the vehicle when the customer brings it in for a service, he simply hands over the keys. All the necessary information such as vehicle chassis number, distance driven and service interval display, are all stored in the key and reflected on the Dealer Management System via the KeyReader. The KeyReader is a new, innovative device from BMW Service that automatically reads the data stored in the car key. The dealer completing the service thus has easy access to important information used in determining the service requirements on a particular vehicle, without wasting the customer's time. The 3 Series sedan was the first to offer the key memory and this feature has been available on 5 and 7 Series vehicles since September 1999."
  8. Dude its classic... there's smoke pouring out the back of his VW, and he's standing there scratching his head looking under the bonnet. (ie- beetle = rear-engined) ... please tell me I'm not the only person who finds this funny.
  9. Mine doesn't... it opens up like a real car. :thumb: Speaking of opening bonnets... did anyone see that tyre ad where the guy's VW beetle breaks down & he's confused at having no engine under the bonnet?
  10. I would have pointed & laughed if the shoe string had broken.
  11. Except DNZ, his car will be in the shop getting something else fixed. Soz dude, it had to be said.
  12. It ain't "minders of the peace" !! How many lives have been forfeit as a result of US foreign policy. Take Iraq for example, as a result of the 1991 invasion, and the ensuing embargos they estimate up to 1.5 million Iraqis have died as civilian casualties during the war, plus disease, famine & all that good stuff that follow wars. Its more like "we know whats best for everyone." A large number of the items on that list pertain to stamping out Communism. Take Italy 1947-48, despite the fact that the strength of communism was probably the single largest force fighting the nazis in Italy in WWII, the US launched a massive campaign including bribery (eg- cancelling $1billion of government debt... in 1947 $ thats a mountain of cash), racial discrimination (eg- refusing all immigrants from Italy & Americans from going to Italy), huge PR campaign Hollywood style to the Italian public etc. ... and how hypocritical is this... quote from President Truman on March 12 1947 (The Truman Doctrine) "I believe it must be the policy of the United States to support free peoples who are resisting attempted subjugation by armed minorities or by outside pressures. I believe that we must assist free peoples to work out their own destinies in their own way" Hmm... ok I'm getting off my soap box now.
  13. SNAP! My wife is from Cali too. If you get South of LA (into Orange County, Corona del Mar etc) be prepared to have your mouth open all the time. The cars are stunning... high spec Mercs, Porsches etc. I once heard that almost 70% of the worlds Porsches end up in California.[policitcal rant] But while we're on GWB, American foreign policy has been hypocritical at best for a very long time. The Clinton adminstration had one of the better track records & reputations since Jimmy Carter. Pro-free trade, markedly improved relations with Europe and Asia etc (also no un-provoked invasions on his watch). But how about we take a trip down memory lane... a list of the US Military & CIA "interventions" since WWII: 1. China - 1945 to 1960s 2. Italy - 1947-1948 3. Greece - 1947 to early 1950s 4. The Philippines - 1940s and 1950 5. Korea - 1945-1953 6. Albania - 1949-1953 7. Eastern Europe - 1948-1956 8. Germany - 1950s 9. Iran - 1953 10. Guatemala - 1953-1954 11. Costa Rica - Mid-1950s 12. Syria - 1956-1957 13. Middle East - 1957-1958 14. Indonesia - 1957-1958 15. Western Europe - 1950s and 1960s 16. British Guiana - 1953-1964 17. Soviet Union - Late 1940s to 1960s 18. Italy - 1950s to 1970s 19. Vietnam - 1950-1973 20. Cambodia - 1955-1973 21. Laos - 1957-1973 22. Haiti - 1959-1963 23. Guatemala - 1960 24. France/Algeria - 1960s 25. Ecuador - 1960-1963 26. 14. No I don't think USA gets the compacts, their entry model is the 325i Sedan. They also get xi 3-series models that are 4WD.
  15. If he can afford an E46 hes probably not too worried about the gas prices.
  16. Sometimes the truth is more frightening than anyone else can fabricate.
  17. Looking very fine there Ali, great to get another E46'er on board. Post more pics when you can. :thumb: Gus I believe the '99 318 should be a 1.8L L4. 2002 model upgraded to a 1.9L and 2003 went to a 2.0L.
  18. But Gus would be their only client  Sounds awesome Andrew, btw National Bank has a good small business pack if you are interested. It includes a trial version of MYOB (accounting software). I got them to send me a pack for my wife's business.
  19. Hey that sounds cool, what is the purpose of the company? Importing BMW parts/cars/accessories or just to run the website?
  20. Looking down from the helicopter into the crevaces (those 'ice formations' are up to 10 meters high)
  21. From the top of the Franz Joseph glacier.
  22. View from my every room in my house (except the bathroom)
  23. The 8'series was never really that popular... they were overpriced BIG time. Brand new around $240k... in 1996-1997. With inflation at 3% that equates to $300,000 in todays dollars. Plus their performance wasn't actually that startling.
