  1. It does pay to shop at warehouse Turbine housing is titanium, magnesium comp cover and backplate, titanium turbine wheel and billet cnc t7 7075 comp wheel, ball bearing and inconal core blah blah blah
  2. This is the turbo im using, not many will if any will know what it is. Its called a RX8 ihi which is used in everything from can am cars to indy etc,its made from the best of the best supporting 1200hp and weighing in at 5.17kg. And the only way you get to own them is if your part of a team as such, just know the right people helps and cost? try around 20k us. I think its quit funny having a turbo worth more than your car
  3. Any setup ive done over the years i realy didnt care what it was tube or bar i was interested in the cfm rating and presure drop and size doesnt mean alot. Whatever you pick the cooling media is the same which is air temp passing over it, im a big fan of water/air. Air/air is normaly good for 50-65% eff and water/air 70-90% depending on the cooling media used eg: water/alcohol/ etc.
  4. [. How will you scale for such a large increase in injector size? MAPECU only recommend 2x the size of the standard injectors. +1 on dizzy cap conversion pics No stress it takes alot to get up my nose but ill let you know if it happens The mapecu also has another table where you can run extra injectors and map them to any point you like, you can even get away with stock injectors then blend then rest as is needed. So im apologise for not explaining the ignition side of things, having an external ignitor is easy for the mapecu but as peter has pointed out internal is a pain. Everyone does things differently but im not your normal type of performance shop( i dont actualy deal with the public) but i get off on it when someone says "you cant do that",i dont confess to know more than others as i realy dont know crap and lean something new every day even after 20 plus years of producing turbos around the planet. ps: im also not here to drum up work as im somewhat overloaded,i just like playing with things that are different and for now beamers are the flavour of the day.
  5. somewhere around ive got them cant take new ones as the heads getting done for mechanical cams at the moment, i think i have some picks of the lexus v8 ive converted to single cap. Im not using the bmw disy cap its to dam big and over the top in price.
  6. "Camb" should i hit him with both barrels? lol Well first off ben you dont know what i do for a business and i cant be bothered telling, i helped design the mapecu2 and part own the company, secondly i have converted the m50 to run a cap off the cam like a m20 thus ignition is easy and before you think coil on plug is better then tell that to f1 running a single coil over 5 bar!! Unless you know better please tell im always keen to learn. As anyone would know the ally block pulls studs out when you lean on it hard so not smart for making big power, that all ok with you? As for what the mapecu can do ive tuned cars over that power without a problem with it,like all tools there only as good as the person using it even motec can look like crap if not treated right. Anything else you would like to know? By the way my business is based world wide and was built on the base "you cant do that" yet to have someone prove other wise, you wont to be the first? And ben you havent got my back up...........yet
  7. is it on a starion or a cordia? the tco6 isnt the greatest turbo but can be changed and made into a tdo6
  8. ah many thanks for pointing out the typo, lets try 4 figures shell we
  9. Theres many reasons why a cam doesnt work, dropping it in without doing your home work first doesnt show a good result. Using a cam with .500 lift in head that runs out of flow at .400 isnt a smart idea same with duration. Theres alot more to cams than lift and duration. Theres alot bigger picture than hoping itll make power without everything done to support it.
  10. This is true but it doesnt hurt if you do and it makes for great bragging rights And cams trick cams do work well
  11. its chinese rubbish so i wouldnt want to say what it would do , your guess is as good as mine. theres also other brands apart from garrett
  12. i put some cams in so one is 900 and the other stock 700, to which isnt that high and would only be an issue if it was a auto
  13. very well documented info but as has been said ive never had any issues with both my cars when i converted to manual, turned key ran great both times
  14. Your on the money but i will add the farmer at dsr asked me to go to china to sort his issues he has with the rubbish he sells, gezz i wonder what i told him lolol Seriously you get what you pay for now in saying that dont take my word for it ask for the flow map for the turbo and the balance spec sheet, and i dont mean the flow map whens its on the car that can be changed easily to read what ever you like thats just a dyno graph. True comp maps on quality turbos are done by a turbine powered test rig,do a youtube for the test holset did on a chinese gem. Now he says on his trademe that they spent 3yrs developing the turbos they sell!!!! WHATEVER!!! They copied someone else who did the years of development lololol And on that note i wont have chinese crap in my shop but if you can afford a new engine when they distroy it when they let go then go for it.
  15. 1bar=14.503 and the amount of boost doesnt mean alot its the cfm it produces that makes the differance a 60 trim t3 can produce 320hp x 1.67= 534cfm a 3582r can produce 420hp x 1.67= 701cfm at 1bar theres a big differnce so even the 8psi stated doesnt mean alot. not pickig on anyone here or on other posts but a T3/4 again doesnt mean anything it only tells you the frame of turbo not what it can produce.
  16. itll be eaier to give me a ring or ill be typing for hours, ill pm you my number
  17. im in the middle of doing both a m50 and m42 turbo at the moment the m50 is getting the following block will be liquid hard blocked custom spec pistons H beam rods ARP head studs and bottom end studs crank scraper and custom sump custom mse intake manifold and exhaust headers 310/294 deg cams mech metal head gasket 1000cc injectors and a little turbo called A RX8 and the usual bits blah blah blah and with all that a MAPECU2 for a piggy back ecu all this is being done to both engines, why? cause i can and as for what boost im going to run? boost doesnt mean crap its just a number but output wise im just going to push it till something breaks then make that bit stronger till we get a 6 figure output. opps forgot the cam spec should allow it to see 10k rpm,the m42 wont spin that hard or push those numbers as its my company hack wagon but ill be happy with 300. and just cause its a bmw doesnt mean you cant do certain things, dont just do what makes others happy, do what they will remember
  18. might pay to have a look at the e36 on youtube then read what you just wrote, its always others that believe these things cant be done till some does it then they eat their words. from one of my usa customers i can buy a used IRL motor for under 10k
  19. judd v10 and before anyone does the usual stone throwing i know where one is for that price
  20. They will run without coolers but it does nothing for performance and anti detonation, charge air temps can raise well past 150 degrees c and when running on crap fuel thats not a good look. Yes you can retard timing but cly temps go up and again performance drops, a cooler is cheap insurance and low maintance. Water/alky works great but remember unless you have safety features built into it when the water runs out your back to square one and could cost you and engine if you have increased timing to go with it.
  21. superchargers are the one of the worst things as far as heat goes to which is there biggest down fall, yes turbos are exhaust driven and they too generate heat but alot easier to cool the charge air down over a sc. sc's take 33% of the crank to make them work turbo's are 5-7%, sc's are around 50-60% efficent verus a turbo at 85-95%.
  22. thats pretty unfair,we have given you good advise its just not what you want to hear im not about to teach someone how to tune with what ive learnt over the years in afew posts on a forum!!! there alot more to it than meets the eye and ive told you a very basic way to start it so dont bag those who have tried to help, and as someone has already said why would people like my self be bothered to waste the time to help. but hay what the hell would i know
  23. it has nothing to do with trade secrets ring your doctor and tell him you have sore finger and see what he tells you you cant do that over the phone nor email you have to see it to know theres many different ways to tune and you dont always get the same result i tune for torque not peak hp,torque makes you move also when tuning you need to have some way to measure temps on intake and exhaust to insure what your reading both in det and af is correct. you also looking for a rate of gain which works for both na and turbo eg:if you gain 5hp from 1 deg timing thats the gain factor, when you do so again but pickup 2hp your getting close to peak before det and egt goes up thus peak cly presure. at that point you add more fuel and the gain may go up again and if not your reached the max based on the fuels BTU's against compression,if your intuned with the eng you can pick this up if not then the dyno is very helpful. you get the idea to why its not that simple and this isnt a piss take? i dont even tell people this much cause it normaly ends in tears, you say its a cheap eng that great but your still the one to take it in and out each time it turns to custard not an option that i want to spend my time doing. i see you run a rotax? cool i run a 250 shifter
  24. no one has abused him and since this is your first post i would say you must be a mate of his the topic way over my head? i think we all know what a megasquirt is but thanks for the heads up. and i think there maybe good reason for using the pros to do a job versus asking on a forum and do a hit and miss as i havent been tuning very long so i cant help much. but it sounds like you have a handle on things so i guess theres no point asking anyone here is there? and ill say sorry to him if it makes you feel better, im still new at this and only been doing this for over 22yrs and writting for different mags but with your outstanding input im picking up great skills, many thanks
