  1. I asked my great aunt (who is 80 and has been playing the stock market since the 1960s), and she recommends JB Were Goldman Sachs. Her other tip was to try and get a personal broker who is neither brand new to the industry, or one who has been in it far too long.
  2. That must be lovely to own.
  3. Haha, we took it to BP on the way home from the bach, and the car wash said it did 'under- body' washes. What a rip off! Look at all the sand in the mudflaps! Hoisted it up today for a damned good hosing underneath, spent about an hour at it so should remain rust-free. Might have to give her a polish and prepare her for more beach fun when we go up again next month!
  4. Took the E30 up to Waitarere for New Years holiday, and thought she looked worthy of photographic record whilst sunning herself on the beach.
  5. Nice, but surely it's a crime to put filler over the text on a real Alpina spoiler?
  6. Just goes to show how few Diesel models get sold in the USA! Hybrids suck.

I thought it was the other way round?
  8. Plenty of headroom in mine with a sunroof, and I'm six foot. I think it makes a little bit of difference in the rear where they sunroof goes back into and the seat squab is higher than the front seats. But probably very marginal, the E30 interior is generally quite spacious for the size of car given the engine layout.

Odd, on One News at 6pm the director of BMW NZ said he couldn't and wouldn't say how much the 7 series had been sold for, and the newspapers were reporting a list price of $170,000. At $90,000 it seems much more reasonable to me, perhaps they had decided to report the price to get rid of some of the bad PR. However it makes me feel sorry for any private new car buyers who are obviously getting ripped off for BMWs in New Zealand!

I wanted them to get black Citroen C6's, purely because they are the most stately and cool large car on the market. I think 7 series were an unwise choice from a public perception point of view, the fuel consumption is not wonderful and it's a fool who thinks they are even slightly 'green'. Also, It will take an awfully long time, even as high-mileage government taxis, to save enough money in fuel costs to make up for the $100,000 per item initial cost of a BMW over the other mooted options (Skoda Superb TD, Peugeot 607 HDi, Chrysel 300Cd) That, and 7's tend to have a reputation for huge depreciation- Mercedes S Class' always have the advantage here. At least the Statesmans and Fairlanes were popular and in demand as taxis by used buyers because of their low tech maintenance costs. That, and I don't particularly wish to see John Key being driven round in a $170,000 car we all paid for...

I saw Jeanette Fitzsimons on One News just before, asking why they needed thirty-four BMW Limousines for visiting dignitaries and the like, because we only have one Queen. Whilst sharing some of Ms Fitzsimons concerns, I must remind her that the current Labour Cabinet includes about five queens.
  12. My car was bought for a butcher's wife in Levin back in June 1990, and has achieved every stamp in her service book. I believe it had a well pampered, but ultimately unexciting life in small town New Zealand. Perhaps one day, she will be used as a getaway car.
  13. If 'cringe-inducing' is an emotion then yes. It was terrible, there we agree.
  14. That was a terrible ad. It was soppy and his command of the English language was particularly lack-lustre.
  15. Haha, I saw that too, whilst searching for BMW station wagons for sale. I thought perhaps it was a TradeMe test listing (they do them sometimes) but it's listed to a dealership, whatever 'it' is. Time to fire the office girl, methinks!
  16. I usually have my front fog-lights on when my headlamps are operative, and my rear ones are always switched off. This is myself using aforementioned sound judgment, because I know the front lamps are angled downwards, whereas the rear fog-lamps are unspecific in their focus. Though they can be very useful for reversing into my garage if I want a bit more light.
  17. Even closer to home, Martyn- try Eastbourne in mid-winter! It's hard to tell where the road meets the sea on a foggy day out here. Though I will agree, it doesn't have a patch on Yorkshire fog.
  18. I agree with you. The front fog-lamps on most BMWs tend to be small and if adjusted to factory specification, downward facing, and I have never been dazzled by them. However, the large, usually round auxiliary lamps such as those seen on Subaru WRXs are far too bright, and I would not classify them as fog-lamps- they are plainly spot-lamps, which is a whole different kettle of fish altogether. Sadly, given that police officers, like traffic wardens, IRD auditors, and ACC assessors, are generally of too low intelligence to use discretionary judgment, they will fine you for it in any case. I also find the raised headlamps on four wheel drive vehicles exceptionally annoying, much like the females and estate agents who inevitably drive them.
  19. Nice, but who is Frank when he's not at home? I saw a new CL63 AMG in white a few weeks back in Petone, they look much better in the flesh than in photos!
  20. How is it a 1986 model, I thought FL wasn't until mid 1987 for RHD markets?
  21. Pfft, call that a steep driveway! Nice car by the way... I really like Z4s, best executed example of Bangleism along with the E60 Touring... Would look great on a set of Z4M wheels. Fill those flame-surfaced arches nicely.
  22. Electric Light Orchestra gets my vote. Catchiest songs ever!
  23. Haha I 'bought' an E30 325i SE for $1 buy now once. Bastard wouldn't let me have it He made the same mistake as you!
