Accident in Tauranga.

Recommended Posts

What I don't get is when Someone can go 70kph down the main street, mid day...where sensibly you should be doing 40max, and get $170ish dollar fine.

And someone else can walk down the same street at 12am, smash a window, and get arrested, chucked in the cells, court date, where he'll probably get a big as fine/community service.

I'm not saying the second person shouldn't get it, I'm saying the first should. Whats more dangerous to the community which the police are trying to protect????

just my 2c

antony

most retarded thing i've ever heard, worst analogy ever! do you think before you speak?

smashing a window is malicious, driving 20km over the speed limit is not.

as far as all the other replies go, Kerry nicely summed this country up. and ... my opinion ....

we need to implement an anti retard system, one which stops retarded politicians, retarded parents, and their retarded kids being retards, i have no tolerance for people without common sense, f**k i'm a wanker.

its easy to be a wise man on the internet with some time to think of replies and the way things should be

my grandma asked me why i dont try and be a politician..my reply? i think i have far too much common sense

Just like to point out: there is only ONE person in history that really understood politics!

His name was GUY FAWKES!

LEE HARVEY OSWALD came a close 2nd [we need these 2 characters in NZ now!]

I tend to agree with most of you and i like the idea of compulsary insurance but if the govt enforces that then insurance companies need a kick up the arse.

18year olds can get insurance on WRXs and the like. My 16year old brother can get insurance on a 92 VR4 and it was going to cost him the same amount as his E34 525i!! And his anunual premium is like $600 for full cover.

Someone at the top needs to pull their head in and figure out a way to stop kids from getting their dumb hands on some cheap rice rocket thats going to do more bad than good.

Sadly, its a sign of the times that we now live with in NZ

When I was younger, we had discipline @ home

Discipline @ school

This taught self discipline & respect

Respect for others, and the respect for others property

Now, we have neither

AND OUR GOVT IS REDUCING THE AMOUNT OF DISCIPLINE THAT CAN BE GIVEN @ HOME & SCHOOL ????

Where the hell are we going ???

PS .. There are a hell of alot of really good young people out there.....but unfortunately we are breeding more idiots

Just my 2cents worth

my thinking is that this country is trying and is fast becoming a 'nanny-state'.one where the goverment runs and controls everything. If put in that light it sounds like a socialists dream. But then where are aunty Helens roots?

doesnt help having a media that hypes everything out of proportion.

kids will be kids.only things changed is the hp rating of cars.and at what price we can buy it.20+ yrs ago if you were to crack 100 mile/hour you had a grunty car.

I hate the response 'in my day', it doesn't cut it.

You cant stop this sht. Its like prohibition.

The answer is control of it. They need places where you can go to 'rark it up'.

Heavy punishments wont do sht.

The media is a massive factor though. I mean "boy racing" isn't really that big a problem. One dude died, that sux, but its not like people are dying every weekend from it.

The media lump in that party where people got run over with 'boy racing'. That guy was charged with murder. i.e. he intentionally tried to run people over. That has nothing to do with street racing at all. (If you argue 'youth culture - then extend it to the whole society's culture).

Also how come if you're rich you cease to be a boy racer? Ie 'my' GTR skyline = boy racer but my GT3 Porsche = successful car enthusiast.

I totally agree with you.

When did this cut off happen though? I left school (7th form) 5 years ago - I remember being taught discipline there.

I find it hard to believe schools have changed a huge amount in that time (but it wouldn't surprise me if they had)

Oh really.....so if you were to have your car taken and crushed, given a 20k fine (so you couldnt just go out and replace it) and lost your licence for 12 months you would continue to be an ar$e on the roads ? I dont think so.

There's heavy and there's fcuking heavy.

NZ has become a country of people that blames everyone else for their problems rather than taking responsibility for their own actions.

All they need to do is compolsary insurance, and it's nigh on impossible for a 18 year old to insure a WRX.. Easy as that. Doesn't stop retards in slow cars crashing them and dragging though.

I think this country needs to have a big cup of harden the f**k up, Just because one person gets killed (well make that a couple each month) we need to change the laws bla bla bla.... I'm assuming more people die of workplace related injuries but every time one of them happens we don't see it on the news. Unless it's something cool, Like falling into a chip-miller.

Stupid PC society.

Sound logically, but how many of these cars are even theirs? I think having compolsary insurance is a good thing yes, but won't stop dragging in general as people will still steal cars etc and will get their insurance companies to pay out.

In my day does cut it, as far as I can see..

Do the crime, Do the time.

No blaming society for the actions one person/persons does / did

Dont let them out off prison before the term is up.

and none of this paying off fines at $5 pre week cause "i cant afford it"

folks who are licensed to drive should be held accountable for the privalage.or any other activity for that matter

as for the guy who got killed-why did he get in the way?what was he doing there in the first place?

what was the last thing going through his mind?'look two moons'?

I'm shore they were racing chariots illegaly many moons ago

i didnt pass 5 form english

I wouldnt think school has changed, maybe a bit, but when I finished 7th form, I had learned discipline, but the key thing that I think I had been taught is respect for others, that guy in the 90's shithouse corolla doin skids and ripping up the hand break, no respect whatso ever, if you were to talk to him and ask him why he's doing it, you'd get some STUPID idiotic reply cos its cooll or something, or you'd get a defensive reply and he'd get agro.

Bringing up the driving age, or introducing the aussies system as already mentioned would be effective IMO.

You lose you licence now for excessive speeding. The fines for excessive speeding are more than 'boy racers' can afford now. So if its $3k or $100k it makes no difference.

You think people doing all this stuff stop and think, "oh ok, the possible punishment is not too bad so i'll do it"

There's no way. They just do it. Why? Because it feels good I suppose.

If 'heavy punishments' worked how come USA (with by far the biggest per capita prison population) still has crime?

Surely the death penalty, (the heaviest punishment), should have wiped crime out?

Of course it hasn’t. Like someone said, you cant outlaw fun.

The only real solution is provide some controlled environment to do this stuff. There are way too many people who are passionate about cars, you will never stop it. (in the short term).

I put this to you. What is the point in any car that can do more than 100km?

Why are high performance cars even legal at all?

Shouldn't all cars come with a factory restriction of 110km?

There is no resonable argrument for allowing a high performance car on the road.

Oh you can responsible use that 300hp? BS. Its for accelerating at a rapid rate, (illegal - you try a 0-100 sprint in a 100km area in front of a cop and see what happens), or going over the speed limit.

Either provide a regulated environment to 'boy race', or outlaw/restrict any car that can go over 110km.

The motor industry/lobby has too much power for high performance cars to be banned, but how long that will last im not sure.

Make hay while the sunshines is what some people may say.

agreed, thats bullshit. They can afford the massive repayments on cars and go fast bits but can only pay 5bux a week in fines, yeah right.

The point has already been made but kids have been playing around in cars for years. All thats happened is that fast cars are now cheap and plentiful.

+1 for compulsory insurance too

With the fining thing, I know of people with 20k+ fines added up (mainly from driving on thier learners...) They just go 'Oh well it's so f**king big, whats another amount ontop of that - add it to my bill'

When you don't pay for an extended period of time, they can take your car off you but usually the car's not where it should be and they just piss ass around, and they can go direct to your employer to withdraw money from your wages.

Last weekend a friend of mine (who I have no symphathy for whatsoever) got caught drag racing on the south islands most patrolled and fined strecth of road - On a saturday night...

Caught drag racing:

- Instant loss of license for 6 months + court summons

- vehicle impounded for 28 days

- green stickered (just for the hell of it, I mean if it's drag racing it's probably illegally on the road)

And the speed he was doing (94kms..)

- Instant loss of license + court summons

- vehicle impoundment

- huge fine ($1000+)

And now, because he's got over $20k of fines from driving on his learners when he was 15 and this, he has to pay $3500 in 2 weeks or his car gets sold - and he can't just hide it.. because it's at the tow yard for 28 days ;)

It's the time of not having a license thats going to deter him, not the finatial cost.

Heres my 2C,

Ban the sh*t, when I was under 20 yeah I did that too, but we did it in the bush/industrial areas where there were no families, houses, people sleeping, children and dogs and cats ... in other words back in the early/mid 90's we had RESPECT.

These days, its like these guys have no fu*king brains and just do what they want and where they want ... and they are going to pass a "anti smacking bill" as well, what the fu*k is wrong with this country???

Under 20 years old now - NO RESPECT.

Dont get me wrong - there are alot of under 20 year olds who what their doing, ones that drive Euro's - but not ones pimed out like jappas with a muffler as big as a Kauri tree and their car pumping out 90BHP.

In Auz, USA, Canada it aint like it is here because the government is too busy forking money out to unemployed people and single mums and suckers like me pay for them!! And cops/government are too insterested in sending taxis out to Piha in emergencies, getting out DIC charges themselves instead of protecting the streets.

New Zealand needs to harden the F**k up and start setting some rules:

1. Compulsary insurance, a least Third party and must be displayed on windshield.

2. Under 20 year olds - no motor car higher than 1600cc / no turbo / supercharger etc

3. Have a licence system like Australia - learners for fu**ing ages, then P's, then black, silver, gold

4. Any drag race in a residential area at 2.00am etc disturbing others - arrest all spectators, drivers suspended for 3 months instantly / impound car / Big ass fine

5. Those drivers who have spent all their money on boost, turbo, oil gauges displayed on their dash with a car that cant push sh*t up a hill and try to think their in WRC - bin them and get a real car.

6. - I have no problem with having fun with cars, drifting, race wars etc .... but just have some respect!! be reponsible about it, drag outside rural areas and use their brain

While were at at ... When I catch these cun*s that tag my fence, can I take him down the lake and ...

Dude, that more than your 2 cents worth.

there comes a time, in everyones life when they become too old and bitter to be taken seriously. How do you know when that time comes? when you start saying "LOCK EM' UP AND THROW AWAY THE KEY!"

are you deranged? "arrest all the spectators" have you not heard of the troubles the NZ police already have with managing high numbers of criminals?

my 2c worth...

the people who attend these events and participate are often criminally minded, violent people yet people assume if they werent racing/skids they would be at home reading the bible.

personally, a car racing or sitting stationary with smoke coming off its tyres isnt all that bad when you consider what else they could be doing

haha are you serious? when you have got many kids with $20, 000g+ fines that wont work. a car can be bought for 50$ sometimes less. people like this probably never had licences to take away in the first place. they would continue to drive regardless. So people say "throw them in jail!" well the jails are full with REAL criminals so that wont work either.

the problem cannot be solved. i say give them a large space out of town where they can let loose and at least some may use it.

"boyracers" pay tax like everybody else and have to pay for the deranged old people who complain about them to stay alive in resthomes etc,, how about giving something back to them?

the money paid in boy racer related fines should be put towards this cause?

Think your on the wrong side of the street in this debate...

If that kind of punishment was dished out, the fines would never be payed. Theres no way alot of people could afford that. Already there are people with 20k fines and the courts just wipe it cause there is no possible way they can pay it.

If the fools can afford to spend the cash on the cars in the first place, they can afford to pay their fines. The arguement that they cant afford to pay is pathetic. What more realistic is that no-one makes them pay the fines so they dont.

Stop making it easy for them. Take the car away and sell it to cover the fines. Then let the banks have their piece when they default on the loan.

I blame the banks to a certain degree too, its so easy these days to get credit its not funny. They dont care because they have a hold over something in return for the loan but it seems that any fool can walk into a bank and walk out with 10k no matter how little they earn.
