It's not auto... it's manual!

In fact it has the same Getrag dog leg gearbox as the E30 M3 from what I gather.

Having said that, I just drove that NZ New Stock M325 and it was brilliant... Actually so much more gutsy that I expected. Might have to get the Chch E30 pro's to see it with me again to give me some perspective...

I think I am in love again

Really? Interior photo makes it look like an auto, gear sticks on a hell of a lean.

I'd say an M325 would go better, smaller, lighter, reliable.......ish.

Do it! Come for a burn tomorrow in my car, just got it back today. For comparison's sake. :D

Yeh man, I am keen. Flick me a text when you free :)

Yeh man, those Cosworth's were no joke... quite the driving machine :)

I was leaning towards Merc, now I am heading back to Bimmer especially considering he is flexible on his price.

Having said that, he is a car dealer and that was a trade-in car so he knows very little about it. Just means I will have to do all the proper background research.

I am probably going to get roasted here but.......................

if it was me I would be looking at a 190e Cosworth over an E30 325i!

I voted for the 2.7 mainly because the engine is fresher and would be a good base to add your "Crazy" personal touches.

But there is something about the 190E that appeals to me. Take them both for a blat and see which you like more :D

The 2.5 you took for a drive only has 14in weaves. They are suxxors. 195 tires only. Ask him where the wider 15's went!!

I'll come have a look with you if you want :)

Well, the 2.7 just sold that will have to scratch that one off the list.

Merc vs NZ New M325... hmmm.

lol, I dunno I think it would be a close race. Judging from the replies here I think the Merc may have the upper hand.

I think the main thing for me is that the M325 is here in Chch where all these other cars are up north. I have a few trips up there in July so might see if I can pop in and take one for a spin to compare.

From what I have read, the Merc seems to have far better handling. I just can't see it being as "nippy" as the E30 though.

1 vote for the cosworth.

I'd be heading down the M325 route if it had a few more extras, e.g. leather recaros etc.

Merc seems to be alot of car for the money.

But I would have no doubt gone the 2.7 over the cosworth. No doubt.

Better yet - http://www.trademe.co.nz/Trade-Me-Motors/C...n-217867000.htm

Wof has expired, but its in good nick, I know that for a fact, and your going to be tracking it, its a realistic price for a good car.

Edit: "Will be sold with new wof and reg" - win?

The 2.7 would probably be easier/cheaper to maintain...but a M3 rival for less? I'd still go for the Cosworth...

I wonder what the reserve is on the un-wof'd, un-reg'd M325i?

I think the reserve is around the 9k mark from memory.

Place a bid at 6k and when the auction finishes it will say what the reserve is.

I'll throw another 2 cents in. The 325i beat the Cosworth Merc in either the German or European (maybe both) Touring Car Champs in '86 before the M3 even came out. That plus we looked at buying an '87 Cosworth in 1990. it was NZ New, lowish ks and had had $13k spent on maintenance in the last 12 months, stranding the owner 3 times on the motorway. The M325i for me every time then.

M3 rival? Hardly.

M3 rival? Hardly.

I don't see why not? 80's DTM rivals. Both highly strung 16v 4cyl, decent suspension, dogleg, quick steering racks, etc. They were built as rivals. I don't think there's any denying that. I'm sure the Merc is slower, but both have fantastic heritage!

In terms of dynamics the Merc is probably more comparable to a M325i I guess? But a hell of a lot more car than a M325i for less money.

significant price drop on the NZ New M325i

Now he has really got my attention! It's obvious he is keen to sell so planning to take her in for an inspection, make sure it's tip top and has LSD then come up with an offer.

I am thinking 7-8k mark seems like a reasonable price if those km's are genuine?

p.s.

Dude, considering people are estimating the car with 400k's on it will go for 6k, if the k's on this car are genuine IMO 8g is a STEAL!

The chassis number can't be decoded by the BMW VIN decoder.... did you get that number from Carjam?
