I'll be the token guy with a slightly alternative opinion who thinks that the wheels could be smaller. Still love the the project though!

Alllso, seems there are new rules for certs that say you cant run any more than 1/2 degree camber outside of factory limits. Guess these wheels will have to stay on longer than thought which annoys me somewhat.

Oh, and Max, got any nice 16x8/9s for me to swap? :P

That sounds like BS, or made up by some arse clown. (I really hope)

got any text / reference on this, must be more to it...

and if it's the case, my E30 won't be on the road again :(

and all of the slam'd E30/36/46's rolling on chom'es would all be illegal / uncertifiable - YAY

At the moment youre fine, and again these rules are written in a way which its left upto the certifier to make a judgement call.

http://www.lvvta.org.nz/documents/standard...ion_Systems.pdf

2.4(3) All low volume vehicles must handle in a manner which allows

good steering control in all normal driving conditions, including:

(a) well controlled ride on uneven surfaces without excessive

pitch movement, or direction change upon full suspension

compression; and

(B) progressive and positive feel with no kick-back through

the steering wheel during turn-in and turn-out; and

© no excessive under-steer or over-steer tendencies during

constant radius cornering, including when encountering

mid-corner bump disturbances; and

(d) directional stability with immediate self-centring after

sharp minor steering inputs; and

LVVTA Low Volume Vehicle Standard 195-00(00) (Suspension Systems) Page 11 of 12

© Low Volume Vehicle Technical Association (Inc.) 1 December 2000

(e) immediate and easy controllability when encountering

direction change as a result of road camber changes or

surface irregularities; and

(f) no tendency to climb the road camber toward the opposing

lane.

[heading OT]

Thats the same as it's been for many years, and how mine was cert'd back in '02

I'm more concerned if they start adding more fields to the cert plate / process, like the current ride height & wheel size.

What next

Camber Max/Min:

Caster Max/Min:

Toe Max/Min:

Almost be asking for a vehicle specific alignment sheet based on the OE.

The cops going to carry around camber gauges and toe-plates too...

I can understand from a anal-facist must keep it all inside our risk profile POV

But is totally negative towards dual duty cars like my own, which still drive on the road better than a T-bucket, but are well outside say +0.5° Camber over stock for example

[/heading OT]

I need more pics to drool over westy, the pseudo project effect is wearing off and guilt is creeping back in.

This

just got back from certifier training.

new rule- re camber, max is now original manufacturers specs, plus half a degree.

thats going to be difficult........

From a reliable source. Certifiers constantly train/amend things as things as they go. Not sure if this one has a hope of lasting as makes all sorts of headaches for all sorts of people. Lets hope not.

I read that as "dont lower you car to stupid heights with massive amounts of camber then fit unsuitable spring rates because your wheels hit your guards so you can chase fashion over function" The rest is down to certifier disgression.

This is probably an attempt to control unreasonable suspension geometry, however the stated limits would be hard to police. It does however still give the ability to refuse what is wrong and dangerous with a stated clause.
