Five most popular vehicles on Trade Me from mods motors.

'87 Holden VL

'91 Nissan Skyline R32 GTS-t

'96 Nissan Skyline GTR V-spec

'81 Holden Commodore SL

'90 Nissan Skyline R32

I had to laugh, seems that is what most Kiwi's aspire to own. Yay for ambition.

I didn’t even know Skylines were cool

I need to go and buy a Performance Car magazine and brush up on the Whats and Whats Not’s.

Popular? As in searches made or amount listed? I'm guessing it's searches as R33 Vspecs aren't too common.

Frankly I'm surprised the Japanese commodore (Cefiro) isn't on there..

And here I was thinking Graham had nothing better to do than troll through Trade Me counting the number of views every car has had.

VL Commie was quite a good thing in its day.

Especially the 3 Litre.... was one of the best Holdens ever made. The Turbo version was fun to drive as well.

Agree, the 3.0L went hard, my mate has both a VL 3.0 and a VN SS and in a drag race the SS only starts catching it at around 300m. We didnt get the Turbo.

There were a couple of private imports of the turbo version. One of my customers had one.

Although, compare a VL to a nice E28....I know what I prefer to drive. The one without the horrid chassis flex. I hate VL's. only thing they are good for is a beach/skid/farm hack these days. We had a VK when I was a kid...I remember watching BFMR familias and E30's dissapearing into the horizon....

How does one aspire to own a VL?

had a 88 VL 3L 5spd for 4 years , drove ok , i did a bit of work to it .

brought it with 130k on the clock sold it with 300k on the clock .

was good untill about 250k when every 10k something failed , like battery , alternator , starter , head cracked(under the cam) headers kept breaking the head stuts so fitted aftemarket headers .

they rust and leak . not the best handling car and i had fitted a lower set of springs and shocks in it .

used to consistantly get about 600km per tank and one time about 700km

but that engine was pretty good but a bit detunned by holden i think.

my mates old man had a turbo one , apparantly went pretty hard even in automatic form
