ED1RTY 2 Report post Posted February 16, 2011 Bit of a random topic for this forum but i just want to know if anyone has had major nerve damage and how long it took to repair? I lacerated my left arm on the weekend, just inside the elbow, wasted the main artery, tendon and nerve. Now i cant feel my hand/forearm. Ive been told by the docs i can expect it to take 1-2 months for the nerve to realise its fooked then it will grow back at a rate of 1mm per day from then on (leading to approx 12-18 months of no feeling) Its been 4 days and feel like im already going crazy, I cant do sweet f.a and its frustrating as f**k, think No fishing, No computer games, Mission to shower (full arm cast) mission to cook, everything is a pain in the ass (well arm in this context) So yea just wondering if anyone has been through similar and could let me know how long it took to come right/what they did while they were as frustrated as I am. ED1RTY 2 Report post Posted February 16, 2011 haha good call Glenn, i've already been told that option by a few mates Nothing major, was cleaning up a broken beer bottle and had a mate run out the door, didn't see me and yea, shanked myself in the arm. JFry 1 Report post Posted February 16, 2011 I haven't been able to feel most of my left thigh since surgery, start of 2008. Has got heaps better since then, but it's not perfect yet. Only took about a year and a half to get feeling back, but still feels kind of detatched, just not quite the same. I would imagine yours will heal up faster though cause you'll actually be using it. The missus had surgery done on her sholder 2 years ago and the surgon f**ked up and damaged a nerve, 2 years later and she is in constant pain all the time and her neck (where the surgery was done) is sensitive to any touch and she has pain radiating down her arm and into her index finger. She takes more pain killers than a junkie and the surgon won't admit to the mistake although the pain center she has to go to admits the problem. They say it could be up to another 3 years before things could come right and there is nothing they can do. Well they have said they can re operate and kill off the nerve but then she would loose most of the feeling in her left arm. Quote Share this post Link to post Share on other sites

I live with a pretty nasty back injury, disc pinching nerve in lower r/h side, due to lifting heavy things stupidly. 90% of the day my right side (limbs) including arm etc swell, to the point where I take the innersoles out my my r/h side boot and am unable to remove my rings on one finger. Tristan 338 Report post Posted February 16, 2011 In late 2007 when I was 15 I came off my bike over the handlebars and tore my lip off my jaw, broke my jaw and fractured my left cheek bone. In the doctor's words I "skeletolised the nerve" on the front left of my chin. I lost feeling for about 6 months, as a year approached more feeling began to come through. Now I can feel it, but it's sensitive to touch, but not painful. It tingles sometimes when I drink something, it also tingles when it rains. The doctor thinks that it's healed as much as it will. It's no trouble and I barely notice it but hopefully this gives you an insight. As someone above said, only time can tell as it differs from person to person and injury to injury. My 2c. Well i didn't do anything as spectacular as you but I did put a knife down my index finger spitting ham steaks (went in, hit the bone, and slid down opening it up for quiet some distance - still get woozy thinking about it). Basically had no feeling in most of that finger for years. I got used to it but it does have about 90% feeling compared to my other fingers - but not 100%. That was 15 years ago! bravo 34 Report post Posted February 16, 2011 Chopped through the nerve on my thumb on the fan of the 327 eater (so that'll tell you how long ago). Lost feeling for about a year, but after the first couple of months got a bit of tingle near the base of the cut like pins and needles. Doctor told me this was a good sign of the nerve regrowing. Now I have feeling back totally, but pins and needles right on the tip, so must be the last bit finally healing. Keiti did some damage to a nerve in her accident in the e30. Has constant pins and needles down her finger. That was a couple of years ago that happened. Dad had a heavy pump dropped on his index finger when he was younger. Severed the nerve completely. Never got feeling back to his finger tip and it goes a weird colour when its cold. You'll mend good enough I'd say, but you may have some loss of feeling or tingling for a very long time or life. deeveus 81 Report post Posted February 16, 2011 (edited) It can't be fun, I had someone drop a 2 meter high glass picture on my leg when I lived in Melbourne shaving 70mm of skin off my leg removing any feeling off it whatsoever, it has however become better and better with time. ED1RTY 2 Report post Posted February 16, 2011 Cheers guys, I guess at this stage I need to focus on getting the wound healed and just keep the movement going in my hand, Like some have said, i get random blotches of pins and needles so i guess thats a good sign. Got an appt next week to see how im progressing. Josh, i also have bad back pain haha, slipped two discs in the last 5 years (family history of sh*t backs) Downloaded Age of Empires 3 last night and am also the new regular at the movie shop. Its not gunna stop me going on a fishing charter that i organised for next weekend (also pissed cos today would have been pearla for it!) maybe just a sign i need to slow down a bit. I'm stuck with sciatica, lower back pain and a munted hip. Caused by a nice wee bike accident in '05. But, I can still walk (for now) so I'm going to live it up while I can. Ben 0 Report post Posted February 16, 2011 I dont know if its nerve damage cause I never asked but I broke my leg when I was 10 and then my ankle when I was 13, from my knee down it starts hurting in cold weather but TBH doesnt really bother me Got a wisdom tooth pulled last month and it still feels numb, dentist said it should come right in a couple months but dont be suprised if it doesnt feel 100% Go buy Xbox kinect thats all hands free gaming While Im at it, the missus ran me over on new years 09 and fractured my hip I was walking like a g-unit for 6 weeks ha Quote Share this post Link to post Share on other sites

After 6 or 7 years he finally decided to have it lopped off... It's scarey when you think about how fragile you are. After 6 or 7 years he finally decided to have it lopped off... It's scarey when you think about how fragile you are. He currently having a bike customized so he can ride one armed and he's been competing in cycle races recently.I would hate to loose a limb! Good on him for staying on bikes, I have stayed on them, they are like a drug! I just ride sensibly now... Not too keen on breaking myself more.
