progress

Today I picked up the push rod to change gears. I've had to extend the linkage between the gearbox and the shifter as the seat is as far back as I can get it.

the short linkage is uuc, the long is a copy from a friend. SSSHHHH. don't tell. Its 315mm long from hole to hole.

The other part is the adaptor to hold the rear brake callipers in place as they are not factory fit.  This still has some work before I'm happy.

small update.

Spacer plates done and brakes fitted .

It took longer than I thought as I checked each stage but are now happy with the look and fitment.

Lets hope they work.

today I went and had some lines made up to finish off the plumbing from the peddle box .

2 extend by 75mm lines from the chassis  to the brake callipers.

3 lines from the reservoirs to the peddle box

1 line to run to the rear brakes 1m

1 line to the clutch 1m

An eye watering $438

I tried a couple of shops but they didn't do braided lines.

I ended up at GSS

And people ask why I shop overseas, even with freight and tax its cheaper than here.

Yeah braided lines aren't cheap when it's custom, I ended up spending about 1,450 on all mine

I wonder if it works out cheaper to buy the crimping tools and make your own if you need that many?

Too late now obv, but Melbar (sp) cables in Welli are pretty good to deal with for custom cables.

 

Also, holy sh*t those are some big calipers!

355mm up front and 330mm back  32mm thick and 6 pots. yes was a good deal at the time.

Do you have cad files for the caliper brackets?
Ive got the same front calipers (and maybe rears) and was hoping to save some work.

I'd completely understand if you don't want to share.

 No sorry I don't have a cad set up. I made them up from 10mm Ply and shaped them to fit .

What you see is the 3rd template with adjustments and a very patience engineer.

shifter install.

The last time I was involved in metal work was back in high school.

I work with timber plaster and paint.

So I turned this into this,

I got a mig welder for fathers day.

I started my first weld 6 hrs ago

It was free. I think its 3mm.

I'm going to have a crack at the exhaust next, 2.5" or 3" tube which is best.

Saw this car in the flesh last nice and it's friggin' awesome.

And I can assure you all that the wheels, tyres, brakes and seat are all bigger and better in real life than they are in the pics.

I don't want to be a downer, but you should get more time practice welding before welding critical bits. It looks like you're using gas but having trouble getting the settings right? this is especially hard when welding thicker bits (the 3mm) to panel steel. The welds should end up smooth, not blobby, and sort of flow/blend into the metal; when running the arc should sound a bit like frying bacon (rapid crackle etc).

It's still a wicked shifter, and sweet build.

so on the weekend I chopped out some fat.

To be fare was only 8kg'ish. But when adding new parts a balance has to be found.

note the extra room for the diffuser.
