Insurances

Recommended Posts

Just cancelled my car insurance with State. They wouldn't insure my car with my BBS RGs on there. So I cancelled my contents too.

Any recommendations?? Has any one else had issues?

When you have wheels that worth as much as the car itself, that's where you get into problem with mainstream insurers.

Try a broker or specialist insurers like NAC or Swann

AA Insurance were about the best deal when I was shopping around, they were pretty good when my A4 was rear ended and written off the day after I bought it. Paid out the full agreed amount within a few days, refunded the excess inside in of 24 hours, and refunded the premium. On the other hand they declined an OEM windscreen under their glass policy. State were about twice the premium, I don't know why anyone uses them.

I recommend AA for price and most of all service. 'Am pretty sure that STATE have other priorities than car insurance, as there seem to be so many complaints about theirs.

State have been awesome for me, and when the flat was burgled was the best out of AMI / Aon / State. We were all with different providers which was interesting.

State is a swear word for me... long memory - I was shafted by them way back when I was a teenager at home & in my dads car. A minor incident but told I was not subsequently going to be covered driving any of the family members cars - yep all with State (along with all other insurances). Old man then told them to cancel all policies

I/we have always been with AMI, & when I last did a comparison - AMI were still the most competitive I found - over all policies. AA stacked up as next best.

Thanks, unfortunately AMI will not cover my vehicle due to the modifications. Not that there are many real major ones.

My flatmate is giving me details of her broker, so I may see how I can get on through them.

Didn't realise it would be such a hassle with a car like mine any ways!

And unfortunately neither will AA (I'm not a bad driver! I swear!).

Tower - when I checked - they were nowhere near the ball park with any policies for me.

Raewyn, seems strange what have I missed? Have you had a claim? How long have you had a policy?

Have you checked third party, fire/theft as an option?

I'm a bit miffed by it all. I honestly thought I was doing the right thing by advising State. I wouldn't of minded paying extra in my premium for my mag wheels to be covered.

Only claim I've ever made is a windscreen chip to be repaired. I had an accident about 5 years ago, but that's history.

Had a policy with State for about a year.

Thought about third party, fire & theft, but I would rather have full cover just in case something happens. I couldn't do with out a car.

Not many extreme mods done on my car as seen on my project thread

I don't really want to have to cut off my arm to pay for my insurances either...

did you visit AMI in office or over the phone? you will get two different experiences with their service.

So far just an online quote. Typed in a few details, came back almost straight away rejected. I need to do some ringing around at least. Though I just don't understand how it can be such a hassle insuring an E30. There's a few of them in NZ.

as soon as you tick the "modified" column, combined with age etc, its a b*tch. My excess is 50% of the insured value. Technically, your BBS' are factory :P so just run with that. Just set your value at 2500 or something

Have you tried SWANN ? My E30 race car is fully insured for $293/yr premium.. they don't care about modifications, they recognise enthusiasts and know the difference from street racing hoons.

Might as well have third party only then. No way any insurance company is going to replace BBS wheels if they aren't listed.

With AMI for both cars... I was with CLIC once, they were good with modifications.

I had a completely stock standard car with them, and they mailed me a massive information pack with most of it for modifications.

The Fagna had none. AMI wouldn't insure me because it's a 2.6L... But they don't care about my 2.5L E34 touring which would have a good 70 more horsepower.

Vero are a bit more lenient with car mods

I've been ringing around and Clic (AMI) seems to be the best option for me.

Was previously with NAC and only claimed a windscreen which they charge a 150 excess on, other than that can't say they were good or bad. Just slightly more expensive than Clic.

With NAC too, well my race car is because State didn't like the idea of a roll cage being fitted, they have been quite good to deal with, a bit more expensive than state but very very relaxed and didn't give a sh*t about anything I told them when they were asking questions on my application, lots and lots of mods, very bad driving history, other convictions, no problems.. I'm quite sure I could have told them I was P dealer with no licence who cleans carpets on the side and they would have still given me insurance.

I called up and said there was a chip in my windscreen and said I wanted it fixed, they said they cant do that and its $150.00 excess... so I told her that if I leave it may grow into a crack like I saw on a TV add and then when it needs a new one I will have to make a claim and then pay the $150 excess on a brand new $1,800 windscreen. Surely its more economical for them to pay the $50 repair?

Either way they have been good. Still have state look after everything else.

I have just been involved in a major accident so we shall see how they perform.

I was with state with most my cars, only refused my wrx and more recently my 328i because I had modified it too much so now with nac. My premium is about 900 which was abit more than state and a slightly higher excess too. Good sides are the cars price is an agreed value where as state devalued mine 4g in 2 years and yes a 150 excess on windscreen but get free roadside assistance and 3rd party on any ones elses car which I though wasn't bad.

I'd rather excess free glass than silly roadside rescue lol

The insurance covering you whilst you drive any other car is a real bonus with NAC I found. No longer need to check if your friends insurance covers you before you take their car for a hoon! :D

Except I'm back with state now cos my car's value is too low for NAC to insure it.
