Etwenty1 45 Report post Posted May 18, 2012 I found these two diamond schwartz e30's slowly rotting away, and decided to intervene. This is them after a wash, de-weeding and 50 cockroaches had escaped. 1 is a pfl 323i manual, the other a pfl 320i auto Now wondering what the go is with re-compliance and suspension? the coupe has been dropped and is on some "interesting" chromes and stretched tyres. The 4 door is at a good height on some 15's that should clean up ok. The plan is to get the coupe re-reg using parts from both. For re-compliance will the suspension need to be back to original or just legal? Anyone interested in those lovely chromes feel free to make an offer...... Michael. 2313 Report post Posted May 18, 2012 Hmmm don't over capitalize on them! Perhaps turn one into a better one, and scrap the other. That is what I would do.
Ahmedsinc 414 Report post Posted May 18, 2012 Hmmm, the coupe holds rat rod potential Would think suspension would need to return to legal limits as opposed to standard to regain cert
Driftit 2078 Report post Posted May 19, 2012 Unless they are mint inside and out then I would not bother trying to recomply them. Should get your money back and some more wrecking them.

Etwenty1 45 Report post Posted May 19, 2012 Hmmm don't over capitalize on them! Perhaps turn one into a better one, and scrap the other. That is what I would do. That is the plan. .. so today i tried to start both cars, to see if i could warm them up for a compression test. The coupe has had the ignition shanked and will require the wiring cluster? replaced. The white bit where the wires all meet with the hole in the centre. Someone had gone to town in that hole with a scewdriver. Hotwire instructions anyone? The chrome on the wheels (they are 17's) is peeling badly on the back surfaces as per the pic. One tyre is shredded and the other 3 are Dunop Direzza's, 205/40/17's, with good tread. The chrome on the faces and lips is good but they would need to be refinished.

CSET 580 Report post Posted May 21, 2012 no, prev owner decided to tow it 10k with a flat...... Honest opinion? Throw them both in the bin and save for a good e30. You could invest your time creating a good one from the best parts of each, but at what cost? How much is your time worth?

Currently harvesting suspension parts to get 318i wof'd and lowered. Found the 4 door has 15x7 rims. They look like a genuine e30 wheels complete with centre emblems. Not quite my cup of tea so will post pics and price soon. tyres are 195/60/15's on front and 205/60/15's on rear, but 2 have cracking on the side walls from sitting half flat. Shady 0 Report post Posted May 21, 2012 I dont know why so many are think its a waste of time? Arent most E30'ers going on about how too many are being left to rot or getting scrapped etc? Well this man right here has saved at least 1. They may bet 318s which arent too popular but the manual one would be valuble to some degree. As long as the one you pick to restore hasnt started rusting badly then I see nothing wrong with tiding it up & making some $ off her.
huff3r 347 Report post Posted May 21, 2012 I can't believe this, but I agree with Shady! An E30 is always worth saving, who cares if he could buy a nicer one for cheaper/with less work, it's a shedload more fun to actually fix the thing up, so you can say "I did this" than to just buy a nice one that is someone else's work. Besides i hate the crap on TV and too old to go to the pub every night. Its amazing what you can get done between 7 and 11 when you don't watch TV. BTW the manual is a 323i and the other is a 320i. The 318 is another story. ....pissed me off i put some gas in the 320 to move it thinking no way is this going to start and it fired right up, smooth as. That's after 2 years sitting with a dry tank........
