thorburn 121 Report post Posted August 15, 2012 getrag 250 or zf from a 328 or m3. You could use a 240 or 260 but they'll need a bit more modification Might be cheaper to sell and buy a manual one. Not sure if the computers need to be reflashed for a manual conversion

arros 0 Report post Posted August 15, 2012 Typical stupid comment we see on forums these days.Maybe not so stupid. In line with what Thorburn- cheaper to sell and find a manual. Conversion ain't cheepI'd say why bother on on 525 : average performance gain- Do a conversion on a 530 (no so much) or 540 (better) A 2002 is a nice late E39. Presumably in good condition and lowish km- I can understand the want to do a conversion but. Conversion question comes up regularly here- just search. Then prepared your pocket... Typical stupid comment we see on forums these days. It's easy to sit back and say things like "Typical stupid comment we see on forums these days." but it's a two way street - if you're not going to post quality content, you're part of the problem. jjs 64 Report post Posted August 15, 2012 Typical stupid comment we see on forums these days. I don't think its that stupid: 1. A 525i is a large car with average performance and more suited to an automatic transmission 2. The cost would be prohibitive 3. If you want to feel you are driving a performance car, buy a manual 330i, M3 or similar

Your response above should have been your original, it at least quantifies your opinion, but still doesn't answer the question. Rule of thumb before being a douche on a internet forum: Have I addressed / answered the OP's question? and/or have I substantiated my opinion? No to either, don't bother posting and wasting the server space. To the OP, have a look on Realoem.com and find what the OEM manual gearbox option was. Alternatively, as Thorburn wrote, there are a few others that will 'bolt-on' but may not be the best idea. ps. Yes I am having a shitty day
FIAT 131R 223 Report post Posted August 16, 2012 Yes Mummy but I do get sick of people asking about things they want to achieve and some stupid dickhead rubbishing their wishes.

Tristan 338 Report post Posted September 25, 2012 Was looking to do this to my 530 but cost was prohibitive, 2/3 value of car ... IIRC there was a thread around from awhile ago that documented a DIY conversion costing upwards of $5K. I can remember asking HellBM what I was looking at regarding price and it was substantially more.

NZ BMW 368 Report post Posted September 26, 2012 I'd rather retrofit the paddle shift for that kind of money, some of the guys on the US forums have done it. But I guess the purists would say that's not a "proper" manual gearbox.
