APT 195 Report post Posted January 2, 2014 How do these DOHC swaps compare to M20's? Night and day??
e30ftw 410 Report post Posted January 2, 2014 Haven't driven this one yet, need to get the exhaust manifolds welded up. But yeah the last one I did with the m50b25 hauled. More power across the rev range unlike m20's which get their kick in above 4000rpm. Got it running yesterday, started first pop. They are pretty straight forward bolt in swaps if you get all the right parts.
e30ftw 410 Report post Posted February 2, 2014 (edited) First clean in a long while, Just got some new VANOS seals going to give the vanos unit a rebuild. And still waiting for some Loom covers, rear trunk gasket and trunk struts to arrive from Schmiedmann. Bought over 2 months and only just shipped so hopefully not too far away.. Quick Duck tape tape job of the wiring loom to the strut brace for the mean time.. The front also sits almost half an inch to an inch higher than it did with m20. Overall alot lighter in the front, So might have to sort that out at some stage. Edited February 2, 2014 by e30ftw

ando 2 Report post Posted February 4, 2014 youll need all that touring space to fit all the car hoes in now mate! Na they won't be allowed in because they will wear out the recaros. Maybe he will allow them in the boot.
polley 916 Report post Posted February 4, 2014 Looks very good. Needs a turbo
e30ftw 410 Report post Posted February 4, 2014 Haha, This swap gave me enough headaches though was easy enough. Don't think an m52 is well suited for a turbo like an m50

e30ftw 410 Report post Posted October 5, 2014 Been a while since this was updated, So where it's at currently - Rebuilt VANOS, Biggest difference once that was done - US M3 S52 Cams - Sounds sweet full throttle! - Exhaust re-done in 2.5" with Magnaflow rear box, to complement the M50 mani / S52 cams. It's either gotten slightly quieter or I've gotten used to it, as at first it was alot louder than what I had but I think it's dam near perfect now. - E90 front drop hats, Since the M52 swap lifted the front a bit this has put it back down a tad. - Installed my loom covers I had lying around, tidy up the engine bay and wiring alot. Also experimented with some plasti-dipping this week for something a little different. Always wanted blacked out weaves so wanted to see how it would look like. Anyway some shite phone pics...
