Carby gurus

Recommended Posts

Have an issue with the old N12 Pulsar. It's pathetically gutless to say the least but whenst under full acceleration it misfires like a rev limiter almost, if you back off at the same rpm a little the misfire stops allowing the car to accelerate.

So far I've replaced the:

- spark plugs

- air filter

- oil filter

- fuel filter

Also running 95 Ron petrol. I'm guessing it's starving for fuel at this stage but any thoughts would be appreciated :)

my first guess would be your spark is dropping out at higher loads. Just another option

Not sure it's over fuelling as it isn't giving any signs of fumes from the rear. It's almost as if it's starving. Might be time to whip the carb off and check float levels and a good old clean. It's been sitting for about 4 years so there could be all kinds of sh*t in there.

Yea I'd say the secondary jet is blocked. My ute was doing the opposite a few months ago as main jet was partially blocked so would piss around when on part throttle but full was fine. Can Show you the "Maori" way to clean it out haha

blocking the carb throat with a rag whilst the engine is running, and before it dies pull the rag away and open it up. rinse and repeat? Apparently it helps suck crap through the jets, unblocking them.

The fuel will have softened the deposits left in the float chamber this will have been sucked through the jets and passages coursing a restriction or blockage as mentioned Suggest you strip the carby down and clean it out carefully replace the gaskets , "O" rings, needle and seat as necessary, reset the float level, check the base plate is not warped then reassemble and try. What condition is the fuel deliver system, like you did mention replacing the fuel filter because if the tank has water or rubbish in it the filter won't last long. Some meths poured into the fuel tank can help the water problem, temporary solution any other rubbish might require a tank removal and clean out.
