95 E38 740i refresh log

Keep the 740 and preserve it as your faithful servant. Take one facelift e38 with no prior relationship and begin your corruption.... S62 is cool for e38 number 5 and then it is time for e38 number 6 with screaming v10........

So I had this in and then out of e 750i.

The display in the 740i has worked on and off for some time. Mostly off recently so I thought this would be a good option till I got a replacement.

Now it's in there I really like it.. ha ha. Go figure. Maybe because the 740i has Black upholstery it suits it more.

Latest project for the 740i is 750il disks and calipers. Turns out the disk that came with them aren't within spec so are no good for re surfacing and I'll have to buy new ones.

In the mean time I've been painting the calipers. Decided to go with the same color as the car. Navarraviolet.

Hard to get a good pic without them looking brown.

Heat resistant paint?

The guy at the paint shop who mixed it reckoned it should hold up ok. I guess we'll find out..lol. If not then it's only a couple of bolts to get them off again and repaint them a more generic color.

Thought I was going to have to replace the high pressure power steer line so I took a good one out of the 730i and then put the 740i up on the jack stands. Turns out it was a loose hose clamp. I got 2 turns out of it. Nice n tight now so fingers crossed no more leak.

After the stone chip that cracked the windscreen last week I took it in for a replacement today.

old.

One of those little jobs that bugs you but get's put in the "when I get a round to it" category.

The top adjustment of the passenger seat has never worked and cause I never sit in it the only reason it's ever bothered me is that is never matched the positioning of the drivers seat. Pedantic?

Anyway, I pulled the passenger seat from the parts car today to get at the seat belt buckle and tensioner in an effort to fix the SRS issues on the 750i. Got fed up with that job and didn't really feel like pulling another seat out of the 750i today so I decided I'd finally get around to fixing the passenger seat in the 740i(5 years later).

In the end it only took about a hour.

Old motor out.

New motor in and all is working as it should.

I had the part sitting there so thought I may as well put it in. The car may potentially have a new owner tomorrow so I wanted to get that done before it was gone.

He's from Lithuania and his English was very broken. I had to help him fill out the change of ownership. I did write down the forum address and gave it to him but he didn't seem too interested. We'll see.

To those in Auckland, keep an eye out and you may see it around.
