Azukamii 86 Report post Posted February 6, 2019 Day 214: To celebrate the successful de-cheesening, and make most of Waitangi Day, I decided to finally address the lack of aux input for the BMW Business stereo. I had discovered a few days prior that the head unit was off an 02 spec M3, which meant that despite having the correct port at the back for aux, along with the correct firmware, it simply wasn't compatible. After a very successful visit to @HELLBM, it was finally time to leave the 1990s behind and ditch the cassette tapes! I don't like messy installs, and a major gripe i have with aftermarket units is the aux cable can quite often become a tangled mess around the shifter stick. So i decided to wire the connection beneath the steering column and into the little compartment at the right of the steering wheel. This also would double as an anti-check phone device, because I'll admit to being guilty of checking ol' google maps from time to time. Initial tear-down to figure out where I want the cabling to go: Aux cable plugged into the back of the stereo: One can never have too many cable ties! Aux cable fed through, trim re-assembled and of course, the obligatory "phone plugged in and ready to entertain!" photo I've left enough length to be able to comfortably pull out the phone and change music, but not long enough to text/ check bimmersport forums Of course, the massive negative would be the lack of usability for the passenger, but given this is a car that's seldom taken out, and when it is, is usually just me, i don't think it's going to be that much of an issue. Only modification I had to do was drill a small hole at the back of the tray to fit the aux cable through.
Olaf 3317 Report post Posted February 6, 2019 congrats! looks good and particular congrats for the de-cheesening. ? ??? are you sure you should be ditching cassettes, just as they're coming back in? https://www.popularmechanics.com/technology/audio/a24848370/cassette-tapes-national-audio-company/ https://www.grammy.com/grammys/news/record-store-day-2018-inside-comeback-cassette-tapes https://www.loudersound.com/features/forget-the-vinyl-revival-the-cassette-tape-revival-is-in-full-flow hint for the cable ties: trim close to, and parallel with, the end. angle cuts create a sharp hazard for next time you're in the confines of your dash, provide great opportunity for bloody battle scars. Will keep the cassette unit for times I want to be hip and retro! Now to dig up my "Lion King Returns" soundtrack... I think the cable ties are cut relatively straight, but yes, I will keep that in mind when next behind there. Admittedly a few trim clips were damaged in the process, so will order some of those along with a rubber grommet just to tidy up the little hole I made! Azukamii 86 Report post Posted May 12, 2019 Day 310: Call it strange, but I find it oddly satisfying to count the days I've owned this European brute! Few updates from the last post. 150000ks. I guess you can say my car is officially worthless. Attended the dyno day hosted by @HELLBM at Torque Performance. Managed to score 193.1 kw. I've been told its a commendable number for stock, but still. MORE POWER NEEDED. received_409503496297051.mp4 Lastly, picked up a set of Style 219's over the weekend. The scuffing is pretty minor, but its enough to irk me, so currently getting some quotes back for repair/ repaint. I did briefly juggle the idea of painting them black, to match the rest of the car, but after a second look (and external opinions) I think keeping them the OE colour is best. From looking online it appears the OE colour is "Ferric Grey", though there are comments that Space Grey might also be an option.
qube 3570 Report post Posted May 12, 2019 good choice on the wheels. did you get them from jervis? they are a rare style that comes on some e9x m3's and slightly different to the more common style 260. ferric grey is the right name and i think looks better than black!

Azukamii 86 Report post Posted June 14, 2019 Day 343: With the tyres removed, and the faces repainted, we're on the final stretch for getting these sexy circle-bois on the M3! Dropped off to Christian at OCD to get them ceramic coated, then I believe another few weeks to let it cure and they'll be ready for the rubber to be put on and slapped onto the car! The guys at Wheel Fix It really did nail the paint code, the cost for them to be repainted was just shy of $600. They advised the wheels to sit for a couple weeks to let the paint settle, before going about the next steps. Oooooohhhh we're on the final stretch now! 1

Azukamii 86 Report post Posted June 27, 2019 Day 355: One month later, they're finally on the car! They look even better than I originally thought. Stellar! Massive thank you to the guys at wheelfixit, and OCD for making these wheels look a million bucks! I'm kinda thinking about getting some Ti bolts thrown on to finish the look. Still deciding though as the opinion on them seem rather mixed. the OE wheels will be retired for now. Might make a good set of track wheels in the future!

qube 3570 Report post Posted June 27, 2019 (edited) This looks absolutely fantastic, quite a bit different to the other (very similar) set that christian has (and the one ray has just posted above). Good call on the ferric grey. makes it looks much better and more detailed than black. edit: HOLD ON WHAT IS GOING ON WITH THE BLING BLING CENTRE CAPS???? Azukamii 86 Report post Posted June 28, 2019 (edited) @qube well spotted! they were on the OE wheels, I thought they looked cool so put them on the new wheels. The std centre caps live in a drawer now Fun fact: they weigh 2g more than the standard ones, but street rep makes up for the extra baby fat! MISS BM 712 Report post Posted July 8, 2019 Looking super clean. Love it. Nice to see something other than the VSXX's doing the rounds in shoe selection. Beautiful example. Now don't get rid of it! You'll just regret it ?
Azukamii 86 Report post Posted July 8, 2019 Thanks @MISS BM! Are you still riding? perhaps just not looking at the right times but seems you've tapered off! Thankfully (or not? ) the sole reason I'd rid myself of the M3 is still a few years away! Hopefully by then I'll have a live-in-warehouse for all of the things! But weather + crazy work hours has seen a bit of a reduction during these darker/colder months. Have managed 1,500kms since Jan (that's got to count for something right?!) I'm good friends with the guy who owns my ex so I'm always eyeing it up for a potential buy-back once I hit mid-life crisis age ?
