GorGasm 563 Report post Posted August 14, 2019 (edited) Heh, cam chain at the back worked out real well for Audi. Issues I saw for aftermarket: Integrated intercooler/manifold. Integrated exhaust manifold. It's a great piece of packaging design, but I think that may limit potential for serious modification. M3AN 4016 Report post Posted August 15, 2019 I enjoyed that, seemingly lots of potential. I also wondered about the intercooler, that's a serious compromise. Replacing the whole manifold is a solution sure but it'll be a crazy expensive conversion. I'm not sure that was best practice on cam removal. ? dirtydoogle 383 Report post Posted August 15, 2019 Will be interesting to see how they fare with higher hp. You can make some rather fruity hp on a 2JZ with some money spent on ARP bits. I'm not even a fan but have to admit the 2jz is a good engine which has stood the test of time (a long time). I don't think there's any need to make it an us v them situation? Herbmiester 925 Report post Posted August 15, 2019 In really big HP applications its the 2JZ block that is the weakness bit in mid power 5-600 HP applications its strong. I suspect that B58 block is strong looking at the design but it is alloy not cast Iron and that may be the limiting feature. Saw some block testing done by an Aussie engine builder and the Ford Barra block was a s good if not better than the RB and 2jZ blocks. Quote Share this post Link to post Share on other sites
