Appears to have all of the usual 25 year old BMW wear and tear items, including the sagging headliner, split door seal, worn steering wheel and gear knob. Dayton tyres on a special car like this are always sign of how its been taken care of. ssbmw 220 Report post Posted November 9 (edited) It’s a June 2000 production car that has been owned by a member of the NZ E39 M5 Facebook group’s father. It’s actually Oxford green 2, and is a pre LCI car ( a fair chunk of NZ cars were pre LCI) so has the older steering wheel and sat nav screen. 1/4 in Oxford in NZ ( known of) and the other 3 have caramel leather. The asking price is kind of commensurate of dealership prices in recent times. I think we can all remember how a cheap one a few years was around low $20’s and a minter was $40-$45. Pretty disgusting state of affairs when dealers are asking $20+k above market value without even wanting to spend a few hundred on a new shift knob or getting the steering wheel, leather seats properly treated. Close to zero effort and investment yet are asking a premium. Probably looked at that blue one listed at $90k and figured this one is a bargain at 60, not realizing the first one is horrifically overpriced by 2x. Pretty sure there have been much better examples listed for less very much recently. These are completely different beasts/buyers. Especially because you can't get an E60 with a manual transmission. ssbmw 220 Report post Posted November 9 Agreed the car has not been presented properly. Even the photos are a shambles versus the ones taken of the Lemans blue example in Christchurch. However, agreed, don’t think you can compare the selling price versus E60. Having owned a E39 M5 for 6 1/2 years, they are not that expensive to run versus an E60 M5 that comes unstuck. Vass 830 Report post Posted November 9 Don't get me wrong, I'm not a big fan of E60's and given a straight choice I'll take the E39 any day of the week, but at that price point... I know it's a silly comparison but the reason I mention an E60 (and not an F10 that are also available at around the $40k mark) is that there's a much wider choice of V8's out there, both older and modern, whilst an NA V10 is much more of a unique proposition and likely one of the last mass-market ones ever made. If I had to spend $60k on a super sedan I'd take the best E60 out there at $40k and have $20k left over in a maintenance fund, or hell... throw it at a manual conversion before I spend it all on a lazily presented E39. 2 Quote Share this post Link to post Share on other sites

With the limited supply of E39 M5s in NZ, manual gearbox, more stout mechanicals and (in my eyes at least) more timeless design all being contributing factors. If this car was for sale privately I’d think a price around the $45-50k range would be realistic. If this car was tidied up and well represented then $60k might be achievable. dedoo7 2 Report post Posted November 10 Sunday Drives stock is all on consignment however the way they car is presented is pretty sub par in my view . That car appears to be very well used and abused . A few grand in the right areas, it would and should command the asking . I have an E39 M5 and is always in tip top ready to go condition and I mean it’s mint . I’ve seen beautiful examples change hands onto that ‘one bad owner’ and it changes everything hence why I’m always reluctant to let mine go , besides there’s nothing worthy of its replacement . ssbmw 220 Report post Posted November 10 (edited) To be fair, I believe that car in Christchurch would be worth 90k all day if it wasn’t for its history. It’s a late model, LCI in a lovely color combination. Mileage is moderate. I believe that the E39 M5 with the lowest mileage that we know of in NZ sold for around the $100 mark privately in the last year. A nice example. However, there is another special example lurking in NZ - in pristine, Lemans Blue. Equipped with a few very special mods, this car is off the market but the owner deems it to be a $110-$120k car. One might question that, but try getting another LCI, fully spec’d vehicle in the right colour - and of this incredible level of presentation. They just didn’t have that many in NZ. It’s pretty expensive to import one from the UK these days too. These cars are addictive- so many ‘car guys’ have one - they may not be new anymore- but they look and go great - an all time classic from BMW. Think I will be importing mine from the US one day!
