Love this car. Prob my favourite m3. Only thing that would make it better is if it was Phoenix yellow ;-)

Have had a good look at the car now - though not managed to scan it - and have a list of maintenance things to get done... Some more urgent than others: Power steering box appears to have a leak - will clean up and check... If it does it'll probably need doing before warrant time. Gasket set's about $65 online, not sure how hard it is to do yet. Diff is leaking - looks a slow leak so might put this on hold until I can afford to fit LSD - gasket set's around $100. Trans mounts have perished - $25 for some new ones... Already ordered, doesn't look to big a job to replace but a pain without a hoist. Rear tyre has a crack in the sidewall - they're cheap and too small so going to replace anyway. Budget may mean I have to go midrange for now but will get the best I can afford (and the right size) Car is running rich - will clean up the MAFs and do a smoke test (there's definitely a vac leak or two) and check the AFR at the next dyno day before worrying too much. It's not a daily so I won't lose any sleep burning a bit of fossil fuel. Did ask Gavin at Euro Italian about a couple of new MAFs.... $1450 each! Cripes - I can buy a lot of $45 knock offs for that! Good news is suspension all seems good and compression tests were good on all 12 cylinders. I've picked up some ATF and fresh oil so will do some changes when the new oil and air filters turn up. Also got an online valuation from Redbook.co.nz - pretty happy that on the present mileage in good condition the car's valued at $18.5K.... So it was a bit of a steal.

Those tyre sizes are probably going to be too big, not sure whether it's worth it to take them off and sell them + buy new tyres. Will give it some thought and PM you if I'm keen. Cheers

some lag. but if you calculate the actual volume involved, and then compare it to the amount of air moved by spooling turbo, you can pretty quickly see what the turbocharger is moving far more volume than you think and puts the charge piping volume in perspective. people do all sorts of things to decrease the charge piping length, but there are better places to put your time and money. also with a 5-6L v12 engine, you are moving a lot of exhaust gas energy.

Deal done. Car now in my hands and looking forward to connecting up with likeminds here. The car has been owned by one person for 95% of its life so nice to find a relatively low mileage car that hasn't been thrashed. Needs a top to toe clean though.......

Not really... I was watching an M5 on eBay.co.uk that sold at auction for GBP3700. I received quotes to import an E31 of greater value that were NZ$3500 including insurances and agents' fees but not tax. So $10.9K + GST. $12.5K, so not far off.

I walked out of McDonalds the other day. I was in mid order and turned to look out the window to see someone pull up beside my E38. Heaps of parks around and this woman pulls in right beside me. So while I'm ordering I've got an eye on what she's up to. Bit-h gets out of her car and dumps her handbag, keys and cellphone on the roof of my car while she's getting her kids sorted. F--k me!!!!!!! So I storm out there and I'm yelling as I walk out the door.."Hey, my cars not a f*#king shelf for your crap, get it off my car". She looks at me like I'm crazy..lol Then has the nerve to tell me she'll "only be a minute so whats my problem"? FFS I manage to get control of my growing temper and explain that the car is "my pride and joy and I dont really want it scatched, sorry for yelling but pls remove your stuff". Her reply sent my temper over the top. "Its only a car, get over it". So I reach out and grabed her keys and cell phone and sent them flying about 30ft into the bush's on the other side of the fence. Last I heard from her was she was going to call the police.. Dunno if she did or not. I got in my car and drove through the drive thru to get my order and gave her a nice wave and smile as I drove out. She was still in the bush's with her kids looking for her keys and cell..

Had a go cleaning my wheel tonight Before: During: After: Great success. Lux Soap Flakes + Mothers Leathertech. Left over shinyness is a light layer of conditioner that'll for the most part soak in overnight. I'll give it another buff tomorrow so it comes up as a nice matte sheen, same as the seats.

Maybe you can fit a 318i auto diff for the better acceleration ratio The whine from the poor thing will sound like a supercharger.

I had this after removing the light module in the boot of my touring on Monday, my headlights would dim then brighten up. I fixed this by disconnecting the battery, then right beside the battery is the black light controle module, which i reconnected but noticed there was quite a bit of dust and metal shards clinging onto it. Maybe disconnect the battery, diconnect the module and give it a good blow out and reconnect module then battery. Your other option may be to have a look at the grounding point to the left of the spare tyre (normally directly under the rear left tail light) this might need to be tightened too..

when i had the car i thought it was the ICV and it was also the easiest option then it still persisted and i cleaned the throttle body and adjusted the throttle position sensor-if the issues come back id replace it ith a new sensor as its a quite a bit of work to get to it properly, theres two switches in it the idle and full throttle switch...from memory the idle one was intermitant but full throttle one was good...will need to be replaced bud
