Or people could stop moaning and get on with it... Seriously, All it takes is a bit of willing intent to mod a car. The biggest problem I see (and I have done it many times before myself) is peoples eyes are bigger than their stomach so to speak. Bite off only what you can chew, be very happy with what you have, even if its not the fastest, best looking vehicle around.. who cares ? just enjoy getting into it. When I joined bimmersport I was pretty much the biggest noob when it came to modding cars, but I learnt by doing things and making mistakes. Most of my success in modding came from careful research into what I wanted to do. Am I some guru, no ... just a dude who likes to approach things practically. This weekend, Westy decided that hes gonna try and give it a crack at the wiring thing for his e30 / v8. He got the whole thing started, despite some pretty interesting hurdles to get over. A bit of determination is all that was needed and some research. One thing cars have taught me is how to understand engineering and problem solving from a pratical point of view. Instead of problem solving in a computer. This is why I love it.

Next project (well, one of many on the go) is the CSi kit. Test fitted the rear diffuser last night and that's going to be fine with a bit of sanding, etc. I've picked up a cheap genuine front spoiler which just needs some minor repairs and a repaint. Once painted and fitted the car should go from this: To this: The mirrors will be a bit harder work. I have a set of cheap E36 M3 mirrors and some of Thomas Engl's adapter plates. His plates are cast metal of the original E31 plate, so I'll need to hollow out the adapter so I can fit the plates (the bits with screws in them) from the E36 mirrors that hold that the actual mirror clips into. Haven't sussed out how I'll fix them yet... Could tap for screws but wonder whether some small bolts might work better. Engl's ones are unfinished too so will need a fair bit of sanding... Will still work out way cheaper than a set of OE ones.

Rotors almost never warp. Usually the shudder is caused by pad material being left behind in one spot from hot pads stopping in one spot. I use cheap rotors from exedy on my track car at $30 a pop. Absolutly no issues and they literally glow. Just priced some 330ci rotors from them for my old man which were roughly 70 each. Go oem with pads but paying 10x more for their rotor is stupid.

From the messages on here it sounds like it was a success despite the best efforts of the weather - which is great news. Well done Fearghus on pulling it all together. Plans for next year would be awesome, although I think you will find that the availability of the track is pretty scarce in the summer months - gets a bit busy with other meetings when the sun is supposed to be out. Anythings worth a try though.

Reviving this as I'm finally about to get the wheels done and, unfortunately (for me), Darin has just sold the Breytons he had offered to loan me. My fault for dawdling but now I need some wheels... Or an extra pair of stands (Martin!). Box of beers and a promise of extreme care in it for the lucky donor.

Yeah, still great fun though but grip was definitely in issue. I definitely had a few traction issues in corner one and the long sweeper to keep me on my toes. This muppet did not do so well... After spinning twice in the warm up laps behind the pace car he opted to head out with the race cars instead of the other 8s (lucky for us 8ers, I reckon!) and promptly crashed into the tire wall. Classic example of underestimating the car and overestimating his ability. New parts car likely to be for sale soon with full csi kit!!

A few pics from today... What a great event!! Pity about the rain but it made the track time a bit more interesting (especially for the egg who span his 850 twice during the familiarisation laps then took it out with the race cars and promptly crashed... Waste of a decent 850, but at least there'll be a csi kit up for grabs when it gets written off and parted out!). There were twelve 8s but only 10 made the grid after one of the CSIs burst an AHK seal in the wet and the 850 hit the wall. Apologies... I missed most of the non-8 cars of which there were plenty!!
