I bought this car on Trade-me recently as a $1 auction and scored it for under $20k. It had been neglected for a couple of years and as I'm a clean freek I thought I would share some photos of progress. I have had tints done by Follies, nice job. Also oil and filters done, glow plugs weren't working so that's now fixed. This thing (330d) goes like a rat up a drain pipe and is real fun to drive. I made a start under guards and as E90 discs seem to rust, I repainted them while the wheels were off. Probably a bit of a waste of time but I get a buzz making it look all new again.

Love the car and as much as its a bit cheesy these days you have to respect the amount of effort that goes into these for videotainment value

Car is awesome, but I found the whole video a little meh. Maybe he was wow'd me too much so now anything just seems average.

Love 'em on the E38 and they have a very similar spoke pattern to my RSIIs which looked perfect on my E39 but just doesn't look right to me on the 8. I think the concave dish wheels really suit cars with a flared arch (think E46 M3 CSL!) which the E38 and E39 have, but the E31 doesn't have flares so it suits a thick-lipped dish. Doesn't get much better than this:

Risers for ltw wing showed up today from Abraham Motorsport. very disappointed. Holes wrong size, didn't line up, where the dowels go into them them poke out the other side so need to pack bolts out so they actually have something to hold to, doesnt match up properly with edges of top and bottom wing. DO NOT RECOMMEND!!! Waste of about $250. Will get some photos tomorrow of it

Got a WoF on the $321 car. Almost a cleansheet, just some wheels need re-arranging (205s on one side, 195s on the other haha ooops didn't notice that!)

Lowered my non-BMW down by adjusting the height control rods. Back actually sits a touch lower than that, except I reversed in the park which tends to lift the rear etc.

installed the new Avin All-in-One head unit. Wired it up through the SMG steering wheel, iBus and the cars ECU system for on screen diagnostics and minor tweaks. Also got a Vodafone 3G SIM card installed for internet access and installed the latest NZ GPS maps. This also integrates into the PDC with reverse camera. Spent the last week and a bit getting the rear window and pillar frames bent and welded in, which has been approved by the cert guys (pretty happy about that). But getting the perfect cut for the window panel was a mission on its own. Deleted the rear door handles too, so will soft grind the welds back this week and start smoothening out the sides to have the factory flow from front to rear. Managed to cut out all remaining panels so I can begin to get these welded in. Have also completed all the cars wiring relocation and tailgate connections. Only error being thrown up now is the airbag light which I will get taken car of when car is put back together.

I think it was me who told you that Jules. The banana was a couple of cars in front of me. He got caught up in that little stream of water across the exit of the sweeper. Tried to hold the drift but the car kept rotating past the point of no return and he did (what looked like) a very slow and graceful slide off the right hand side of the track. It kicked a little to the left again and he put his front right quarter into the tyres. I think if he'd turned into the skid instead of trying to drift it, he would've been okay. Most cars (without traction control!) were barely doing 90 km/hr around the sweeper, and he wasn't any faster than the rest. All in all, an excellent event and I'm looking forward to the next one! Don't care if it's raining like that again... you learn a lot about your driving in those conditions. James :-)

Thanks Tristan... Still a few major headaches but she's getting there and went well on the track last weekend. Despite brakes and suspension that need some work! Can't wait til she's handling properly once more.

The good old days aye bro. I used to spend every Friday and Saturday at the "drags" was fun. I think technology is a huge distraction, we didn't even have cell phones back then, nothing was organised and the excitement was finding the pack and getting amongst it... you couldn't simply keep track online or txt your mates. Was exciting. The modern technology the Police have makes it harder, CCTV etch, your always being watched. I think general congestion and population / couture growth muddy's things a bit to. And cars are generally faster these days, back when I was a boy racer (still am really) cars with 300bhp were monsters, now days your mums mini van is packing that. Oh, and fuel was 80c a liter, that helped. 90% of modern BMW's are hardly inspiring, as someone said above, this doesn't help things.
