Made great progress today. Started at around 10am, by 1pm the engine, gearbox, driveshaft, diff and exhaust were out. By the end of the day I also removed the rear subframe, control arms and complete hubs. Almost got the steering box off but I gave up and went home before I got it fully off. Tomorrow the plan is to change out the rear subframe bushes and put it back in along with the e34 trailing arms, hubs and brakes plus do whatever else I can. At this rate I'm starting to think there is a possibility it will be going by next weekend. Big thanks to my friend Gancen who, depsite being sick, was up and onsite at 8am to give me a hand to pull the motor. What a champ. By the way, the eta motor, gearbox and diff are for sale for those interested.

I sent it to E Parrot and Sons in Christchurch. I had to buy the stepper motors myself and free issue them to their technicians. They did the whole job and replaced the lcd as well. All up $300. Sent from my SM-G925I using Tapatalk

Hi guys Thought I'd put it in a new one, save sifting through the other thread. I thought I had it sussed but appears not. In a nut shell, have been having issues with with the E39 540i, battery draining over 3-4 days of sitting. In a nut shell, have replaced battery, alternator is charging 100%, FSU is disconnected, all radio fuses and display, phone, stacker etc all disconnected, heater panel physically disconnected, after market amp, auxillary fan, alternator, interior lighting, seats, mirrors, window switches all currently are disconnected or have the fuses pulled. I have been through and pulled every single fuse 1 by one which made no difference. The car goes to sleep (the little park light goes out), but there is something that is drawing just over 900mA and I cant for the life of me figure out what it is. Does anyone have any other ideas?

It's a real kick in the nuts, but definitely give yourself a pat on the back for giving it your best shot. I'm sure you've learned alot through the whole ordeal which will prove invaluable on future projects.

"all TVRs should be registered as pre-production prototypes". Yes, something with a BMW V8 I reckon.

yeah, were expecting the same as we will be back to driving to work and dropping the little one at day care every morning. The economy is quite something else. Especially coming from the 540i.

its an oil burner ... 540i was traded for a New 2016 CX-5 2.2 diesel turbo (twin turbo) AWD. Handles very BMW like and out of all the SUVs it was the only one that felt not only like a car but a well sorted 3 series. So im very happy in that regard. Has 420nm of torque so throws you back in your seat quite nicely. The 6 speed auto has 80% lockup and shifts as fast as a DSG but without the dreaded DSG pump issues. Ooo and it rev matches on down shifts .. Did look at getting another bimmer and for the price I paid I could of got something pretty nice, but I couldn't quite stretch / stomach paying for a second hand x3 with less spec and 30-40000ks on the clock for the same money it cost to buy new , warrenty and free servicing is quite attractive. The e30 isnt going anywhere so havent walked off from BMW at all. Also working on lots of Rays projects to keep the buzz alive.

Of course...Why did I not check that first? will peep out tonight and see if i can see some light coming from the exhaust

Have you checked for rodents in the exhaust? Sometimes they nest there, might be tapping into the electrical system drawing some power for their lights..

I'd be inclined to agree, though sometimes strange stuff happens. Really feel for ya dude!

What about a full roof skin from a slick-top wreck?

Absolute bummer Nathan. I would certainly throw my toys if that happened. So bloody frustrating after all your time, money & patience.

A good one doesn't have a project list, ever. It's looked after and maintained, not repaired and restored.
