Finally got an 04 545i, wish me luck. Haven't even laid eyes on it yet as being delivered tomorrow. Looking forward to spending the long weekend getting used to it. Had an E39 523i two cars back and been hanging out for another Beemer but with some grunt since. Keen to keep an eye on here for tips, advice, parts, drives/runs and anything social.

Personally I like the stock look, but if money wasn't an object I'd get a Dynavin. Not sure on the price but there might be a second hand one out there somewhere?

The aerials and windscreen stuff are for automatic payment at toll roads in Japan. Usually there is other stuff behind the dash as they use a prepaid payment card in a card reader to pay for the tolls. I ripped all mine out and its much cleaner now. If you can afford it the dynavin is a very good unit.

I'm really stoked. My fuel consumption is down to 12.0l/100km and slowly dropping (more highway miles, higher average speed has helped) Most particularly, the LAMBDA light has extinguished and stayed gone. A new fuel filter and a solid Coolant Temp Sensor connection will undoubtedly have contributed to this, along with a good tankful of BP's finest 98. Usually it runs on Caltex 95 with some BP 98 from time to time. Happy Olaf

Recoding isnt "needed" as such, but when mine was converted it still had the Auto DME, and mine, like others, had a bad rev hang when changing gears. You get used to it, but i would recommend recoding. I wouldnt guarantee it. Mine had the jatco jerk and within a couple of thousand KM, including a trip fully loaded from CHCH to WGTN, the trans decided to give up and slip really badly and the jerk got to a point where i couldnt trust it to change gear crossing an intersection. Anyway, welcome to the club/forum, Charl. The E36 are great cars, and you will love it if/when you convert to manual, it completely transforms the car. Well worth the money.

Hi Mark It would be helpful if you let people know which part of NZ you'd prefer (or consider) to be located - otherwise most of us will probably assume the North Shore of Auckland All the best - and if you do come anywhere near Wellington, please bring some sunshine! Smithy
