I'm attending a week long ISO (International Standards Organisation) meeting in Hamilton. Its about IT Security. Quiet an eye opener on how much work goes into developing the standards that make the modern work wirk and protect our information. Getting to meet and network with people from all over the world who are experts on the different aspects. Rather than fly I decided it would be a great opportunity to given my E38 a run. I drove from Upper Hutt to Hamilton on Easter monday. 1st drive in a while so I had to get the AA to start it. Drove to Levin and stopped for petrol and bugger me it would not start again. AA to the rescue, a trip to Supercheap, $400 and a new battery got me on the road again. I'm driving home tomorrow evening so I'm hoping for a less eventful drive. Jim

on Friday, I took the e60 along with #1 son to BM World, and scored some 'bits' (door seals, rear seat double-lighter, and door switch trim). We had an excellent chin-wag with Brent too. Then we went for a tour through the country to Clevedon, following a mate in his CLK55. It's a good part of the world out there; if I was organising a roadie in Auckland I'd consider the Clevedon Hotel as a lunch stop on a good weather day.

Not so late that we've bought something! We're going to look at a house on Sunday. If we decide to buy, a 4wd car will be a sensible choice. As might something with a winch if we slip off the road leading to the drive...

I know there is some cross-over, but all the otherwise useless ones make me feel a bit 3pedals: it ought to bugger off and die, and stay in the past where it belongs Imperial units are worth 5/8ths of not much

Pulling your latest purchase to bits to find- Genuine BMW water pump. Plastic impeller. Bad. No coolant. Only water. Since at least 2014. Bad. Corrosion setting in between said water pump and block due to lack of antifreeze. Bad. Power steering fluid is brown. Bad. Brake fluid is milky. Bad. The toolkit was in with the spare wheel because otherwise the tired old struts won't hold the boot open. Sigh...

I wish! Was too busy, it has been sitting there sans cooling system and oil for about a week, untouched, now. But it looks nice even when it is in bits. Going to look on the bright side here- when it is going again, it's first trip will be to the dealer for a new steering wheel airbag. Nice to have someone else paying for new bits for a change! Thanks to @hqstu for mentioning my old car was included in the recall- I reasoned since they have the same steering wheel and nearly the same build month then the touring would also be included, and I was right.

so.... reluctantly I recently sold my M3!!! With the thought of the wife, parking her car in the garage & trying to take over..... I figured I needed to search for another project. I do miss selling my last E30 so looked for another one & found a rolling body with good bones.( plates were still live (on hold) and budget wise thought I could just build it back up as time/wife allows....(have a young son) its a 320i auto, with electric sunroof. As it is currently stripped of interior It has got me thinking whether I build it back to stock or a fun track car. not sure! happy to hear anyone's thoughts on which direction to go down? or If I built it back to stock would it be better for its value? its not a motorsport or anything at the end of the day! Plans are to drop a m52 2.8 in it & manual conversion, again budget wise temporarily will have to drop in a m20 b25.

productive long weekend, pulled my custom headers off the e36 and re-routed the pipe for cylinder 2 so it doesnt tap the steering shaft in left hand corners anymore, fitted the purple tag rack and new power steering hose and tie rods, fitted the leather rear side interior trims that have been lying around for a year or so, went to pick a part and got a complete wiring harness to move the battery to the boot, as well as some trims that need replacing, and re-attached the front number plate that fell off !!
