the car club entitles a modest discount at any BMW dealer. At the time Jeff Gray was very supportive of the club, which i feel we did not take full advantage of/Also at the time the mini club was quite active, and we could have got more involved with them.We held a few agms at the dealer and a couple of model launches as well as a tour of the dealership incl the workshop and facilities. The BMW car club is a valuable and supported group of BMW itself.

The best quality tools have the distinctive smell of burnt roses.... it must be the metal. I always go for those tools... I've never been let down and some I have are over 30 years old

Hi Team So i'm a new member myself and thought i'd kill two birds with one stone and introduce myself. Names Richard and i'm here to share my journey with my dream car build. Yes you read it right i am going to drop a v12 into the best shape ( my opinion ) bmw ever made. So i had purchased the v12 motor and auto box off trade me late 2015. Have also managed to find a rare 6 speed box that come out of the 850csi bmw that i had to get shipped from Britain. Treated myself to a nice New Zealand new 2000 manual 232i for my birthday earlier this year. Very nice looking with the factory 18inch mags and msport half leather seats and factory spoiler kit too. So here the build begins. over the 3day weekend i disassembled the engine to start cleaning parts for the rebuild. Had already took the heads off and sent to an engineering place to price up getting some custom cams and an ITB set up made. I also have a full new gasket set, head bolts and piston rings that will be replacing all the old stuff, a custom dry sump set up from the states as the oil pan had to be modified to fit the factory cross member. Here are a few picture of the motor in bits. feel free to pass on feed back or any advice team happy to share this build with you guys.

Hi Everyone, I'm a long time BMW enthusiast and have finally joined bimmersport. I currently have a 1974 NZ New 2002 and have owned a few BMW's in the past including an E46 ETCC 'factory' race car, an E21 323 and a few E36s. Plans for the 2002 are to leave it standard(ish) and slightly lower it on a set of BBS RS's I am currently re-building. Cheers, Shaun.

Mammoth task I know but I've always wondered how one of these V10's would go in the E38 chassis.

Member for a couple of years now also, pretty Auckland centric which isn't surprising but for $70 odd dollars a year I'm happy ticking along and getting to a couple of events where we can. the 100yr anniversary meet last year was probably the biggest for some time I heard which was cool to be involved in

You must use high quality torx sockets when working on european motor vehicles and keep away from impact guns

Hey Guys, Finally the old girl got out of the shed and had a fresh walk round the driveway and house. Got a few problems with the accelerator cable and in search of a new air filter for the Holley carburetor apart from that she is running well and got the finishing touches before she is off for a WoF and Rego Pretty close to the end of this build and looking forward to driving the BM around once the accelerator cable is fixed. Need some rear lowering springs too. Doesn't look quite right with the massive rake. A few photos below that turned out nicely.

haha no worries there GLENN i love a bit of banter myself. Michael it's a m73 model and agree they could do with a bit more power. Am hoping to get it looking and sounding similar to this guys one on youtube but love the sound of this v10 itb. would give my first born to get my v12 to sound like this

Confession time - I too am a former local BMW Club member (circa many years ago and pre-social media days). I was also a member of local chapter of the HSV Owners Club. What I found common to both clubs was that the success (or not) came down to a small few who would organise and attend events. This, I think, is also somewhat true with Bimmersport (in both 'active online members and organised local events). The 80/20 rule at play perhaps? The main difference between Bimmersport and the 'clubs' is you don't pay an annual fee, you don't get a monthly (Dixie) magazine, you don't get a NZ motorsport affiliation - this was a biggie for club members - but you do get a great community that has great knowledge and experience which members don't mind sharing . I was also tempted (still am actually) to sign up to the Central Holden Monaro Club. Spoke to the chairman at the Shannon car show earlier this year and felt a good vibe. And they had some pretty impressive Monaro's in the club!

I'd rather not say ZERO i'm a bit embarrassed as it was quite a lot, but here is an example of one on someones else motor. are you wanting one for the v8?
  16. 1 point
Nice work ZERO a v8 wouldn't be bad either in the e46. yup already spoke with Kayne Barrie hes the one suggested to just purchase a full m3 rear set up as i was looking into just modifying the factory one with a LSD. Hopfully the ratio won't be too bad as i will be using a manual 6 speed gearbox. The s6s 560g is what the v12's oringally came out with so managed to get my hands on one. So yes will be going manual as for front brakes i'll deal with that when i come to it as there are heaps of aftermarket options there. Hey Brent i don't think you saw the earlier post of me saying that i'm waiting for you to sell me the m3 rear end haha. Had this dissusion with you about the 330d rear end as i would end up spending more money trying to modify it to fit. Kayne said just save the money and get a m3 rear end as it's a straight bolt in and the diffs are built like brick houses. As for the sump set i have purchased a dry sump set up from Dailey Engineering awesome looking piece of work, don't have a picture but will put one up as soon as it's in my hands

What brand torx sockets do you use glenn?

Purple for the win! I pick it up on Friday so not sure how the hill is yet - will keep you in the loop (the dealer has to make a couple of minor fixes to it and Friday is the first day I am nearby to pick it up.). If you do go for a test drive in one, don't use the Jazz - it has a 1.3l engine. The Jazz RS and other models have the 1.5l engine. Oh, I know someone who just bought a Jazz RS. They are happy to give you a drive Tim

Yeah saw that it was on trade me again just a few weeks being purchased. I will have to give (mellowpuf) a message. So the current situation, is i was taking the pistons out and managed to get all the conrod bolts undone bar 1 which i rounded. Spoke to a mate and didn't know why i didn't think of this at the time but will grind the bloody thing off. Have ordered a new set of arp bolts. Once all parts are out will take the block to get acid dip cleaned and checked to see if it needs a resurface, plus had 3 small bolts snap on me where the water flows through. Must have rusted them in, hopefully the machine shop can help me out there too. Then reassemble time. Thanks for all the good feed back too team, feel free to ask if you want any specific pictures taken and i'll do my best.

I'd love to - though am pretty committed both days with this weekend's gym comp. let me know when and where, I'm keen to join you if I can. I'm likely to find a lunch break around 1 each day. agree on the deadlock of Bimmersport IP. Though as Barry notes, it's easy to log in and keep it flowing through the forum. Be good to have that discussion and get a view on benefits/disbenefits, and get a handle on the possibilities. cheers

I joined the BMW club some years ago, nothing really happened in the Wellington region, lot happens in Auckland, regular meet ups etc, I deal with a few clubs with my business, as in I invite them to my lock up, show the cars & demo Autoglym products, the Porsche Club is by far the most active, I would like to see a more active club here, with maybe a club discount at some local BMW specialists, also as I have suggested some sort of Business card or flyer we can leave on cars to attract more people The only good thing that I got from being a member was a club sticker for the car & they send out a club magazine With the way Bimmersport has been growing, do we really need to spend money to belong to the club?? just asking, also its very easy to just log onto the site & check in I have been on many committees over the years & without fail, there will be a core group of three to maybe six people who will run it We should have a coffee catch up & discussion

Update on the Motul transmission oil - when its cold its quite notchy, much more so than what ever was in there before. However once warmed up its fantastic. I decided to also change the diff oil and replace the bolts that can snap or sheer off, these are BMW replacement bolts but weren't an official recall. These connect the diff to the subframe. For the diff oil i went with a Motul 75w140 which meets factory specs, the only difference compared to the BMW oil is it doesn't have an friction modifier in it, BMW started add friction modifier after some owners complained about noisey grinding diffs when driving low speed tight circles. The diff now seems tighter, and a little more snappy, i.e. oversteer is induced more rapidly where as before it felt more progressive. Again the oil pump was the champion of the day.
