I see that I didn't make a post about the end result. 1998 B3 3.2 switch-tronic saloon manual 6 speed conversion. The 4 saloons which were built in RHD were all switch-tronic so I thought why not. Except for the steering wheel, everything is oem spec 3.2 manual. Sam at Hellbm completed the conversion for me, with my supplied parts including various new bushes, bearings etc: -M3 evo 420g, C.V driveshaft etc -New e36 m3 clutch, dual mass flywheel etc -New Alpina shift knob Sam completed the work smoothly and quickly which was awesome. In my tarting up of the driveshaft paint I had painted over the white alignment dots, and there was a bit of a thumpa thumpa at 90kmh which I attributed to this. Dots found, realigned and still thumpa. I took it apart again and lubed the splines up, checked preload on CSB etc. reassembled and vibration mostly gone. Maybe anything remaining is the rear wheel balance?? Clutch engagement was near the floor. Clutch pedal disassembled and found to have flogged out bushes/material which I rebushed and for the small amount of slack which was removed, the clutch engagement improved drastically. Darned plastic pedal... Alpina used the US spec Siemens MS41.1 which is half OBD2 and half OBD. INPA etc over usb identified EWS, KMB and ABS but would only access EWS for me to change from auto to manual. So I just removed the trans fault bulb from the cluster. No issues anyway with idle or rev hang, as evidently the Alpina DME don't have auto or manual allocation. I'm sort of curious whether the KMB fuels differently when pulling away from standstill between auto and manual, because I do have to focus a bit more than I recall on manual BMWs I have owned in the past. I still have the switchtronic steering wheel and will likely keep it out of sheer laziness, unless I can source an Alpina stitched airbag and have a sport wheel restitched to match... End result I'm really happy with.

sorted. Cheers Ray! In need of a replacement high pressure fuel pump if someone has a good working one they’d like to part with. Don’t want to fork out $1300-$2k for a new one if possible.

Hi all. Drain port in the ecu box got clogged and didn't drain water that got in to the bay sadly.. Had this car for a long time and really want to keep my e38 going. looking for these parts. I understand there are parts similar part numbers for to the E38 and E39 ECU modules but the ECU programmer told me it needs to be from an e38 as the e39 ecu is not programming well. The connectors should be fine from an e39 though I assume. Engine ECU Transmission module Engine ECU connector Transmission module Connector Fuse connectors for wiper. Others if available. Any of these please. In Auckland. Thanks in advance!

Spareto and Schmedimann are what id recommend these days. Locally Euroitalian may have something. Id go genuine for the vent valve at least, more reliable and not much more $ than aftermarket stuff. Some aftermarket brands have hoses with inaccurate angles also.

They only got E36 320i's up to 95 in the states (different engine I believe but some of the parts will be the same. Search by part number, a lot of the same parts were used on other cars. Anything not carried by FCP you can probably get from the other usual suspects like schmiedmann, rockauto, pelican etc.

E38 750i (and an Audi) update Yes, I did buy it and have spent *a lot* sorting it out. I will post up some stuff on what's been done... Latest with the E38 750i - had to top up the coolant a couple of times - ~300ml each time ... and boom - new radiator required, sorted by Driscoll Motors. At least it was simpler than an intermittent issue on the wife's Audi Q3 - engine check light turned out to be due to a sticking element on the PCV valve assembly. Lots of troubleshooting/fault-finding time before identifying this. 😕 MBI will at least cover some of it. She was using the V8 X5 while this was being sorted "this uses a lot of gas, doesn't it?" Um, yep - compared to a much more modern 4cyl

Pffft. No commitment! You should buy a Land Rover to repower with the M57...
