2 pointsTime for another side quest on the E46 !! This time it will be getting some bigger brakes in place of the 330 items currently on there. The plan is to go with the current recommended setup from https://thebuildjournal.com/tech-guides/e46-m3-bbk-brake-bias-guide-why-the-megane-rs-trophy-r-is-the-best/ which will be using: Renault Megane Trophy R front 4 pots with (most likely) M3 CSL spec discs Porsche 996 rear 4 pots with M3 spec discs Steel rear adapters from creationsmotorsport.com Front kit will be from freakyparts.co.uk OEM master cylinder initially, will see how it behaves but as it's a 318 item I may swap this out to better suit Have got the rear calipers and adapters ordered. Calipers were from Douglas Valley Dismantlers in the UK; pictured below.

2 pointsThanks mate. I always wanted a tech 1 specifically. A friend's father had one back in the day. I'm based in Rotorua. Don't see many e30s around here though... I think I've come across your e30s while scrolling some other threads. Beautiful cars you have. Eventually I want to get to that standard (the 325i in the Lachssilber 1989 E30 M325i thread is stunning as well).

2 pointsWelcome to the forum! Lovely car mate. I am an e30 enthusiast and specialist. I am partial to the tech 1 e30s and have a couple myself as well as built a few for clients etc. Where are you based?

1 pointHey all. David here. Recently purchased a 1987 E30 M325i (diamant-schwarz). It's been discussed on this forum at one point and was on trade me recently. Used to drive an E30 318i (technically it was my fathers in the 90's and he eventually gave it to me as my first car). Loved E30's ever since. Getting cambelt etc replaced soon and exhaust is a bit loud for my taste so getting that sorted as well. Overall it drives nice. The wheels have grown on me. But will prob replace them at some point. Happy with them for now so not in a rush there. Will gradually restore/lightly mod the car over time. Went through the Lachssilber 1989 E30 M325i thread. Tons of useful info there. And the ride looks slick. Nice decisions made there. Also have a soft spot for the 6th generation Galant VR4. Was the second car I ever owned. Had to get my hands on one of these now cause the prices have been going up on them over recent years and I didn't wanna miss out on either one. Was a throw up between getting the E30 or a mint 1990 VR4. Had to go with the BMW in the end. The E30 M325i is definitely my all time favourite car (VR4 second).

1 pointHi everyone!! Have just bought my first BMW.. it's a 2009 M3 which I'm loving! I've come from owning a Audi A3 and a Golf over the last few years and definitely loving the M3 more! Hope to learn more about the car and the community!

1 pointGot up early this morning and collected the car from the transporter. It looks used but in relatively good condition for the km. Took it for a short drive but it was -4° so the oil didn't get up to temp after 20+ mins off driving and I didn't exactly want to give it much with the chance of ice all over the place. I am very happy with it just now, and also quite nervous as to what I might find in there once I look at it in the light. Shockingly I think it has an oil leak from the filter housing gasket. Unprecedented I know....

1 pointHalf the fuel consumption. M57 is one of the most bulletproof engines BMW has ever produced. More torque than an M3.

1 pointJust been looking at your e61 M5 thread and realised that I took a couple of photos of this car back in Feb 2021 in Christchurch. Prior to your ownership, I think… Epic wagon! Great colour!

1 pointAny reputable oil that meet the specs would be fine. Yeah i usually buy a 20L which is usually far better value. Ive used Fuchs in the past but Penrite is well priced and easily available so i tend to stick with it. You'd definitely want to reset the adaptions as well if you do change the fluid, sounds like it probably needs more than that to remedy it.

1 pointThis will be my first bottom end refresh, but I have done multiple other jobs on various engines, and am confident that I can carry out the repair. Honestly some of the videos I have seen on yt of professionals doing this job have made me cringe, idk, maybe it's fine but I watched one a few days ago and the mechanic was removing the old roof bolts with an impact wrench, seems a bit rough to me. I also have a friend who can lend me a high end torque wrench for the rod bolts. My torque wrenches are fine for most stuff, but I want that to be dead on.

1 pointBeen a while since my last confession! Car failed a WOF on its clapped steering rack (play / leaking / torn boots) 3 weeks ago - hummed and hah'd about doing the purple tag swap but cert / bump-steer test anxiety and being time-poor and WOF'less currently, decided against it. Old rack was beyond a rebuild (shaft stuffed) so went with a remanufactured E30 rack from LPSR in Perth. They do new / remanufactured and used tested BMW racks of all types. Really responsive outfit and arrived in a week. Got car back today and am stoked - was a little worried I was dropping a bunch of coin for a WOF sticker and no driving improvement - it feels so much better though - tighter / smoother and even a little weightier. We also sold our little house in the burbs and bought an apartment in Freemans Bay and will be moving next week. So while the E30 will be gaining a secure covered carpark, I will be losing the ability to meaningfully DIY on it - no drama's TBH as car is well sorted now and I've never had any talent for wrenching. While I'll be doing amore walking and a little less driving, I'm looking forward to hooning around a new neighbourhood.

1 pointCar is really misbehaving at the moment! Gearbox / clutch vibration getting worse and worse so am booking it in March to get the box removed and taken to Kayne Barrie for assessment / rebuild - possibly be in for a new clutch as well… Ancient alarm / immobiliser has always had a few quirks but has really started playing up recently and keeps arming itself while the engine is running - booked to get it removed and replaced this week. Also have an intermittent rattle under the car I though was a loose heat shield but is still persisting at cold idle… Speaking of idle, car is intermittently a little grumpy on cold start (smells very rich and a bit stuttery until warm like it’s an old carbed car) - not sure if it will help but I do have a coolant temp sensor to install (the one that tells the ECU the temp) and might get valves adjusted too (workshop reckon a few sounded noisy and wasn’t running quite right). Will be tarting her up for the Brit and Euro show in Pakuranga on Sunday so at least she will look pretty. Trying to remember what I spent my money on before 😂
