OBC Display showing false reading post instalation of new taillights
kerrynzl replied to MattSB's topic in Maintenance
I had the same bullshit in my OBC,[all the lights were working fine]so I replaced the brake switch, the SOB still kept showing Brake Light Error. So I'll get straight to the point, here's how you fix it: 1: Pull your On Board Computer from the dash 2:On the Right plug there is a brown/grey wire [its 12v dc] 3:Cut the F**ker and tape it up 4: Turn off your car, then turn it back on. NO MORE BRAKE LIGHT ERRORS Hope this helps [Hey I don't need acomputer to tell me the brake lights dont work, 'the cops do that for me'] -
Hey Jochen thanks.it worked great [now I don't need Jungle Race-car services,to remove it with a 'Balljoint hammer'] Next Question: I want to fit this radio into my Jap E36 Coupe. [the plugs & the number of pins is different]Can it be spliced into a different loom [successfully]
-
I don't have an extraction tool, but 4 allen keys will fit. do you push then straight in?
-
Ping the Bonnet open from underneath with a screwdriver, then jumper the battery via the starter motor. Otherwise use a "SlimJim Bar" down the window onto the locking mechnism inside the door [experts can do this in less than 60 seconds]
-
Does Anyone out there in BeemBeem Land know how to remove a [factory]stereo head unit from a E36 without wrecking it. It is a Factory BMW BAVARIA RDS unit [with 4 tiny rubber bungs on the face] The Jap units are easy with 2 allen head bolts- but this unit seems different [south-African]

SO TRUE!! once you've had your bum in the seat at a track, you never look back [you can't drive consistantly at the limit on the street] unfortunately most people are intimidated at the thought of entering into competition FOR THE FIRST TIME [remember we all started somewhere] You are better off being the only one on the track thats inexperienced,The other racers will know where you are. Most Racers Are Very Friendly & Helpful [The only think they don't like is having nobody to race]

I forgot to Add the First step ....................GET THEM CRACK TESTED And New Rod Bolts Shotpeening & Resizing costs between $25 & $50 per rod. on a V8 thats almost $400 [New EAGLE H-Beams cost about $700]
-
General parts, Try Summit Racing [They freight USA FREE] they're a big Mail order house. Get a USA Shipping address & buy your stuff from here
-
the quickest way is to leave a rod-bolt out [it lightens the block too] Otherwise Do it yourself 1: Polish the Beam LENGTHWAYS until smooth [never polish across] 2: Get them Shotpeened 3: fit New Bolts 4: Get them Balanced 5: Get the Big-End Resized [Tunnel Honed] In that order [resizing doesn't affect balancing, but balancing can make the Tunnels Oval] Remember If you don't Shotpeen them, because you have polished off the surface hardening they will break Otherwise Call DOUG'S ENGINEERING in Subway rd Pukekohe [He does the lot]

The middle photo shows a vacuum brake booster, The drawing looks like some sort of fluid recirculation system??? I cant see any high pressure lines [they wouldn't to the reservoir] Can Somebody enlighten us [or put us out of our misery]

There is the problem of combining 'Youth-Freedom-& Irresponsibilty' Add too that 'Selective Memories' of the previous generations [who seem to have more clout in society] what do you end up with?. . . . . .BLAME SYNDROME ["it is alway's somebody else causing trouble]. Boy Racing has been going-on since WWII, returned servicemen used to race down the main 'drag' in modified cars [hence the term 'Drag Racing']. Society will NEVER stamp it out, Why?. . . .Cause it's F**ken good fun,That's why! Most marketing people know this,And Target the youth element for business. What has happened in the last 10 years [approx] is the shift from the established American car culture towards the Japanese scene [Hence 'Boy-Racers' become part of the "them" group] As with any Car Group, There will always be a large number of "hangers-on",driving around with pieces-of-sh*t,trying to impress the real car guys [usually by doing skids etc] A seriously modified car costs a shitload of money [they have to be financed somehow] there are lots of opportunities around to do this [sometimes illegal], Most car-guys have good jobs,& learn to sacrifice things to play with their cars.[Thats what materialism does] When a serious car-guy decides to settle down & give up cars, they usually swap their car hobby for houses, businesses,or whatever [they usually have years of work ethic behind them] One final note; There's a f**kwit MP in Sydenham [christchurch]Thats trying to bring in Anti- Boy-Racer legislation [He will probably suceed,Why? because he is persecuting a sector of society that generally won't [or can't] defend themselves]. This Dickhead is Just Trying to Buy Votes [Winston did it in Tauranga with immigration.Where were the immigrants to defend themselves] DON'T BUY INTO THIS BULLSHIT it's your freedom they are playing with.

Hey I'm doing a manual conversion as we speak, I've had several people want my clutch pedal! If I get enough interest I might pull mine out & get some copies cast up out of alloy

205= 8" on a seven inch rim as you stated , you need the sidewall to be as straight as possible for lateral forces ,Also when a wide tyre is put on a narrow rim the tyre bulges in the centre, similar to over-inflation so you have to run less air pressure which doesn't help lateral forces.Hoosier make a special cantilever 9-1/2" tyre for a 8" rim Another little race secret is too run 'Directional Tyres' backwards on the front of a RWD car [if you don't know why, try slamming the brakes on a Farm Tractor going downhill] this works, you can drive your car deep into the 'sh*t-me' zone under braking. Ring Greg Kirkham at 0800 RACETYRE for Toyo's [tell him they are for a race car]

Raise the Reserve, Then add a comment stating the reserve price [if someone still wants it, you are in luck] you cant raise the reserve once there is a bid
-
I found this economy E36 thats got you guys beat [with petrol consumption] It's a bit down in horsepower though!
-
Gus the Race-Car Mechanic only charges $15/hour

Rust became a warrantable item a few years ago, so now most owners fix their cars for a WOF before their cars get totally Biodegradable
-
Toyo RA1's are great, most musclecar guys ran them when slicks weren't allowed, They were good for 44sec laps on the old taup track with a 1350kg car, also they were great rain tyres. I wouldn't reccomend anything wider than a 205 on 7" rims. If you're gonna use freeby's that someone else has thrown out of their Toybox, I can get a great tyre softener for you

The best [almost] foolproof way to check to see if it's a functional slipper is to jack both rear wheels off the ground.BUT LEAVE THE CAR IN GEAR OR PARK that way if it's a slipper you can't turn the wheels without resistance
-
Bad publicity is better than no publicity, similar to the Ford vs Holden scrap [neither company wants the rivalry to go away] they ALL probably used Saatchi & Saatchi for their ad campaigns. Similar to the Toyota "Bugger" ads years ago, when someone complained about the term bugger, they milked the Free Publicity for all it was worth [as it turns out, it was a relative of a Saatchi employee that done the complaining]

The AFM is an electrical device, as long as ALL air entering the engine goes thru the AFM it should be OK. The Only WOF issues I've had with a cold air box, was with the Beer Chiller I had on the front seat of a Falcon

Lee Mariner at Diffs-R-Us has a great reputation, I assume that if you were putting new springs in your car that you are capable of removing the diff yourself [That'll save you $$$]

Yeah, I agree Gus. Half the glass manufacturers think we're racing a boat. I know someone that put lightweight fibregass panels on a corvette,& it got heavier than the factory pressed fibreglass.[bog is basically fibreglass resin with Talcum Powder mixed in as a thickener] A good Aircraft glass manufacturer should do Quality work. Ultralite Fibreglass in Papakura is one of the best I know of
-
Depends on use! look at boats etc, Fibreglass is semi-flexible but doesn't like impact [it shatters easily] On my Race-car it can withstand Windloads of 270kph, when I slam the brakes on at this speed, the front sandpapers itself on the track [nice fibreglass smell] 'glass is easy to repair.I haven't seen a paint that can withstand the flex of ABS or Urethane so you might as well use 'glass
