The Pillar of Encouragement, We should make you our cultural ambassador! I prefer the more conservative religious approach [Kill Them All, Then God Can Sort Them Out!] God hasn't replied to my requests yet [Lake Ellice has though!]

Give me Your email address, And I'll get Simon to contact you direct [i'm just doing a friend a favor,I thought I'd let bimmersport have a go before trade-me!]

Hey mate, Why bother with a E28 conversion into a E30, I know where a E30 conversion is as well [email protected] Syncrosmash rules. . . Kerry 2.7 short block in it [seing that you'll take it,let round it off at $1,000,000 haha!] Seriously email me direct [as above] Kerry

Don't know, It was sitting in the corner covered in sh*t [waiting to be cannibalised] I'll ask tomorrow

M20 525 as stated, [did BMW make a 2.5 M30?]

If anyone is looking for a E36 manual conversion, from a 1992 non vanos 325 [it is complete but will be getting wrecked out] Email me if interested [no email address= no reply] cheers Kerry

Does anybody want to replace their slushbox with a syncrosmash box? While wandering aimlessly around today I stumbled upon a E28 525 that has a full manual conversion for sale [everything] asking $650.00 Email me , and I'll send you all of the details [no Email address = no reply] he doesn't want his details posted on a public forum

I SEE THAT YOU POSTED IT ON THE "FOR SALE" THREAD!. . . .HOW MUCH MATE???

If you drive it normally , leave it alone. If you are constantly in the upper RPM's do the manifold, exhaust headers,And Cams HP=Torque x RPM [the way to increase HP is to increase volumetric eficiency at higher RPM] BE HONEST TO YOURSELF ABOUT HOW YOU ARE GOING TO USE IT
-
If you are swapping just the carrier you shouldn't need to touch the pinion at all [you will need to check the backlash on the crown wheel] I've done lots of carrier swaps on 'crappy' Borg Warner diffs [Falcon, Valiant Etc] most carriers had the same tolerances [it's the C & P that needs to be matched] so as long as the C & P stay with their respective housing there wasn't a problem. I assume BMW tolerances are better.[borg Warners used shims, not crush sleeves] Measure the lash with a feeler guage ,then swap carriers, then measure again [Have a go]

The M52 used a intake off a M50 2litre , so you will need a M50B25 intake, The HP on the M52 is only less at Peak HP, when you bolt a M50B25 manifold on there is a drop in midrange torque [theoretically the diff ratio should be lowered as well] In fact BMW used a Higher ratio diff in the 328 E36. If you measured the HP at say 2800RPM [100Kph approx] the M52 will probably have more hp & torque. Remember Torque wins races, Horsepower sells engines!!

Thanks for that, I found it. The Stamped Engine # matches the the Eng # on the Tag .So I'm in Luck, I've got an iron block M52 2.8 litre [3.2 litre stroker here we come]

Just done your maths then added $500 for certs and $3000 for a Beemer thats $11000. Is it worth it???

While we are all being wankers, here's some I had prepared earlier. Check out the feathering on the roofof the 2002, & the 6 series is a work of art ain't it. Hahahahahahahahaha!!

New in South Africa, The same owner bought it new & imported it here. Being a Big Block Chevy racer,I'm gonna try and build the largest lazy engine I can [within a realistic budget] Anyway Where on your alloy block do they stamp the serial numbers?

The P/steer has a set pressure and restricted volume Because of the bypass valve you get the same pressure at idle or 7000rpm ,Because of the restrictors you get the same volume at idle or 7000rpm[more fluid is getting dumped into the tank at high RPM] When you parrallel park, you go from lock-to-lock[thats where you need the most volume]not while you are driving[That's why I said put in more restricters].I know 318's are lighter than 320's. It's the Caster that you need the P/steer for [the more caster, the dynamic negative camber] Hey F1 cars have P/steer & they weigh 480kg with driver. I know of several Racers that use 'Bling Bling' braided lines [as racers do]but haven't used restricters in the lines. At High speed the steering is so reactive that the car will dart all over the track because of all the volume being pumped thru the steering box/rack [the bypass valve doesn't need to do it's job either] These Racers blame the steering or the pump but will never entertain the idea of throwing away all the fancy "Aeroquip" fittings and hoses

Hey ,I've just pulled my M52 engine out of my 328. I discovered it's an Iron block. I've decoded the VIN [it is a 328], I rang the last owner [who bought it new] He reassures me it has never had an engine swap. I thought only US spec M52's had Iron blocks, anyway the motor is out,Can anyone tell me where the engine numbers are stamped on it? If I am lucky and it is a Iron 2.8 litre I can see a 86mm Bore happening [more power] CHEERS EVERYONE. . . . Kerry

LEAVE IT IN !!!! If you are building a E30 class racer there's a limit of 2 degrees negative, so you'll need to dial in a shitload of caster to help the geometry,so the steering will get heavier[the power steering helps], most power steering systems are a higher ratio as well! Don't let that bullshit about 'power loss' influence you, A power steering pump is on bypass from just above idle [the P/steer is used most at idle,eg: parrallel parking] if the steering gets too reactive [touchy] put a oil restricter in the pressure line. Remember pressure is pressure and volume is volume,Meaning : the 'power' is via pressure, the 'speed' is via volume [restricters slow down the volume to help stabilise it at High RPM]slowing down the pump [about 25%] with stop the fluid aerating Note: My Corvette was 0.2 sec faster on Taupo's short track WITH P/steer, I could brake later & apex it where I wanted to [without P/steer I had too Brake earlier so I could Aim the car better] It's Like Fighting The Animal,Thats trying To Kill Me Hope this is of help. . . . . Kerry

I was comparing it with my E36 328 [which is a shitload heavier] for drag racing I'd go lower. For a street application the only handicap would be off the line [nothing 7000rpm and side stepping the clutch wouldn't fix] otherwise cruizin in fifth would be great on the highway
-
3.64 Ratio with a E30 gearbox 0.82 fifth gear= 2.98: 1 in fifth [My 328 has a 1:1 fifth with a 2.93:1 diff] You've got it spot on [either thru Tin-arsed Luck or Good Planning Haha!] Well done! It'll be a lot of fun when you get it hooking up off the corners Cheers Kerry

Get hold of Brent, he'll have a good used one [get him to rip it out of that M5 7series he just bought,Then He'll have to put the engine to good use] Also check out TRADE-ME auction #63820612 ,That would be worth the risk.

(Oh and yeah I know it wont bolt in, but I'm guessing if I hack up the bellhousing on my auto, my mechanic can assemble something, failing that I'll just have a cry lol) The ZF box doesn't have a detachable bellhousing ,so you are wasting your time! the other alternative is to lathe up an adapter plate [to center the gearbox] into the auto bellhousing, And use a celica gearbox [this method is used on Lexus V8 conversions into Hilux's] Believe me "CHEAP DOESN'T WORK" your adaption will end up costing more than going to buy the bits that will fit [if you cant find a box, import one,or put an auto back in] I'm presently doing a manual into auto swap on a E36

IN THE BOTTOM LEFT HAND CORNER OF THIS THREAD, THERE'S A LITTLE BOX WITH "ENGLISH" WRITTEN ON IT! I CLICKED ON IT, BUT IT STILL DIDN'T DECIPHER WHAT YOU HAD WRITTEN?????

Make sure you know the history of the oil cooler [or can clean it] Oil coolers a generally a throwaway item when an engine runs a bearing [the debri is usually impossible to clean out 100%] BUY A NEW ONE! or Don't use one!

I can't speak for BMW's , but most rear ends you can usually swap the carrier [as long as the crown and pinion stay with the housing it came with]
