  1. As I quoted before " a locked rear will aggravate any existing understeer problems." Set up the car properly so it doesn't "push" or understeer. High speed corners can be remedied with shock absorber adjustments. At low speed corners ,the rear roll couple needs to be stiffened If the suspension stiffness is already correct for corner exit [ squat etc ] leave it as is , then add / or stiffen a rear "anti roll bar" On slower tracks I used to soften the front "anti roll bar" A LSD [ also ABS brakes ] are just a "quick fix" for a handling / traction problem. pre-65 cars and HQ's run open diffs and they dial out the traction problems. In 1987 the "Leyton House" F1 team were qualifying with an open diff. LSD's are a compromise for street cars [ LOCK IT UP ]
  2. What a brilliant piece of legislation! [ everybody should read it "properly"] Firstly, it gives more power to the COURTS not the police [ so everybody is entitled to legal representation ] The four years probationary period is enough time for these immature pricks to grow up and behave themselves, then the slate gets wiped clean. The clever peace is clause 7: .Clause 7 amends section 129 of the principal Act, which generally requires the confiscation of a motor vehicle after the commission of a second offence, to cover the case where an offender commits a repeated street racing offence (ie, an offence against section 36A(1)(a) or © of the Land Transport Act 1998) but the motor vehicle concerned is not confiscated. In that case, warning notices have to be sent to creditors with an encumbrance over the motor vehicle. The creditors must be told that any motor vehicle owned by the offender or a substitute is liable to be confiscated and destroyed if the offender commits another street racing offence within 4 years from the commission of the first offence. Brilliant!!! Get the finance companies to confiscate the cars for the police and courts Here is a piece taken from the "fine print" on the back of an old 'hire purchase' agreement where the grantor agrees not to : ( iii ) do or permit any act or thing which leads or is likely to lead to the Chattels being seized under distress or other legal proceedings or to a lien being created upon the Chattels All we need now is a way to quickly get rid of all the unregistered dangerous / rusty pieces of crap of our roads [ our cars will hold value better ] Personally I think the police should instantly remove the plates off "de-registered" vehicles [ not unlicensed ] then people take a greater risk of being caught by using these vehicles. I assume "registration plate offences" are when people switch plates etc for a variety of reasons I like doing skids , so my advice is " DON'T GET CAUGHT "
  3. Lock it completely, On a racecar you won't regret it [ all NZ V8's and V8 supercars etc are locked ] You'll need to stiffen the rear "roll couple" a bit, because a locked rear will aggravate any existing understeer problems. If you car has good corner entry, but loses a bit of drive on corner exit you need to stiffen the "rebound" on the rear shocks and soften the "jounce" This helps the car turn in by unloading the inside rear but also helps the rear squat on exit [ weight transfer ] Combine this with a locked rear is a recipe for fun!
  4. Be Clever and lose your license in February for 3 months, you can have the last laugh because it's only 89 days [ we can still have a laugh while we are driving round with a license ]
  5. Only to be outdone by a red "Nissan March" I saw in China with the Ferrari "Prancing Horse" decals on the front fenders At least he had the common sense not to put a "quatrovalve" emblem on the back [ he'd lose all credibility then ]
  6. This thread is for the "gayest BMW " , plenty of other marques fit the category E30's are cool and have a nice racing pedigree, but as soon as one gets "pimped" with "blackout taillights" or "fag-mags" is the same as stuffing a pair of socks inside ya pants 318ti's are OK until somebody thinks its a genuine M3
  7. The Gayest car??? All E30's that are "pimped" what are they trying to acheive? A road registered "penis extension"? [ definately a sign of insecurity ] The most masculine car? Any stolen car while being chased by the law!! [ not reccommended so the race track comes a quite close 2nd ]
  8. Try Wilwoods they have alloy hats and steel rotors [ ph 0800 CARDWELL ] and they're cheap [ compared to hitting a wall ] Do not use Race Pads on the street, they require a lot of heat to work properly on hillclimb events you are better off with street pads because the brakes are usually cold, except for the final stop [even a drum brake Viva can lock the wheels up! "once"]
  9. Thanks Andrew But what I am really talking about is value for money here! If he was a 100% E30 purist , he would be restoring it ,or looking for the "E30 Holy Grail" the M3 [ which costs $$$ ] I'd could sell him my E36 Manual coupe [ with a spare stroker M50 motor still on the engine stand] for less than cost of most rebuilds Speaking from experience here! "A Car is only as valuable as it's paint job" unless it has a significant history. [ please don't confuse "A Car" with "Car Parts" ] I have "parted out" plenty of cars over the years to recover the money I spent on them.
  10. Patch up the Oil Leak and flog the car off, then buy a later model with a bigger engine. [ you can do this on credit and drive it immediately ] It'll be cheaper than a Stroker Motor to buy an E36 or E46 outright If you did your maths you could "offset grind" the crank and Mix and match some smaller journal Jap rods etc But the rebuild that goes with it, will set you back over $10K
  11. Hahahaha! I was thinking about starting a thread about chanding my wheels After I get about 60+ replies, I'll mention it was because one had a puncture [ point taken Glenn ]

    M20 camshafts

Glenn, Hotrodders used "Madhatters" methods years ago [ a degree wheel and a dial-test indicator ] I think they called it "fingerprinting cams" or something They would graph the valve lift [ not lobe lift ] with a degree wheel on the crankshaft
  13. When the Jehovahs Witnesses at your door refer to the "good book" you think of the "Bentley Manual" for your car

    Hillman Imps?

The car has a bit of race history that goes back to the old Levin track days. When he bought it , it was hanging a Nissan engine off the Hillman transaxle. Two years ago, would have been about the time he had just transplanted the Scooby engine [ All transplants have "teething problems" ] It is sorted now, and is really flying
  15. kerrynzl

    Hillman Imps?

Was that a sky blue model with a slight "chopped roof" If so, it is owned by a guy here in Tauranga.[ he is a very competent driver on the track ] It now has a mid mounted turbo'd scooby engine in it, & it does very respectable lap times
  16. Yeah there are many ways to "create" Hp on a dyno! I've seen a guy spray freezing nitrous at the intercooler on a rolling road [ it picked up 100Hp ] I have also heard of unscrupulous engine builders pressurize the "dyno room" to help sell their Hp building talents This car is cool as hell , but my preference is "rivots and alluminium" [ and race history ] I don't think any purists would dissagree with the skills or quality of this car. For every Camaro chopped up leaves the existing cars more valuable The pristine 1969 Camaro [ genuine ] Z28 sitting in my garage should be worth more with every one of these being cut up
  17. Personally, I thing Ron's advice is the most sensible even if it doesn't satisfy our motives The cheapest performance enhancer is the "driver" [ drive it harder ] HP = Tq x RPM ,so you need to enhance it so it is more efficient at a higher RPM or get a bigger motor [ BMW's are already quite efficient ] Mods usually cost a fortune but are only needed about 3% of the time, consider nitrous on your small motored street machine [ and leave the rest standard ]
  18. Yeah! good idea! We can all try and seek a higher level of existence [ my Corvette already goes to 7500 ]
  19. Have you ever considered that your mind is closed? I am not just criticising religous extremists, the moderates are just as guilty I would welcome some sort of god into my thinking but unfortunately to this date there has been zero proof of any existence of a "higher being" [ please dismiss the "hope and fantasy" factor or " coincidences as real evidence ] If for some unlikely reason I was to narrow my thinking to one doctrine, which one of the thousands should I choose from? Yours?????
  20. Both Al Qaeda and the Ku Klux Klan are extremist groups that use religion as a tool for their real agenda [ hatred & power ] Recruitment for them is easy, because all the "moderate groups" have already indoctrinated potential candidates with years of their mindless drivel. All an extremist group needs to do is seek out disillutioned candidates and present them with "half truths" Unfortunately our idealisms about freedom give these nutters the right to practice [ until they break the law ] Our P/C society is too scared to offend them, yet they continually offend us with their preachings about fantasy's,myths and fairy tales of "Gods and Goblins, Devils and Demons Blah Blah" As an individual, a person can better their life by simply dismissing religion as a total "crock of sh*t" passed down by ignorant ancestors.[ God simply doesn't exist ] Religion is not needed by people, Humanity is needed by people
  21. re: my posting and comments previously Quoted from Wikipedia: "Beer is one of the world's oldest beverages, possibly dating back to the early Neolithic or 9000 BC, and is recorded in the written history of Ancient Egypt and Mesopotamia" Which is approx 11000 years ago, or 5000 years before God created the universe [ according to the gospel quoted by these f**kwits ] The problem with religion is Faith itself, people ignorantly go on believing without any sort of real evidence [ except for some fable passed down from generations ] Because it is written, they believe it to be true , I've seen better moral teachings in a "Dr Seuss" book [ This must be real to, because it is also written in a book ] Another problem is "Religous Tolerance", it was even quoted on this forum "Everybody needs to believe in something" or I sometimes hear other people say "people are allowed to believe in what they want" Being tolerant to religion is just as guilty as these extremist idiots ,by giving them permission to practice their belief and ultimately push their bullsh*t upon us All religion should be Banned Period

    M20 camshafts

You'll find that Cams, Compression and 'Gear Ratios' are all good "bed partners". The short duration cams [ or less overlap ] hold more cylinder pressure so they generally need less static compression. Unfortunately short duration cams run out of "lungs" at higher RPM's [ unless it has variable advance ] A higher revving [ lower diff ratio ] engine usually has a 'fatter' cam, so the manufacturers usually 'up' the compression ratio. They also used higher compression and 'fatter' cams to overcome poor breathing of the engine [ helped with high octane fuel ] I would guess that the early E21 would also have a higher static compression etc [as well as a fatter cam] Many street "wannabe's" usually put the fattest cam they can buy into their engine [ so it can go "rump rump" ] and discover the engine has no low down torque because all the cylinder pressure has bled off [ "she couldn't pull the skin off a rice pudding" was the description I once heard ] Up the compression as well
  23. Who.....Me or Einstein?? Haha! After looking at the video , these "Rocket Scientists" think 'The Almighty' created the Universe at about the same time in history as the Palestineans started brewing beer. Maybe "God" is an illusion created in a drunken stupor [ or perhaps "God" is a pisshead ]
  24. The preachings of Jesus have nothing to do with the rantings of churches , the bible was written approx 300years after the so-called resurrection [ "by people that had witnessed it"] As an ex Car Dealer I can honestly say "Same Game Different Product" [ they seem to be better at finding suckers, who are not protected by the "Fair Trading Act" ] In 1954 Einstein wrote " ... The word God is for me nothing more than the expression and product of human weaknesses, the Bible a collection of honourable, but still primitive legends which are nevertheless pretty childish." I myself, have been labelled an "Athiest" many times, which is wrong because an athiest takes an opposing view to a belief. [ how can I hold an view to something that simply doesn't exist ] I have one thing to say about the stupidity of faith [ faith is the real problem ] "MY INVISIBLE FRIEND IS BETTER THAN YOUR INVISIBLE FRIEND" that's how stupid an childish religion [ and religous wars ] are
  25. Sounds like a Fuel pump issue eg: blocked pickup [ when you switch it off for a moment all the crap clears a bit ] also check the current draw while cranking it [ the starter might be drawing too much for the F/pump etc ]
