So, who's still watching? Too high yet, hate to see them go to Aussie.

Been linked here before, good for a laugh tho.

If you want a car to actually learn something from, get a 318 E30. Do your own servicing and repairs, very easy engine to work on, lots of room in the engine bay. Can look real nice when done up, plenty of go for a 15 year old, and a good start to go on from.
-
Yeah, or just run a hacksaw over the top a few times, doesn't take much to put enough of a cut for a screwdriver.
-
Hi, just had a look at one on my bench, I may have put the slot in it with a hacksaw, but it definately unscrews, it is threaded.
-
It unscrews, has a slot for a slotted screwdriver, should come undone easily.

Hey, let us know what the problem was when you get it soted please Gus. Did you fit a new waterpump? That would have to be the only other thing maybe?
-
Would try the hose again, leave all other pipes on, open the radiator and the bleeder nipple and jam the garden hose in that small bottom hose, the 20mm one from the bottom of the rad. Wait until the water is flowing freely out the top of the rad and the bleeder, then reconnect the bottom hose and test again. My guess would still be air. Have you tried it with the thermostat out yet.
-
Only other thought would be to leave the thermostat out and see if it still overheats then, may run a little cool but won't do any short term harm, will let you know if water's circulating and eliminate the thermostat as a problem. Most mechanics will tell you that chucking shows an air block or blockage of some kind, as the water isn't able to circulate and so it builds up back pressure and blows back to the radiator. I doubt it's your radiator.

George Stocks, 8 Te Apunga Place Mt Wellington. They're around Carbine Rd, just past the Tip Top place.

Aussie $600 bid, head hit mine against a brick wall or his if he was close enough.

When you open the radiator when it's hot, is it fair chucking the water back, hardcore bubbling? Have been thru the same, found I had an air block even after bleeding etc. Had to end up taking the small bottom return water pipe off at the radiator end and jammed the garden hose up it, then turned the hose on and let it force water right thru. Replaced the hose after that and rebled, all good then, no more overheating, worth a shot.
-
I wouldn't throw it away, doubt it's the problem, but you could try taking it out and running without one to see if that fixes the problem. It just allows the water to circulate all the time which tends to have the car running a bit cold, but if it still overheats then you know it's not the thermostat!
-
Heater bypass should be fine, would suggest you rebleed it, and see how it is then. If you're still using water keep checking for where it's going.
-
If you're losing water it's going somewhere, check when it's hot, listen for any hissing under the bonnet, check hoses and fittings, don't forget to check the heater as well, and all the small hoses which carry water around the intake.
-
I've taken the aircon fan and rad out and have no heating problems. If you're not losing water, then I'd be checking water pump, viscous fan and thermostat first, IMO the aircon fan does nothing to cool the motor, I think you've been sold a line, manual cars without aircon don't overheat. I'd be chasing the wrecker for my money back?
-
Don't forget your motor's got the same head as a 318 m40, probably worth more by selling the head if it's good and splitting the box off. Head should be worth 250 to 300 if good, maybe more, don't know what the box's worth?
-
Hey, sorry, the head on my new car's gone so I don't have one for sale at the moment.
-
Hi thanks, total cost with the 3 race cars finished would be around $27k, total value depends on how you value the race cars, I've been told they should fetch 12 to 15 each, but depends on demand I guess.
-

HB Andy, luck with the series car.

I may have one, will know for sure on Sunday, depends on the state of the head in the new car I've got coming tomorrow? The head I'd sell has been skimmed at the local head shop so it's flat, and is in good condition, no cracks, not warped, but has no cam, only bare head with valves and springs still in. Will want $300 for it, will post Sunday if it's for sale and you are interested. Cheers.
