There are probably quite a few in here that could help him do that Graham

It's more likely not to be the Vanos unit. The crankcase ventilator valves give alot of problems and this can also cause the Disa valve to rattle in the plenum chamber. It could also be an idler or tensioner for the drive belts. Get it checked by someone that knows what they are doing. Dont know anyone in Dunners though. Might be best to take a trip to the stealers

I think the Alpina's look great on the car. What do you intend to fit in there replacement Jeremy ??

Keep your booking with Ross on Thursday. I cant do it till next week at the moment. Obviously there is a bit more to it. They have looked at it and given you a price to do the repair. We charge the same prices and they are good people to deal with as well. You dont want to risk the barrel jamming completely, because then it will cost alot more to repair. Get it repaired ASAP. I have covered this fault in previous threads. Cheers Glenn

Dont drive it till you either have a good look at it yourself or ring them and tell them what has happened. It might be the expansion tank or another hose.

You went to alot of trouble to fix a simple repair. We could have fixed your old one for $120. It's a common problem. The ignition switches are all the same. If you have EWS, the reader coil that fits over the barrel reads the chip in the key. The second hand ignition barrel & key wont work if you have EWS. You will have to refit the old one and we can still fix it for you. If you have the red infa red globe under your rear vision mirror, you have EWS and the second had parts wont work. If you have a solid key you cant get the chip out. You can only swap them on the remote type keys that have batteries in them. The chip sits next to the battery in the blade end of the key.

A lady walks into a BMW showroom. She browses around, spots a beautiful red M6 and walks over to inspect it. As she bends over to look more closely inside to check out the comfort area she inadvertently breaks wind. Very embarrassed, she looks around nervously to see if anyone has noticed her little accident and prays that a sales person doesn't pop up right now. As she turns around, her worst nightmare materializes in the form of a salesman standing right behind her. Cool as a cucumber and displaying complete professionalism, the salesman greets the lady with, 'Good day, Madam. How may we help you today?' Very uncomfortably, but hoping that the salesman may just not have been there at the time of her little 'accident', she asks, 'Sir, what is the price of this lovely BMW ?' He answers, 'Madam, if you farted just looking at it, you're going to sh*t yourself when I tell you the price.'

McMillans are $120 + GST
-
Personaly, my opinion on the invoice charges, is that they are over the top. Genuine oil filters are $21.98 + GST Bosch FR7LDC spark plugs should retail for $12.00 + GST I have never had a 325 engine take 8 litres of oil... 6.5-7.25 max. The oil price is fair for full synthetic Injector cleaner and engine flush costs are add ons to make money... did they actually do it ??? The Labour cost is reasonable and I would do a proper thorough inspection if I had not serviced the car before for about the same hours. With the owners consent. The job description is very brief for the actual time spent on the work carried out. Just my opinion Cheers Glenn

If this car was purchased by someone and used as a daily, it would ruin its value. Remember its a 1994 I owner done 20,000km and one of seven of its build type in the world and the only one of two of this build type in NZ. None ever came into the country through BMW NZ and there are only 4 genuine 850 Csi's in the country.

Everythings all finished...goes for compliance recheck tomorrow Drove it 3 X today BTW: got some more pictures ... I'll post them up in the morning... new roundels and pictures of the ASC control unit we had to replace and what was involved in doing it.

New or 2nd hand...and why?. You sure its the pump and not just the wiring??
-
Serious people are already in touch and the value will not be put up in here for the reason you have just stated. Serious people already know the value of this unique vehicle and it would be great to keep it here in NZ.

I've lived in Sth Auck most of my life. When I was younger I lived in Manurewa... It was quite safe to walk around at night and in the day time. Now I dont think so, especially at night. We lived in Hill Park when we first got married and I now live in Papakura/Hunua. We have a small lifestyle block and the driveway is just on a kilometer long. Its nice and quiet ( no hoons driving past ) and the house being on a plateau overlooking the drive gives a a good advantage as far as safety is concerned and "lowriders" cant get up or down the drive in a hurry. The house is alarmed, every window and external door is deadlocked, I have safes and I've converted the onsuite into a safe area with its own phone and panic alarm system in the event of a home invasion. I'm also a licenced firearms holder. Might sound like overkill, however I think its a sign of the times and the environment we now live in. Shame really. One thing has happened to me at work though, 2 young thugs attacked me outside work as I was leaving for the day and tried to get my handbag ... I mean briefcase. I won..... But I ended up with a pretty badly bruised arm. This all happened at 5.00 oclock in broad daylight with heaps of people around that didnt even try to help me... they just watched, and it wasnt till the arseholes took off in their stolen car, did anyone approach me. All I got was... you were lucky....yeah right. Now I put my briefcase or other things into the car before I leave while I still have staff here. Then I leave with nuthing in my hands, and have a good look around before I lock up and leave. MY OPINION IS : SOUTH AUCKLAND IS NOT AS SAFE AS THE POLITICIANS MAKE IT OUT TO BE

You smart arse Actually, driving without the "handbrake" is so much better.... no traction control module sitting in the passengers seat

Around 60,000km for rotor replacement is normall, depending how hard you drive Disc pads and new rotors Next time : Disc pads and machine 25-30,000km Next time: Disc pads and rotors another 25-30,000km You normaly get 2 sets of fronts to 1 set of rears 5, 6, 7 and X series are another story though. For some drivers it's new pads & rotors every time, especially on X5's
