I agree with Dave. Sounds very much like you've got a headgasket problem.

Have you got the throttle cable too tight ??. Someone might have adjusted the throttle body idle stop or it could be a sticky idle control valve, try cleaning it out with carb cleaner.

We use ELF products. However most well branded names are fine to use The transmission will have a green sticker on the bottom of the pan indicating the type of oil to use. I would get a professional to do the trans service though. There is a proceedure and you might not have access to the tools necessary to do this... just my suggestion

Engine oil should be 5W40 Full synthetic Trans either G3 full synthetic or longlife...depending what transmission it has..see my previous thread for suggestions when doing a trans service http://www.bimmersport.co.nz/forums/index....showtopic=16806

I;d have to say ...keep with the same colour. A colour change never looks right unless it's a full strip. Just my opinion.. but you might regret doing it At the end of the day though it has to be your choice BTW..black pearl is a great colour

Its not easy unfortunately, I have a special set of hooked picks I use to release the clips on the kidney grills. You can buy a cheap set from Repco. You might end up breaking the clips though. The joys of fixing a "cock up". The only way to get in there though is by removing a kidney or both. If you can see the cable with a torch, you might be able to make up a long hook with some thing to pull the cable, but it will need to be strong. The outer cable is in two pieces and one of the ends wont be located properly in one of the locks, or the cable might be broken. Why did you have all this off ?? Next time, check the operation of both locks and check that the release handle unlocks both before you close your bonnet. Good luck with it Cheers Glenn
