Would you Adam and Eve it !! I dig out an old RCA to 3.5mm cable from my box of computer stuff, open up the dash again, pull back the tape around the RCA cable find it not plugged into anything. So I plug my cable in, attach the ipod, press the AUX button and there we have it ! Who wouldve thought a 1990 NZ new stereo would be ipod compatible with a simple RCA cable But man I need some better speakers !
-
Thanks Brent. I might go and pull it all out again now for a quick look

You mean the grey cable taped to the two black ones Brent ? If its an aux input whats it likely to be connected to ? When I press Aux/CD nothing happens which lead me to believe I would need the cd changer to make it work. If it is an aux input, any idea what I need to plug into it to connect an ipod ?

I always thought if you were submerged in water that you opened the window a little bit to let the water and once the car was full you opened the door because the pressure had been equalised. How does a hammer smash the glass with the pressure of the water on the other side ? Maybe I should read the link to find out !

Wow a whole page with no TM fails.......on topic please people

Photos..... Headunit Poor photo of plug Im sure this plug went to a cd changer in my previous e30 so this is what I need to find a out diagram for isnt it ? It had a nice little plastic cap on the end of it which leads me to believe its not already wired to the boot.

Hey Rogan, you dont have access to the XR-7300 manuals do you? The one youve posted above is the XR-C7300 instead. Ive found it on the web but the places want money for it !
-
Thanks Rogan, I pulled out the cage last night very quickly to have a look and it looks like its all wired up for a cd changer with a plug Ive not seen before. I took a photo so Ill post it up. Its round the size of a finger and Im sure Ive seen the other end go into a cd changer in an old e30 I once had. Maybe thats something I can tap into.

I was thinking of selling you the 'is' so I could but it

On the front it has an aux/cd button. On the web I can find the pin diagram showing that its basically just a cd and not an aux in the modern day 'ipod' sense. Ive seen a write up on the web where a guy soldered in an ipod connection and I wondered if I could do the same. I know I could always just get a new BT/ipod headunit but to be honest I dont like the way the new headunits look in the older cars so want to see if I can get this going first. So my thoughts are.... If I take the cage out from the dash (this unit removes from the dash entirely for the ultimate in stereo security !) I should be able to get the loom this unit attaches to. I should then be able to see if a cd changer is actually wired into it. If it is I should be able to find out where that goes and would I then to be able to wire in an ipod instead ? If its not can I still wire something in anyway ? I know sod all about electrics, so any help is appreciated. Ill try and get a photo of the stereo up shortly, but I doubt it will help.

I think that would be blindingly obvious Tony !

I havent experienced an eastern european winter, but Ive done plenty of western european winters in the north of England and Holland and I can tell you -5 is cold, but bearable, but -20 is going to freeze your nuts solid. I personally wouldnt bother taking too many outer garments/clothes, especially coats. Take plenty of thermals sure, but buy coats, hats and gloves locally knowing they can handle the conditions and get used to it quickly

The old chestnut eh. You see them on TM for 750 and so thats its value but the only one you know to have sold went for 200 and took a year to have sold. The rules are very simple so put up a price please. Even if its 'offers over' $xxx.

And nine hours over night too ! Have a search through the forums, you'll find the e39 buyers guide scanned in from ages ago and discussion on which e39 to buy is one of the most common threads on here. It wont take you long at all to find all the answers your looking for. Ultimately you will have to get it looked at by a professional. First impression is its a reasonable price, the interior is not the best colour and I would think for maybe a grand or two more you could get a much better deal in terms of a younger car, with a bigger engine (528) and more toys.

HB fella. Many thanks for all your help over the phone the last couple of years.

Yeah, but I know its a BMW and I think its retarded to buy a plate with the car make on it If I can pick something up for $200 or less Id be well happy.

Clear fronts, sides and fogs....job done. Im not keen on the yellow fogs with the blue paintwork though.

Sort of Nick I want a personalised euro plate where the 'personalised' xxx123 means something Im not bothered about. Im aware you cant swap 'standard' plates but seen a couple of plates which could easily be mistaken for a standard xxx123 designation. I quite fancy the PROPLR plate thats on at the moment, but not enough to pay 500 for it.
-
I wish I hadnt said anything now, cause all the standard plates are going to go up in price with us all trying to get one. Maybe I should delete the thread until I buy something for myself

Im in two minds about doing the top and bottom of the bumpers, but Im leaning towards yes, do the bumpers with the middle bit staying black. You need something to break up the colour and you have the dark tints to help it already. Looking good Andrew.

I think it would look fantastic with all the body kit colour coded. It just looks unfinished if you leave it looking like it is.

Because Ive seen them in the flesh and they are nasty with a capital 'N'....Im such a snob
-
And are illegal with more and more people getting caught and fined every day In fact, didnt they stop making NZ plates altogether ? Ive done UK plates many times and havent had any trouble with fines because the UK font is nothing like the German one. But as Im not bothered what the plate says why not pick one up for the same price of the fine and be all nice and legal?
-
Thats my point. It costs $400 to just change my existing plate in the first place so if I can pick up a euro plate off TM for half that and transfer it for pennies why not ? Im not looking for anything personal to me, just something thats not offensive and half the price of swapping my own plate.
-
If I was to buy a set of euro plates off tradme what does it cost for me to change from my 'given' plate to them? Anyone know ?
