  1. Exactly! And to add - A V8 E39 (or any any E39 for that matter) although 11 years old, is still a very complex motor car & not a vehicle any Joe Bloggs can fix/service without correct knowledge & equipment. Not to say that it must be serviced by agents but if it suits one have done there then fine.
  2. Yes true but probably a little jealousy amongst that thought too - if we're honest
  3. Welcome Ron, great to have some from across the ditch. Nice example car you have. See you still have some grass there
  4. Definitely have it scanned to confirm. Although GT1 is best, any decent sparky should have a scanner to check it with
  5. Could be a bulb. With respect, if you cant tell then probably best you get it to an auto sparky - prob a 5 min fix. Relays in these cars are not standard termination (although terminal positioning is the same the configuration is different) I have heaps of these relays if you need any

    driving belts

Could be anything from damaged or out of line or worn pulley. Belt could have picked up a stone & been damaged. Or - was it infact replaced? Do you have the reminents? May be able to tell from that? DONT drive the car without belt.

    Todays funny

Somehow I sense a reaction here
  8. Great youré ok. Bummer on the car - yes thay can be replaced but not always with what you had. Hope the insurance company now acknowledge & pay out on it's rarity accordingly
  9. Could possibly be like BMW where there is an overide cable situated inside boot behind the trim by the cap
  10. Cheers Andrew - dont need F##kwits like him/her on here
  11. Me too, bit suspicious -opened it & Canadian link to viagra etc. New member so obviously dodgy. Administrators need to disable membership!
  12. Audi/Volkswagon NZ do now have nav map available so retrofit MAY be an option. Not that I have researched Do they not have worldwide tunable TV tuners as BMW?
  13. Very crisp looking car Nick - well done! Not sure on the green parks but agree to rid the yellow & not really much other option
  14. The things some people do Destroys what should be a bloody nice car

Think from memory there are a few versions of that colour - or so I was told

    car wont start

May be flooded - try new plugs. But really - hard to explain all variables & solutions if you don't really know what you are doing. Maybe best to get it proffesionally checked. DONT mess with valve timing if you have no idea - it's either right or wrong - NO in between
  19. With respect, without knowledge you are probably chasing your tail. Best to get it to an auto sparky & get professionally diagnosed - will save a lot of frustration.
  20. Think in this case Glenn was referring to towing rather than driving due to water consumpion rather than SRS fault. Totally correct though on having it scanned to confirm fault. Yes the seat sensor is common to fail but plenty of other reasons too - a guess without confirming first.
  21. 2000 & 1/00 -My point about being NZ new:- Can't imagine a Jap destined market car coming to NZ as new. OR - as you say - maybe a typo? Also as already stated - hasn't got a Jap bootlid - either it's been changed or car is not Jap origin. Interested as to the 3 letters under K/PH in the speedo head - Jap cars have JPN, Euro/NZ don't - thats where I was assuming maybe ECE for Euro/NZ?
  22. Got the Jap service book with the E39 when I bought it in. Bought car at nearly 5 years old, done 24k & showing two services with date & milage of each one documented. Everything matching. As for rest of info as to what was done - who knows??
