  1. Long story short, bought a M20B23 converted E30 320. After fighting to stabilise the rust (total removal not practical), fuelling among other dramas, it seems the front crank shaft bolt has sheared off inside the engine. So i was half considering repowering it anyway, so it's not full tears time. Once i saw the extent of the rust though i decided just to run it into the ground then use it for parts or track duties. Anywho the crank bolt scenario means the ground is much much closer. I really love the E30, much more fun than my old E39. Im at a crossroads here, repower, part, replace with another e30 or should i just grab an E36 M3 as they seem to be bloody great value, on par with a cared for 325. There is that SAF E30 327 supercharged that's on trademe also... Could have days or weeks to make up my mind
  2. Given they seem to have used superglue to fix the dizzy rotor... not much surprises me about this car now. I'm very close to giving this task to the professionals. It may already be too late for the crank shaft as it's been like this for about 3000km that i know of, and God only knows how many of the km since rebuild as i only just fixed the odometer which had been busted for a few years
  3. I think there might be more to this. It's a 320 repowered with an M20B23, so the toothed pully and crank shaft sensor appear like they might are B20 parts and they don't quite fit the B23... the plot thickens.
  4. After crankshaft bolt for M20B23 or equivalent.
  5. Definite interference between waterpump pully and toothed thing. The pump pulley won't spin without scraping on the thing even with the belt fully slacked off. Son of seven whores... I'm guessing this is a radiator out and few nights work kinda job.
  6. The thing with the teeth, shiny on the front, looks like interference with waterpump pulley? And it does seem to wobble. Could be a clue me thinks It looks like all 6 accessory pully bolts are good. But is the crank bolt missing?!
  7. So basically since I've owned this car it's had a weird almost rhythmic knocking. It sounds to me like a count of 6 knocks then a lull then 6 more. Obviously, it's a 6 cylinder car so it could be seriously bad news like a bearing, but this engine was allegedly a pretty recent rebuild when I bought it, and for all the dramas I was warned of by others that viewed the car, no one seemed worried about this noise from the engine bay. So I'm hoping it's either just totally normal for this engine, or it's a one of the pulley driven doodads on the front of the motor, because that does seem to be where it's loudest.
  8. Hi I'm trying to get my hands on wide band o2 sensor and a way to read error codes for my E30 M20B23. Have the pacman style plug.
  9. Dyno graph kinda looks like surging doesn't it? Somthing wrong with timing or fuelling?
  10. So brake fluid flush and bleeding with a one man bleeding kit, happily done rear end first and all seemed well, missus came out to help with fronts... somthing I'd not been able to see from the drivers seat is that the bubbles just don't seem to stop. So either the nipple is letting some air in as the fluid goes past... or is master cylinder cooked. I'd always thought the brakes seemed a little soft, effective but soft. Old fluid was cloudy and very dark yellow. https://youtu.be/e3ICe_SgVxk On a probably related note, i noticed for the fronts that if i didn't take about 2 seconds to push on brake pedal and liftup over a second, it didn't seem to reload with fluid and only pumped a small amount through If it is the master cyclinder, is it best to rebuild or replace and/or upgrade?
  11. It wouldn't surprise me if bmw pioneered it, i think the gtr skylines used it to great effect in racing. At low speeds the front and rear wheels turn to opposite lock to give a smaller turning circle, but at high speed they turn to the same lock making the vehicle basically slide sideways rather than front first and rear follow.
  12. Considering the rotary was a German engine designed in germany by a german guy for German applications...it's not really thaaaaaat out of place in a bmw.
  13. I vote that someone on the forum from Palmy should go look and take some photos for us to see how it actually looks now.
  14. http://www.trademe.co.nz/motors/used-cars/bmw/auction-240089175.htm Not sure where to start, but i'd say the price in the window indicates they are either out of their minds, or are using stock photos taken about a decade ago. The KM are insanely low, it has basically not moved for 9 years, about 500km of driving, that just can't be good for it? https://www.carjam.co.nz/car/?plate=car180 Even with this low milage, I think 15k is a bit of a stretch.
  15. Oh sweet, that suits me great! http://www.billswebspace.com/BMWE30.net%20-%20Resetting%20the%20SIL.htm Cheers
  16. Exact same thing happened to my listing. 538 is some kind of web to txt number
  17. Kinda looks that way... yeah. It's not necessarily from the current motor which is an alleged recent rebuild.
