  1. Bit overdue as i've been taking pics/vids and forgetting to post. First up, Genuine E30 M3 destroked to 2.0L with a hairdryer on the side. Right Hook 635CSI (Auto ) Mint Condition E28 M535 And saw this E30 while cruising one day. And this 740 that sounded like it was Manual, checked the VIN and it was originally auto, but the way it took off and changed up/down sounded very manual.
  2. Are they popular? Guys asking $300 but I was thinking of offering $200 so if i end up scrapping my E30 i can keep the Bobet reps.
  3. Which series and what price is the m3?Paging Kulgan on the 750
  4. V8 Manual Touring. Jobs a good un. http://bimmersport.co.nz/topic/54220-e39-540i-touring-6spd-manual-for-sale/
  5. http://www.trademe.co.nz/998517414 Seems very reasonably priced unless I'm missing somthing.
  6. Water pumps are a great thing to replace, other causes of overheating would be Blown Head Gaskets, an airlock in the coolant system, and aux and/or primary fans being poked.
  7. Usually a failed thermostat sticks open, rather than closed, the symptom being car takes ages to warm up or never gets out of the blue. Seized open on left vs new and closed on right At 80deg my new one has just started opening but the old one is fully open already, it started opening about 50deg About a minute later the new one is fully open also So it's not just about when it opens, which should be the marked temperature, more about was it fully closed to begin with.
  8. Probably not the handle I'd use if I built and sold E36's... suits a wreckers though. Laughing rather hard just now.
  9. Could be a giggle, http://www.trademe.co.nz/motors/used-cars/bmw/auction-988605173.htm Probably a fair price for the work gone into it at 8k, not sure i'd have picked that chassis for said effort.
  10. I think if you let people know; Motor Model Intention for Forced Induction or Natural Aspiration Street or race use (or both of course) Power goals You may be better served with suggestions. Some engine builderw are better at some things than others. You may even find that the motor can already handle the power you desire (the M20 for example is frequently seen pumping out over 500hp on stock bottom end)
  11. I totally suck at model designations these days
  12. This could be fun http://www.trademe.co.nz/a.aspx?id=994785083
  13. The 318Ti Compacts only have the Aux fan, so if that fails, you're going to have a bad time. It does have the mounting point for a viscous fan though, I've thought about attaching the one off my E30 while it's off the road for some redundancy
  14. I'd say that's cutting it a little fine, google is pretty generous with the suggested trip time of 1:45, roadworks and holiday traffic, and getting out of the airport will slow you down. Book a later ferry and go to golden bay for a coffee, takaka hill has to be one of the best test routes for any car in nz, 365 corners and like 800m of elevation gain and loss.

    2016 340i Review

You seem like one of those folks that doesn't consider SMG to be Manual.

  17. Times when you replace a part of a system, and then that system has a problem, i look to the most recently replaced component in that system. With the water pump, altenator and power steering driven by that one belt, if the belt was loose or worn it might not drive the pump well
  18. The fluid leaking if coolant is probably from overflow... or a part of the coolant system cracked and broken. (Google it, M4X motors are famous for shitty cooling systems) Things I do when this happens; Check how much coolant is left in system Check aux and/or viscous fan work Compression test if you have a kit (open top radiators you'd rev it and watch for bubbles) Check for white/emulsified engine oil Driving or limping with water temp in the red is a bad call. Remember its WATER temperature not engine temperature, so if your system manages to dump all its fluid AND the needle hits the red it's very very bad juju.
  19. Yeah, I'm astounded it didn't managed to start free spinning,
  20. Just discovered this thanks to the facebook group. Streaming it now, making me feel better after my latest revelation. EVERYONE NEEDS TO SEE THIS.
  21. I should probably try to find one in Christchurch.
  22. Pissed, seriously pissed. Should have left my final engine investigation (before making the call on whether to repair or replace) untill tomorrow, rather than at the end of the working week when I'm a wreck. This is not what the end of an M20 crank should look like, FML
