To be honest, $16k seems about right to me. Some may be listed on TradeMe for $25k, but are they selling? Also, the dealer does need to make a margin (they sell cars to make money). In todays market, I think the car you have described should be $20-$22 on a yard. So by the time the dealer prepares the car for the yard then discounts when the purchaser haggles with them leaves them only $1-2k in profit - doesn't seem that unreasonable to me. Very few dealers would make $5k on a car under $30k. Remember, you are asking them to buy something off you that they probably don't want. Having worked in the industry, I know that trade in prices are not simply numbers pulled out of the sky. If it is something the dealer wants to keep, they would work out what it should retail for, and work back from there. If they don't want it, they will ring a dealer who sells that stuff who will give a price they will buy it for stock for which translates into your trade in price.

I've been told these retail for nearly $400! Is this correct? I need a new one, but was shocked to find out the price. EDIT: Can get one from Marshalls for $250 fitted. Does anyone know where I can get one cheaper?

Well, we all know everyone on here loves BMW's but there have been a few "interesting" releases from BMW over time. What model do you guys think tarnishes the BMW brand? What is not worthy? What should have not made production? The cars in the poll are the first few that came to my head... My choice - E36 Compact - responsible for bringing BMW into "Golf" territory and BMW's first effort to do the unthinkable and build something to a price.

At $10k I don't think it was an amazing buy. High kms, imported and (from the pics) not the most immaculate example. Still kicking myself for turning one down at the start of last year, was an NZ new 6spd in white with navy leather travelled 200k - could have owned it for $6k...

Does it really matter where a topic is posted? Was tossing up between "For Sale" and "Off topic". I dismissed "TradeMe" as the car was offered for sale at Turners. Should I run a poll next time to see where the majority think I should post a topic??? My god Bimmersport has gotten anal! That is standard Turner's policy. No matter what you are buying. You can take your mechanic to the auction during viewing time though. Regardless of condition (unless it is a total wreck), at less than half the price of any E36 M3 I have ever seen advertised, it will surely be a good buy. Oh, and haven't all M3's had the pants thrashed off them? - Its the reason you buy one over a 318i! This is a Turners listing, not a TradeMe one.

Won't be a typo. There will be some reason for the price. I'm guessing either its a rough repo that needs to be sold quick, or there is some issue with it that requires quite a bit of $$$ spent on it (like a broken electric roof!).

Why won't it be able to be registered? Still has original live plates on it. There have been quite a few sneaky bargains on Turners at the moment. Probably another repo that needs to be sold regardless. I'd throw $8k at it, even if it was an old dog
