Well, I guess the poll has pwnd me but it still seems illogical. Having owned both, I agree they are good cars but the E36 took the good parts from the E30 and modernised it. The E46 evolved from the E36 etc. I mean, would you rather have an E39 or E34 than your current 545i? I don't think so...

That's a "drug dealer special" if ever I saw one... The iDrive dial is kinda cool though!
-
E36 in every way, except for the M3. If I owned say, an NZ new E30 318i manual done 100km and someone came up to me in the street and said "here I will swap you my NZ new E36 manual done 100km for your car" I would take it in a flash. We all know an E30 is a great car, but an E36 is an evolution of it. Better performance, more reliable (as newer), more technology, more modern looks etc etc
-
Haha, knew I would open a can of worms! Each to their own I guess, but I certainly wouldn't choose an older inferior model if I didn't have to. I've owned 4 E30's, 1 E34 and am now onto my second E36. In my experience, the newer car is always better. I would have bought an E46, but need the cash for other ventures at the moment!

I may be going out on a limb here (and may get my head bashed in too ). But, I don't think any BMW qualifies as having classic status. Well, maybe the 507 and some original M cars. But your run of the mill 3, 5 and 7's are simply cars. I also think that the majority of E30 owners would buy an E36 if the could afford it, E36 owners would buy an E46 etc etc

That doesn't sound good! If you have all documentation and correspondence you should make a claim in the disputes tribunal or complain to the insurance ombudsman (which is free).
-
Yes, people all to often think they are anonymous when posting on the net... Insurance fraud is not a good thing to be stuck with. Is this guy simply on the register Glenn, or have criminal proceedings started?

Would do the trick, but looks like its off a 4 cylinder. Not enough gears!

People have mixed views on this stuff. Finance departments in car yards tend to try and sell this stuff as an add on when you come to pay, the old "it will only cost $3 more per week" trick. There is huge markup on this product and personally I think it is rubbish. I mean, how can it be ok for you car to simply wash I with water for the 2 years or however long GuardX lasts?
-
Yeah, if I have to resort to TradeMe it will be $1 reserve.
-
Bump... Someone PM me an offer, before I have to deal with the TradeMe noobs!
-
I guess to be honest I would have liked a manual, but I just didn't think it was worth it. People tend to want drug money for E36 328i manuals. You never see any tidy ones under $10k. In some cases people are wanting double what their automatic counterpart is selling for. This, coupled with the Auckland traffic led me to accept an automatic. Not worried about the transmission failing as the car has a warranty with it.

Stumbled across this on TradeMe. Instantly recognised it as my old car. Owned it about 3 years ago. Was such a nice unit. Had been pampered by its two previous owners and drove amazingly well. I guess over 100,000km later you would expect some problems, but it still makes you feel sad that someone is now going to pull apart your old baby!
-
Hmmm, did consider it but as 90% of my driving is in Auckland traffic it would annoy the hell out of me. Don't ever forget how lucky you are not living in Auckland!!! I would kill for the long open roads you get in some parts of NZ (sniff... misses Otago ). Also, the Mrs drives it too. Sadly, manuals don't go too well with her.

Will a facelift automatic gear selector fit on a pre facelift car? I like the newer selector (similar to E39 syle) as opposed to the old T-bar. Will this fit without having to do any modifications?
-
Well priced, will be a good buy for someone!
-
Yeah, cheers for that. Got all excited, but unfortunately they won't fit my coupe Will have to go ahead with the depos.
-
A lot of the replicas have the M stickers on them.
-
Yeah, $40 was for a plastic one.
-
Try the dealer. When I last had an E30 (about 2 year ago), I needed a new gear knob. Was only $40 for the newer E36 style

Welcome. Sounds like you are into your beamers in a big way! $3k sounds a bit insulting for your E36. List some pics of it on here, there are plenty of members who are after manual 6 cylinders. Surely it will fetch more than $5k? Your 330i sounds nice. Better pics are required!!!

This is so cool! Apparently it's running a 1300cc superbike engine. Love the bit at the end when he gets it on two wheels.
-
Sounds like fun! Check the weather reports. I got stuck in Linidis last weekend, as you needed 4wd or chains

Welcome. Post some pics of your car. Sounds like a good one!
