  1. Try nicely asking a dealer. I got a whole lot of Porsche posters free from CCS when they had the 911 997 facelift launch weekend a month or so ago.
  2. Would much rather a manual than SMG... I think due to the cost of maintenance, they are less desirable (price wise) than a manual. Driving an E36 SMG M3 was one of the worst drives of my life!
  3. Cheap NZ black 1999 328ci manual The right colour and gearbox - also a big bonus being NZ new too. I think it is pretty good buying at $18k with 100km on it. These cars seemed to have dropped in value a lot lately!
  4. Sorry, should have thought of a more suitable thread subject name... But you get the idea.
  5. The black rubber trimming around the driver and passenger side windows of my E36 is starting to crumble. Is this a common problem with E36's? Or has mine just been parked in the sun for too long? Not sure whether to bother replacing if it will be a mammoth job. Does anyone have any trim they are wanting to sell? Cheers for your thoughts / help!
  6. Welcome! Even though I can't stand the tan interior, the 328i is the best buy hands down. It's black, NZ new, biggest engine at the time and because of this will always be more desirable than a 323i. Price seems OK too. If you find something you like, make sure you get it checked out by a BMW specialist first.
  7. Nice car. The alloys are wrong though, mixes 70's with 80's too much for my liking.

    Stolen E30 f/l

I'm not being a smart ass, but have you tried calling any towing firms? A mate of mine who is a real tightarse always used to utilise free parking in Strathmore when he flew anywhere. He once went away for a week and came back to find his car had vanished. He initially thought it was stolen but then found out WCC had it towed as it was slightly over someones drive and had been there without movement for a week... Anyways, hope your friend finds his car or has good insurance coverage.
  9. I am sorry, your argument makes no sense. Cars are the same price now (or very close to) what they were ten and 15 years ago. I doubt a job that pays $100k now would have paid $100k in 1998, or 1993. Hell, the minimum wage was only $7 in 1998, isn't it now some ridiculous figure like $13? Compare it houses, jobs or the price of the average basket of consumer goods (as I highlighted in a previous post with CPI data) or whatever you like. As for your fish analogy, I am sure a fillet of tarakihi costs a lot more now than what it did in 1998!!! The reality is cars HAVE got cheaper in real terms. I won't claim to be an economist, but have studied it at a post graduate level. Anyone stupid enough to think there should be a car industry in NZ needs to go back to school and take year nine economics. As for the garbage about "the social cost", you might as well pay someone to go and dig random holes on the side of road. Having industry like this in NZ was the sort of thinking Muldoon had with his "think big" project, which was a dismal failure.

    Nz Herald is sh*t

You read it wrong buddy. There is an SL65 AMG and then a SL65 AMG Black Series. Two very different cars.
  11. RUBBISH!!! Lets look at an example... comparing prices with 15 years ago to today. In 1993, a new E36 325i SE Sedan (top of the line 3-Series sedan) cost $99,990 plus on road costs and extras The consumer price index in 1993 was 748.63, the CPI in 2008 is 1077.10. If you extrapolate those figures, you get a 2008 value of $144,000! In 2008, a new E90 325i SE is $90,000, a 330i M-Sport $107,500 and a 335i M-Sport $116,500. Also remember that cars are much, much highed spec'd now. $100k in 1998 = $129k today $100k in 2003 = $118k today Also worth thinking about... a 1988 BMW 750IL at $230,000 new is just under $400,000 in todays money! However if you look at car prices relative to house prices, the cost in real time adjusted terms is much much bigger. Believe me, cars are MUCH CHEAPER thanks to the removal of tariffs.

    So... what did you buy?

    New Govt. and PM

I can't believe there were about 1000 idiots who wasted their vote that way! The stupidity of some NZers never ceases to amaze me.

    Daily Driver

If you are after a daily driver (and intend to keep your toy), I would suggest buying something newer and cheaper to run. That E36 touring seems quite nice, but you could get something a lot newer and less kms for $10k. A few "outside the square" finds: Mondeo ST Stilo Abarth Octavia vRS wagon V40 T4 Wagon Etc etc...
  15. That is absolutely f*cking hideous.

What sort of price range are you looking at? There is HEAPS of stuff out there at the moment. E46 328i would be a good buy if you could find a nice one for under $10k. Can I ask why you have added an Altezza to your list? They aren't fast, are overrated and generally not very nice vehicles.
  19. Short answer: as much as someone is willing to pay for it. Are you trying to sell it?

    New Old pictures of 540iS

I problem a lone voice here, but I think the current set up of the car looks better. I do like Style 5's, but think they date the car a lot. The wheels on it now make it look a few years younger.
  21. Had a thought and, wow, it worked... the "0" is actually an "O". See http://www.carjam.co.nz/car/?plate=nl433o Must have been issued as a personalised plate (to make it look NZ new???). Says it was imported in 1997. I would put my money on it being ex-UK (and hence miles).
