  1. Tested virginising a used MSS54HP DME and then reflashed it with WINKFP with brand new updated software (it bought up every single version of the updated HP software version when flashing - everything worked as it should .. coding index 01, brand new UIF/AIF entry with new VIN and 0km on the record, manufacture date was dated today however (but that's in line with the laptop date), empty EWS ISN table waiting to be sync'd... just like it left the factory : )
  2. The software you've listed don't actually cause unrecoverable modules as none of them do actual programming as such, just minor coding changes. NCS Expert is misunderstood espcially - you just flash a blank .MAN file back to the module and it'll revert back to original setting - you can mess up VO/FA ect but that's also easily recoverable with other factory tools. INPA if you have the wrong language files it just means the readings will be out, but you'd hardly do any damage with that either as it doesn't re-program modules - worst you can do is wipe out adaptations or misalign EWS with it. Progman is rubbish even with the real GT1 or a good cloned EDIC head - the dealership sometimes even brick their own modules using it as it simply wasn't well written. GT1/DIS ... again diagnostic only so you won't mess anything up and it's basically idiot proof with step by step instructions. What I'd be weary of is the cable used ... if not set up with correct ignition detection and merely an emulated Battery and Ignition On all the time that's when you get into trouble later on with some of the more indepth software. I have over 20 different types of cables in my possession - basically anything you can find on ebay or the likes I will have it, and I can tell you for a fact that the majority of FTDI based cables now are all fakes - the chips are all fakes and they can lead to issues later on (if the FTDI mark rubs off it's a fake chip, the real ones are laser etched). Most Vagcom cables are also just a cheap alternative to doing BMW related stuff. I have a genuine BMW KKL FTDI (genuine chip) cable in possession and this has zero modification on the board and the board is way larger than anything I've seen recently - this has true battery and ignition detection separately and is the only KKL cable in my collection that works correctly with every piece of software there is out there. Similarly the K+D Can cables, there are the good ones and the cheap ones and these again don't always operate correctly (From the stuff I've bought in the past there's roughly 3 types of these floating out there and only one has true battery and ignition detection with the correct pins all populated). In keeping with the thread ... I can offer to recover all bricked MSS54, MSS54HP or MSS52 and MSS50 DMEs (all risk no responsibility) and it requires soldering of BDM headers onto your board, so beware of this as it'll never be the same once I do this to it. I can also turn all MSS54HP into a virgin DME (i.e. brand new) - tested today and confirmed to work correctly.
  3. Holy old thread batman!!! ISTA's a piece of crap software anyway ... who cares?
  4. Wee little update and Ray@Hellbm can chime in if he likes: After getting some free time on Sunday, I popped over to HellBM and did a proper test with one of Ray's E46 M3 and we can confirm the following works and works well: - EWS delete (although we've yet to delete the error codes this creates, or we'll probably simply put the ISN table back so that the EWS can resync again and not throw manipulation codes - will do an update on this for Ray later on) - SAP delete (although Ray reports it still came on for a short period which was strange, but the diagnostic live stream shows it has been turned off) - Euro EOBD software (supposedly post O2 delete, but Ray reports that the post O2s are still read - we are presuming that it isn't simply implemented in the tune and cold start) - Sport Mode memory - Tacho warm up lights now in synch with Oil temperature ala CSL - CSL engine values to match the CSL SMG software - I had a quick drive of this and can confirm that it works very well. Although I am of the opinion that this latest CSL SMG software version is a bit tammer than the previous three variants (Ray, may I suggest that you flash it to 7 837 731 instead of this latest 7 843 255 - AIF and flash counter wipe back to 01 - so plenty more flash remains if Ray so inclines!! - Also matched the DME's VIN with the vehicle so everything looks exactly as it should be. Oh and thanks to the generous offerings of Ray@Hellbm ... I now have proper plugs for the bench flash rather than dodgy wiring LOL!!! More to come!!!

    BMW Airbag Recall

Spoke with someone in the know about this ... apparently the "current" list of recall stands at about 1000 ... but it's a really odd list as some cars are covered whilst others are not even if made in the same month and of same model (and of the same part number). I am told it's a bit of a mess at the moment with this recall. Supposedly it's just the passenger airbag in the dash and not the one in the door or the A-pillar. Hope this sheds some light for those waiting for that letter.
  6. I saw a wood effect wrap the other day ... pretty cool I must say.
  7. You are far too North Shore to pull that one off I am sorry LOL!!! I'd buy it to do my racecar project, but it looks far too nice in the photos and has a sun roof : P Well priced in my opinion considering you still see people asking only a couple of grand less for something double the km. Interesting it has a km speedo when it's an import??!! (Aussie import?? Or UK with a swapped speedo by the dealership??) Good luck to the OP with the sale.
  8. ^ agree That and if you factor in the depreciation you'll get on E46s vs a M3, I think in the long run you'll come off much much better, km regardless.
  9. I've replaced enough screens on iphones to know that a simple mistake when doing the job can mean catastrophic damage later on with these units. So very possible your professional guy did some damage when he did the job - if so and they are a professional outlet like you claim, then they are liable to fix it under the CGA to you.
  10. haha yeah I've been lazy with precautions I must admit. The reality is these DMEs are built fairly robust (they have to given the condition they reside in in the car). At least my soldering iron is anti static hehe!! Will get a mat definitely if I am bench flashing for anyone - the MSS54 is a bit of a test bench to see how far I can take things with it - I even managed to brick the DME using WINKFP doing something odd ... luckily I was able to recover with the BDM. Goes to show that flashing over OBD is risky ... very risky!! Happy to report I've learnt a good deal about these DMEs recently and have been able to figure out more stuff than what's posted online. I can basically clone any DMEs now and zero out the AIF(UIF) and flash counters all together .. change VIN ... or as I am about to test soon, virginise a DME (doesn't seem that difficult actually).
  11. If that's the case, tell him to send the phone back up at your cost and you'll get your "professional repair technician" to look at it and get it done right this time? Seems the logical thing to do. And if you've offered that and he still takes you to the tribunal at least you can show the referee you've gone out of your way to make things right and he's just being unreasonable about it. BTW ... no one here is claiming you are scamming anyone - I am simply saying you've not done yourself any favours with the wording of your advert. I once sold a locked iphone 4 with a screen I repaired - I stated both facts clearly in the advert - the seller received the phone without reading the advert properly and didn't realise it was locked to another network overseas and had to use one of those piggy back sims to unlock for it to work, wanted a refund, I told him to read the advert again - never heard from him again and even gave me a positive feedback.
  12. The way the referee would view this would be "professional" = somebody that does phone repairs for a living - so unless you can show that (and you don't seem to be able to) then I would say that's a fairly substantive misrepresentation of fact (which is what the law looks at). I stand by what I've said ... your intentions to scam or otherwise is bit irrelevant on the point of misrepresentation - Courts and tribunals look at FACTS ... the fact of the matter is you've sold and described a phone that was mint and excellent and refurbished by someone that does phone repairs for a living and the phone is represented thus as trouble free (reasonable persons test) which it obviously isn't when it turned up and used for a short duration. Of course they might not award him a refund, it could just be a repair cost (which he'd have to show) to put 'right the wrong' so to speak (putting the purchaser in a position he or she would have been had the misrepresentation not existed). But as I said, not everyone go through with their threats, so you do have a couple of options from here.
  13. Whilst the referees are not sworn in Judges, they are usually very experienced lawyers. When you use the words "refurbished professionallyl" you can bet your arse the referee will point the burden of proof on you to back that up. If I bought a car that was described as "mint", "excellent condition" engine "professionally rebuilt" and the moment I got it it started to have a vanos knock, I'd also be taking the seller to the tribunal. Of course the other guy could just be bluffing, so you can take your chances. I am not the referee that's going to adjudicate this so you are free to do what you want. But I do disagree with majority on here about what's the right response in this case.
  14. In my layperson opinion you'd lose at the tribunal. The following things will definitely go against you due to the way you've advertised it: #Mint# Refurbished professionally Excellent condition Unless of course if you can show proof like an invoice from the professional outlet that carried out all the work and tested that the phone was "Mint" when it left you. Whilst Caveat Emptor applies in majority cases, it doesn't cover you if you've misrepresented - the referee is going to say you said it was mint, in excellent condition and refurbished professionally, this gives the representation that this is a trouble free phone, yet upon the purchaser receiving it for one day it started to display symptoms of faults. The referee is also going to say what proof you have to show it was refurbished professionally? And if you can't show it, then basically slam dunk for the other party. Also be aware that DT can aware costs associated with the claim - i.e. you could be out of pocket more than the $300 if it goes again you. Good luck.
  15. Looking good Jooles ... I've actually driven past your car a couple of times heading out to Westmere !!! Sorry have been meaning to pop by. Lunch time car work ... ha ... I've been doing car stuff in between diaper changes LOL!! - I did an exhaust mount change the other day in record time and even soldered some DME parts together - Beat that! LOL
  16. I think you are over exaggerating the price difference. More like £10k at most spec for spec. Also yes lighter without extensive use of carbon fiber ... So if Porsche can be such light weight the bimmer should be lighter.
  17. LOL ... I guess I deserved that for the posts I've put up ... but not really jealous at all ... far from it. Nail on the head Jooles It's more the treatment from dealerships over the actual day. Anyway, after seeing this video I am far from impressed ... 75hp down and 1.4 quicker on a short circuit... LOL ultimate driving machine I think not. The handling looked a handful through all the sections of the circuit when the Porker just looked absolutely planted. Either BMW missed the mark once again with the handling on this or the tyres are letting what should have otherwise been a good handling car down again. Judge for yourself, but I don't think any of us on here are more qualified than the test driver in the video.
  18. Just the flash chip. Using putty as a terminal and proprietary firmware in the BDM. Yeah I haven't had time to tidy up the wiring ... at least I have heat shrink on the multiple joints at the moment LOL!!! Will do a proper harness and plug when I have time to raid a wrecked E46 for parts!! Yep AM29F200 chips on the MSS54 ... 400s on MSS54HP. Have also removed SAP from the DME ... and put the counter back ... now to test on a 6 speed manual E46 M3 ... anyone have one for testing? Hehe
  19. BDM tested and working ... Holy crap is this thing fast!!! Less than 11 seconds to do a full dump of both chips!!! This versus over obd2 of 9 minutes for a partial dump and over 30minutes for a full dump. Have now created a mss54 without ews, no speed limit, sport mode memory, and shift lights for 6 speed manual. Going to dial back the flash counter on this one also back to 1
  20. I am not really as 59 flashes is a lot when you do one or two changes, but if you are experimenting with tunes and different applications it takes up the slots fairly quickly and to be able to turn back the flash counter is a bonus with bdm.
  21. Many would have followed or tried to follow the thread on m3forums - and I have to honestly say the work done over there is awesome, the way many contributing members have been willing to lend their time and effort into what is effectively 'reverse engineering' the MSS54 DME. The thread have matured to such a way that you can now buy a cable, download bmwflash and buy a licence and flash away at your hearts content. That however wasn't enough for me and the flash counter always bothered me some what - that and the reliance over an OBD2 port. Anyhow ... I've decided to learn a bit more about the process in the hope of perhaps offering this to members who are willing to take the risk of BDM flashing their DMEs (so they don't incur flash counter issues later or want to turn the counter back so to speak) - so I invested in a BDM and a couple of DMEs to practice on first. I will update this as I go .. still in the learning process and not being a computer or programming guy, it can sometimes take me a little longer to get my head around things - but I am learning and perhaps those who are computer programming literate can help and chime in. Anyway ... some photos to brighten up the thread. Hardware: My ultra rangi setup at the moment just so I can quickly pull the bin files from the eeproms LOL (I'll make a proper harness when I have time). Next up is to test the BDM. I might try the EWS delete first .. so if there's a brave soul out there willing to lend their car for this experiment please let me know (using my DMEs of course!!)
  22. Haven't thought about that ... leaving the brand all together so this is first to go.
  23. 1 careful female owner from new (that can drive a manual properly) Basically has the full JCW upgrade catalogue thrown at it (wife went crazy when she got hold of the upgrade catalogue and ticked every box possible). quick run down, but bound to have missed stuff. - JCW Recaro full nappa leather front seats (have original half leather seats and can adjust price accordingly if these are not desired) - full JCW engine upgrade kit including airbox, intake pipe, turbo down pipe, rear exhaust system and engine dme tune (disc included - not many owners kept the disc, but we did just in case you need to redo the dme flash again at the dealership) - full JCW suspension (shocks, springs, sway bars and engine bay brace) - JCW 18" wheels and near new Pirelli PZero runflat tyres (3rd generation run flats that ride like normal tyres) - JCW brembo brake kit (4 pot front) with updated brake ducting kit also installed and cross drilled front rotors and larger sized rear rotors - Full JCW bodykit with version 2 front air splitter - full carbon kit (rear wing, rear diffuser, bonnet scoop, rear boot lid handle, mirror cap) - Navigation system (bluetooth prep only, so you'll need a module and coding to have hands free) with 2010 map. - Full OBD function - rear parking sensor - full length 2 way sunroof - Xenon headlights - Anthracite hood lining (yes this was a cost option!!) - piano black interior trim and full chrome package - standard chilli package - new style window wipers - automatic climate aircon - Sport mode button (overboost function with this giving it 10hp more for short duration I believe) - Mechanical limited slip diff (from memory this box was ticked or was part of the chilli pack package I believe) Rare colour, was only available from Mini in the first two years of production I believe and then NLA Was at the previous bimmersport dyno day and showed a full 200hp at the crank. Currently just over 33k km. No accident damage or repairs of any sort. Has had the full recall items done (tensioner, water pump, idle gears ect) Full Team McMillan service history. Just had a brand new battery put in and service done not long ago (the one with the spark plugs and fluids). $40,000
