Cheapest source of genuine BMW parts (landed)
M3_Power replied to Beeker2's topic in General Discussion
From the UK or ironically Turkey ... cheaper and much much faster and more reliable shipping than the USA. Or your local BMW dealer - build a relationship with them and you'll soon be like me, buying stuff local at better than International prices and parts with warranty. -
There are no user guides out there for DIS ... only a training manual and even that's pretty useless. NCSExpert I would suggest downloading the document from NCSdummy or one of the user guides from the E90 crowd or the R56 Mini (namotoring.com) as those cars tend to have the largest segment of owners using NCS. With DIS, just play with it as much as you can - you can't do any damage really with it, other than reset a few adaptations and delete codes - it is fairly idiot proof, and each command and functions fairly intuitive and basically the service functions are all step by step guided (compared to ISTA or Rheingold in my opinion). As for NCS Expert (provided you have loaded all the correct files in the correct place), that's also fairly idiot proof in my opinion and if you screw up you can always just code an empty FSW_PSW file and it'll basically reset back to original Vehicle Order setup. There's a document out there that teaches how to add and delete VO, but again that's fairly easy to do and plenty of guides online.

Why? Majority of the stuff in there are like 10 years old already ... DIS and how to set one up is now so well known you don't need to visit that website. Heck I can set one up blind folded and on a fast computer in about 10 minutes or less. What do you want to know, I am 200% certain I can answer everything you need to know - and much much more accurately than any other "how-to" write up there is out there (including the two I wrote - which in hindsight, I've now discovered errors with). I've read every single one of them and know them back to front and I can tell you there's not one out there that's 100% accurate in terms of setting one up correctly (including the one wrote by a m3cutters member - perhaps the best one available but still has various errors in its methodology in setting one up correctly). You can even now create a version with v44 coding with v57 diagnostics, has all the TIS files and have Rolls Royces and Mini all activated - I've made one myself and tested it thoroughly and it works perfect. I've even figured out how to install Ken Fister's easydis Natively on a T30 IBM and run a separate laptop with an emulated diagnostic head (which you don't need on Fisters translators) so you don't need to buy a China clone ... Or if you want ... the latest ISTA Rheingold is pretty well sussed now and works almost perfectly and can be installed on just about any duo-core machine with about 3GB ram. The options are endless. And you can't brick your DME with DIS, it's a diagnostic tool ... You can however with WINKFP, but there are factory recovery tools in toolsets that can recover an incorrect flash ... or worse case scenario there are members on this board now with EPROM flashers that can recover it and reset flash counters now.

If this was my car I would pull the KWs out and put the stock suspension back in and let the purchaser decide if they want the aftermarket suspension - with adjustment in pricing to reflect this. No point getting it certed now only to have the next purchaser put more stuff on it and then finding themselves needing to cert again. You either sell a car fully modified with proper certification or you sell it as a stocker in my opinion. This is sort of half way house at the moment.

Congrats Jooles!!!!

Buy the manual one and convert it to SMG I am sure there'd be an SMG owner out there that would want to do a swap

That's definitely true if there's bugger all room ... but the official tool has a side jaw which your standard flat pliers don't have..

When it was with Mike. Can't say I am surprised with the S65 ... it's a terrible engine. Won't be the first or the last to do that when put under stress.
-
!!! I enjoyed buying bits and pieces for it or commission it to be built to researched specs ... have sat in the driver seat quite a bit with my laptop too ... Good times!!

Team 303 - Bimmersport - 6 Hour Endurance Race

NICE!!! Good luck boys!!! -
Good to hear the tool did its job well Noel ... the gap is 2.5mm - from memory it's not quite all the way through (i.e. not completely equal on both side - outside is slightly further out) - tbh I doubt you'd notice too much difference in toe adjustment range as a result of having it equally spaced).

All gone ... till next time : )

I used Michael Hatch from Car Valuations ... Would recommend and seems to know his BMWs amongst many many other brands. Easy to deal with and very fast with his report. Widely accepted by insurance companies and assessors I am told. www.carvaluation.co.nz

I am not one to get into a forum argument over setup ... as each driver is ultimately different and no one on these forum that I know of actually run a high end setup anyway so most of my throw away comments was (especially ones in this post) more or less in reference to the stock setup. Ask anyone that knows the E46 chassis and they will tell you that there is one phase (through the three phases of cornering) that it understeers .... in stock form. That was what I was referring to. Seeing you are such an expert, perhaps you can tell everyone which phase of the cornering that happens.
