When I did my M30 swap I once swapped the wiring loom then all of a sudden it wouldn't start no matter what I did including putting the old loom on, ecu swap etc etc. Took me months to figure it out. Turns out one of the wires at one of the factory grounds had 12v and was shorting. The coil would heat up like mad with ignition on. Check if your coil is hot and PM me if you want to discuss, might be able to help you sort it out.

Steering rack from my 328i. There was absolutely nothing wrong with this rack, I just upgraded to a purple tag so no need for it. It wasn't leaking or anything. Comes with tie rods but they are past their best before date. $120 to members here. Pickup from Onehunga or Howick area, or postage if you organise it and pay for it.

One man's junk is another man's treasure... Why don't we all just drive white Prius's then?

Maybe they have, haha. The guard was like that when I bought the car and I agree it looks terrible, it will be getting painted but I want to do the wheel arches first since I will have to cut them.

Decided to try something new, figured it might make it faster for Friday + a couple of updated photos of the interior.

NZKWs, surprisingly good for the price.

Up next: I've got a pair of 17x9 Style 32s I want to fit all round (with proper sized fat tyres), so I am going to be looking at making a set of arches to accommodate them. I am thinking similar style to how the M535i e28s had. None of this bolt on crap, but nicely done to look like it could have been a factory part. Will be color matched as well. I also want to raise the rear arch slightly, I never liked how much higher the back of these cars sit when the arches are equal relative to the tyres front and rear. Coilovers to actually improve handling and set proper right height when arches are done Custom make sideskirts because I never liked this twisty design, I want something closer to the AC Schnitzer ones. Probably M50 manifold, because despite people saying not to, I still want to do it. LSD diff would be nice as well as a ZF box (I think this gearbox is on it's way out, probably due to all my drag racing). Couple other bits but they will remain a mystery for now The main goal with this car for me is to get out and drive/race. I spent far too much time in the past working on my cars and not actually driving them, so now I want to focus on actually driving. I would like to complete in the Time Attack series when my circumstances allow, likelihood is this is the car I will use. Will see.

I went to Drag Wars round 1 on Friday and managed to pull a 14.52, my fasted time in it so far. Unfortunately no photos or videos. I will be at round 2 in a couple weeks with a few ideas on how I might be able to cut that time down.

And of course my favourite part.

I've been slowly working on it since I got it, and lately I've been able to do a bit more. So far I've done: Manual swap with Getrag Style 32 wheels 17x8 et20, painted by myself Clear indicators all round Removed rear seats and sound deadening, put black vinyl to cover the rear area Installed front fixedback bucket seats Momo Prototipo steering wheel (my favourite wheel ever) Redid the door cards in white vinyl, with a special touch Removed rear speakers and all amps etc Revshift Polyurethane 95a engine, gearbox and diff mounts Aluminum steering coupler joint thing to replace the rubber flex disc, my friend custom made for me Purple tag steering rack with brand new tie rods (What a difference!) Rear muffler replaced with straight through twin pipe muffler Carbon cold airbox (which I want to improve to feed more cold air) AC deleted and all components from engine side removed Couple more bits here and there

Now that I'm actually doing some interesting stuff to this car it's time to start a thread. I bought this off a member on here almost 2 years ago. Here's the day I picked it up. Completely unmoslested factory 328i, Mtech, non sunroof, auto, even had the factory radio. So of course, I had to molest it...

My old E28. Only car I wish I still had. It was very rusty on the sills and stuff which is why I got rid of it, but man it was an awesome car with the M30, Getrag 265 and LSD. Would get thumbs up literally every time I drove it for all kinds of people, girls cheering out of car windows, owners of M3s and M5s complimenting it. I still can't believe the attention it got, with the flaking paint, mismatched fenders and pieces of rust floor falling out behind. It would do run after run at the drags with no complaints and no issues, super consistent. Even got 2nd in a DYO with it. And to add the cherry on top I made more from it than I ever spent. If any car deserved to live it was that one, and to this day I regret cutting it up.

Glad to hear it. These are becoming seriously rare now so glad to see one saved.

That's probably the igniter wire to the starter. Common problem. Hook a relay up to it and it should turn over. Or you can jump two pins on the diagnostic port with the ignition on and it will start it. I think it was pin 11 and 16 (but I'd recommend you double check this, it's been a while).

2001 E38 728i, one of the last to be made
M M replied to lord_jagganath's topic in TradeMe discussions
Biggest thing to check is all the suspension components, particularly the front control arms and the steering components like tie rods. Notorious on these cars and can cause horrible vibrations (I battled this). Steering box can also have a dead spot in the center and cause vibrations. This one looks like a nice car though. Also, the M52B28 in my e36 with 230,000kms is anything but tired, so if it's been looked after I don't see why it would be. -
Not sure what offsets Herbmeister's ones are but I have 17x8 et20s on mine with 225/45s and they barely rub with rolled guards. If you went with 215s I doubt you'd have a problem.

I have a rear muffler but the pipes have been cut off. You are welcome to have it for free if you want it, but you'll have to organise shipping. PM me if interested.

Rough value for insurance and my own knowledge.

Agreed, I was thinking around 6-7. -
Tried to send you PM but it said you can't receive messages. Contact me on 021 0255 0419.

Good working viscous fan from my E36 328i. I did an electric fan conversion so no longer need this. These apparently have a tendency to explode at random so no warranty or guarantee. I don't want to end up with a bill for your new bonnet. $30 pick up from Onehunga or Howick.

Not sure if this is of use to anyone but I've got the rear muffler from my e36 328i. There was nothing wrong with it, I just wanted a louder exhaust. The pipes are cut as you can see in the picture, otherwise it's untouched. $30 Pickup from Onehunga or Howick. Not shipping unless you really make it worth my while.

Brand new 95a poly transmission mounts from Garagistic. Fit E30, E36, E46, E21, E28, E39, E90, E92. Bought them to use on mine but I just made an order with Revshift with matching engine and gearbox mounts so no longer need these. Never been on a car. $50. Pickup in Onehunga or Howick area, or can post, probably won't be more than $6.

If it's anything like my E36 M52B28 it will be plenty loud with just the muffler replacement. I got a twin pipe perforated straight through muffler from Chase to replace the rear one on mine and it sounds fantastic. If you just want noise I doubt you'll need to do anything further. I do like Zero's suggestion about gutting the cats though, might look into doing that.

I need a coolant expansion tank for 328i E36, the one that sits on the fan shroud. The small outlet on the top broke on mine. Anyone have a spare laying around? Thanks
