Hi guys, car is a e39 540i After suffering an oil leak (Which is getting fixed on Wednesday) I would like to clean out all the remaining oil which is left there as after a while of driving there is a smell of burnt oil. Which are the parts to cover up? Wash while engine is running or disconnect battery? (Searched google and many different opinions) I also read dish soap would work? Any other important notes I should be aware of? Thanks

Does anyone here have a bimmersport.co.nz number plate frame? Saw one on someone elses car but can't seem to find the frame being sold on this site. If I remember correctly top part says www.bimmersport.co.nz and bottom part said New Zealand online BMW community or something like that.

Are the FSU or blower motor resistor used compatible between models and years? So would a 528i FSU work on my 540i etc? Thanks

Car is a 1998 540i. Air con seems to be stuck on max settings as soon as I turn it on. Seems to be able to blow hot and cool air fine. As soon as A/c turned on there is a loud humming noise coming from back of engine. Also seems to be shaking a bit from where sound is coming from too. Any suggestions? Thanks, Andy

Thanks Charles, will have a look first thing in the morning. You seem to have some experience in e39s? As for climate controls it seems to be blowing at full speed but I think when I turn it up higher it could still blow stronger. AS for compared to the 528i... I guess acceleration off the line isn't that different as these cars weigh a bit but as soon as it starts going its no comparison. Definately pulls a lot harder than the 528i on the freeway.

Hey there, I bought a 540i today after selling my 528i, Car ran fine and drove from dunedin back to christchurch alright. After parking in for a while around 3 hours, I went to start it back up. Engine cranks but wont fire up first go. Second try cranks for a while and finally starts up. After starting up idle drops quite low (on the first line above 0rpm). Also another problem I have is the aircon blows extremely powerfully. Also when using aircon there is a very loud humming kind of sound coming from behind engine? Any ideas guys? Thanks
