Ok, when I "one touch" the sunroof to open - she goes back all the way. But the is a crunching sound about 60mm from the front of the sunroof. When I one touch it back - it gets stuck in this exact same position. I then have to manually close it and it is ok. Thing is the right/rear of the SR (when closed) is a good 12mm lower than the left side/rear. Obviously an alignment issue here. I took the allen tool out of the toolkit, took the sunroof/phone speaker panel off and stated to wind it back manually to re-align the roof. When I do this it makes the SR tilt up with the inner cover moving back as normal. Is there a way of getting to the back of the sunroof to adjust those arms without taking the whole headliner off? Or is it possible I have broken teeth in the tracks??

Na - no smoke, oil anything. When the car is cold you can hear the manifold whistle when you gun it - and is quite jerky under 1500RPM

MASSIVE BIMMERSPORT TYRE SALE
entscheidend replied to zenetti's topic in Sponsors & Preferential Rates.
I had Sport Maxxs on the 540i - awesome tyres. Sticks well in wet and dry, not to mention quiet inside - tread is good too. These tyres are German made also. I recommend. -
Glen - finally got time to do my PCV/CCV this weekend and I found my torque wrench. I am changing the Oil tube (from block to diaphram), intake gaskets x 4, vent tube o rings (inside CCV), rear cover, gaskets both ends. Will post Sunday to see if there was a difference

Im a pro at fitting these. E36 I presume? I will fit them for $100. Headlights/fitment - takes a bit of patience
-
Adrian - sussed these ones out. These are definately a good way to go if your on a budget. I did measure the fan shroud and these radiators appear to be a few mm's short - not a major, maybe it was my Chinese measuring tape. Hows the 540 going?
-
Guys - its not for me and yes I would go brand new and OE, maybe Nissens next time Its for a mate and hes scraping the barrel for coin- hes the one who was fired from Work and Income because he had a criminal conviction in the 1980's (hes got a beautiful 99 6 speed with individual black/ redish purple interior) It appears he doesnt need urgently now - he has used Wynns Radiator stop leak. It actually works and doesnt leak - how does this stuff work??
-
Graham - are you with State? If so the red book value on these are reasonable

I have mate who has a E39 540 - 1999. His radiator has shat itself (very uncommon ) Looking for a radiator that has been recored etc, or second hand. Any one? Ray at HellBM? Cheers guys

It has to be the PCV Valve all clogged up, maybe the spring is stuck in it?? It doesnt have much in the Bentley Manual about this Glen - Will try to find some time to come out your way Martyn - Be good what you find out about that 97 model Rjac001 - Dizzy Cap?? on a M62 the centre caps make you "dizzy" while the car is in motion if you stare at them; I checked all 4 and they were all good.
-
I am deciding on which to replace next - should I go PCV (Oil Valve ar rear of manifold... what ever it is called) of change the MAF??

e39 540i stalling at low revs...hunts while idling any ideas?
entscheidend replied to wobbly47's topic in Maintenance
I would start with getting it scanned for faults. How may miles? Whens the last time the spark plugs / air filter was changed? I would start with the: 1. MAF sensor 2. O2 sensors 3. Intake -
Glen, put new spark plugs in. Has made a difference performance wise and has made it less "shakey" on idle. The problem is still there, just not as bad. Could it be the thermostat? this hasnt been replaced at all. Or should I bring the revs up a bit? (sits at 400RPM with AC off) Smoke test?
-
Glen, I will swing around tomorrow morning. No time today with Month end crap at work ...
-
Woops I meant the oil separator
-
ok - Ill pop in early afternoonish (1pm) Thanks Glen The intake gaskets have been done so I presume the CCV has been done. The PCV hasnt been done though
-
Had it scanned - no faults except for a continuous voltage from the DME???
-
Car is a 96 540i When stationary and AC off, idle dips below 500RPM and appears to be rough with vibrations through the cabin. When you turn the AC on it jumps to 600/700RPM which seems ok but then after 60 seconds of remaining idle it drops again and seems rough with vibrations. What I have done: Cleaned the ICV, Air temp sensor, MAF and checked for vacuum leaks. I have disconnected the MAF, Air temp sensor and makes no difference. Driving her is no problem, she gets up and goes with no hesitation. Could it be that she needs an update with the DME to increase the idle? Or could the ICV be shot? MAF? Air temp sensor? Cats plugged? Ideas fellas??

E39 Electronic Upgrades
entscheidend replied to nordschleife's topic in Audio & In Car Entertainment
Dont bother...unless you have the time and patience. The whole kit is quite pricy, at least $2500/3000. Bimmernav and Roveractive in the US sell complete retrofit kits. You have to rip up carpets, pillars etc. It is fun doing it first time with OEM equipment, but I wouldnt do it again. Save your time and money and buy one with TV/Satnav as an option from new.
