  1. For your radar - take out the panel where you sunroof, phone piece is. Inside there should be a solid green wire more to the passenger side. Tap your radar into this wire and route through the grommet to the rain sensor / mirror for your radar. DSP is pointless IMO, it should be there on the menu if you have it. For your other queries - Jochen is your man to speak to I believe.
  2. Im not sure of a E34 exhaust setup (does it have a middle and a rear silencer?) If you have a small budget -rip out the silencers and replace with a straigt pipe - it does sound good and you dont get to much drone inside. It costs nothning if you know a welder / muffler shop and you will get the V8 sound. Or, you could put a aftermarket silencer on it. These exhaust are good to replace the stock one (without inbuilt resonators) 1. Aero Turbine (cheapest) 2. Magnaflow 3. Bora 4. Eisenmann 5. Remus (expensive - but the best) None of these (depending on your fitment etc) dont sound too raspy etc, and doesnt sound like a Mustang, Camaro - its just right Start with your exhaust first, if still not happy then look at different Cats, resonators etc? I know with E39s if you muck about with the OE cats it plays up with the DME, O2 sensors an is a pain in the ass. It should increase HP for some of these exhausts, it lets the exhaust breathe better. Stick it on a Dyno afterwards, you may be surprised.
  3. 5 series offset, if its from a E38 etc I could bore the centre out? HellBM - does yours have tyres?
  4. Im looking for a set of 4 Style 32 wheels (with tyres - not fussed) Can be staggered also. Anyone have a set, please let me know
  5. northland folks ... I am interested on a X model in Whangarei, who is the best person to see to get a PPI (Pre purchase) in the Whangarei region? I see Northland Prestige is gone - who else is there with diagnostic equipment etc? Thanks
  6. Look for one that has a service history for sure or has been looked after. Common faults are of course the cooling system - radiator, then thermostat, water pump Oil leaks - valve cover gaskets, oil sump, power steering Control Arms / bushings etc go on higher mileage E39's If your fussy like me, other problems that dealers dont tend to focus on are sensors - MAF, O2 sensors etc. These can go and affect MPG and make driving sluggish etc. You can unlock the OBC on the dash and select option 19?, it will tell you if there are any faults with OBD. Pixels going out on the dash are a common problem. Singapore - I wouldnt touch but have more spec than Jap - similar to NZ including Satnav and phone Japan - I have found have a better life but dont have as much spec (more cloth, no PDC, metal SR etc). Also you cant put a Euro plate on boot without buying a NZ New/Singapore boot. All in all the E39 is the best BMW ever made
  7. mmm .... sultanas are goor to eat when you drive. What type of wheels are they?
  8. Sorry - I knew where it came from started with a S and Singapore came to mind. I know service managers from the dealers here and they enquired for me. They only mentioned it came into CHCH and listed the visits and needs
  9. I enquired about this car last time it was for sale, so BMWNZ advised it had (may have been fixed now who knows) issues with the Transmission plus other things they couldnt pick up faults with. Its also Singapore and the wheels are cheap imitations. Wouldnt touch it. Although the 6 speed is nice
  10. I also have a Bell STI, with james bond type case and all. PM me if your interested. IMO these are better then the V1 - the kick arse on the straights pickng up the cop coming towards you 2 km away.
  11. E46 sets are cheap - look through www.ebay.co.uk or www.ebay.de (type Geman though, it wont pick up much english) you can get the brackets, monitor and MK4 Computer for less than $1000 depending on how strong our dollar is against the Euro. Get wire harnesses from Rover Active, Pelican parts etc - dont buy used - some wiring is not there and can be confusing when reading directly from the manual how to install it.
  12. I have driven a E39 540i6 and honestly I have hardly seen many here in NZ for sale. there seem to be more E34 manuals. Although the manual E39 540i is more of a drivers car and fun to drive than the Auto/Steptronic - the Auto aint far off the manual in terms of performance. I find that the E39 V8 is quite reliable if you keep on top of it all. But if you are concerned about maintenance costs Id go for a E34 M60 - unless its comfort you need in the E39 I would go E39 540i - if you want Satnav and what not get a NZ New model and retrofit it into it (its easy and takes a whole weekend) - Im not a fan of Rejected Asian crap that comes here. Or better yet - buy mine
  13. ok - I will accept offers from $14,000. The owner of my new car wants to move his out. New auction on Trademe.
  14. Listed on Trademe: I have found a X5 I would like to purchase, If the 540i does sell on Trademe in the next couple of weeks I will take offers around the $14/15k mark. I dont have space for 4 cars hence the reason this beautiful car has to go :-( Trademe Link: http://www.trademe.co.nz/Browse/Listing.aspx?id=203089252
  15. What if you put a resister on the circuit, or disconnect the angel eyes / park light circuit from the LCM? Make a small circuit via the LCM so it thinks there is no chnage in resistance? oh - I just noticed what you have mentioned obove
  16. mmm ... what if you switch it from one side to the other? Failing that you could wire it in to the ignition so there on permanently without having to use the light switch to turn them on
  17. How have you layed out the wiring to and from the ballasts / CCFL's? I did this on a 95 E38 and all I did was insulate the wiring with electrical tape and it made that problem go away? I gathered the DRL's were just picking up feedback from somewhere?
  18. mmm .. I need a smaller wrench or a actual T27 right angle driver. I cant get 3 of the bolts on the back
  19. Thanks Glenn - one more question, is there a way to take the rear cover off (or PCV) the back of the intake manifold without the taking the intake manifold off?
  20. oh ok .. maybe I could take a little less than $15/16k
  21. We have had it scanned - not picking up anything. I have had people tell me it could be the ignition switch as E53's with the same motor etc have had the same issue. So you think I should fix the vacuum leak and see what happens before I move to the ignition / timing side of things?
  22. ok - This car is a 2000 540i M Sport. It started with long cranks before it would fire up (this only happens 25% of the time whether in the morning or parked for 30 minutes and come back). Once going she goes like a rocket with no hesitation at all. We have changed over the crank sensor and put cps's from a good 740i and see if that made a difference. nothing. Checked for spark, fuel pressure, relay all good. Did a smoke test on it and it appears there is a vacuum leak by the PCV (rear of the manifold) No faults picked up either except for a O2 sensor which could be the vacuum leak This couldnt be the reason for the long cranking can it??? Could it be a ignition switch??
