    Benz E63 AMG

I put Royal Purple Synchromax in our 525i, and it improved the cold shifts a lot. It wasn't too bad anyway, but hot and cold aren't much different now, unless you change really fast while cold, then it feels a tad notchy.. It's a completely different transmission of course, so I don't know if you can use Synchromax . I ordered it from Amazon, and it was WAY, WAY cheaper.
  4. HAHAHA! We need a quotable quotes thread - that's one right there!
  5. Got to Auckland, visit Car Folie. Took about 45 mins to do our E39, came out mint. I went for the one of the fancier tints and it was $225 all in I think. Tell them are are a Bimmersprter though - it's cheaper then.
  6. The Civic Hybrid looks like a civic, which helps, they're not stunning, but "normal"... not like the Prius (shudders). Maybe they want us to think that they are from the future, hence the price.... My "electric hybrid" just looks like a sh*t old pile of crap held togehter with duct tape and cable ties (it is!)... not modern at all.... Costs under $0.35 a week in electrickery for 90km of commuting that takes me 3.75 hours. In the car takes 2.75 hours. Is that more what you're after?
  7. This scenic was a manual diesel. I know the autos are crap. nice analogy! The thing with BMW's, is there can be a lot of stuff that can go wrong on the fancier ones. Dads E30 has been cheaper to "repair" over the 14 or 15 years he's had it (now at 240K), than his previous Toyota cost for the 4 years he had it. The BMW has only had 3 actually repairs - a starter, an alternator rectifier and a wheel bearing (from memory). The rest was stuff that I'd class consumable - radiator, clutch, shocks, brakes etc. I think it's only cost about $9K, over those years, including tyres! Even our E39 has been very good - I know they eat suspension, but it handles so well. I expect to have a few issues here and there, but couldn't stand to drive a corolla (had one for a work car! ugh).
  8. Toyota make some crap too. They don't always score well in reliability studies. They're just like anything else. Some are reliable, some really aren't - they not even consistent.
  9. Works at home now anyway.... will set work bookmark to the forums page Cheers.
  10. Nah, they specifically mentioned the milage - I tried to look in the expired listings, but must be too long ago. I think the really high milage stuff doesn't go near trademe anyway. Who wants to pay trademe fees on a car with 500K on it? It's probably only falcons and commodores that are worth a little bit with that milage. They mostly aren't worth anything, and if it's still going, keep driving it - it's still usually cheaper than buying another car (long term). There isn't any reason why a car can't easily do 400K - they should do a lot more, but kiwis are too tight to look after them properly. I've had 3 subarus with 280K+ with no issues (325k, 280k and 295k from memory). My brother in laws uncle had a Mitsi L300 petrol van that died at 490K, because a staff member kept driving after a radiator hose burst, and a mate of mine had an ex-rural delivery Mitsi L200 diesel with just over 700,000 on it. He treated it like sh*t, and it still kept going... I think he just left it somewhere on a farm when he moved on . I was just speaking to my neighbour, and he's deciding whether to keep or sell his 1994 corolla - it's got 380kms on, uses a bit of oil, but no real issues - has had one clutch (a new hilux with that kind of milage would probably had at least 4 by that milage, not to mention all the injectors!)
  11. It does look cool. I guess everyone will find it a bit weird until it's become familiar. Two things I noticed: - When I click "new content" on the home page, it say "no new content", then I click again and the new stuff appears. Not major, just weird. - Also can't see all the smilies, which was the same before... is that just me??? (at home and work though). They just show the words.
  12. You don't buy interesting/fun cars for reliablity though... that's what a Nissan Latio is for I don't think I'd buy an Alfa... but they do sound awesome, especially the old carbed ones I think they wanted $1800 for the scenic... I stikll wouldn't have bought it if it has 30K on it though
  13. That's not starship milage (maybe for an alfa...) Our old Impreza had about 325K onit when we sold it, and was a great car (just too small). There was a renault scenic on trademe a while back with 725,000 .
  14. That's a bit cryptic to even turn into an opening for some spam!
  15. New oil and filter, belts and tensioners and a gear shift boot.... but it was a LHD one Topgaiters sent me the correct RHD one FOC, and it only took 2 days to come from the UK

definite contender for Barrys Boys Shed Of The Week...
  18. Agreed, It's not been uncommon for me to find shipping from UK/EU to be well under half of US prices, sometimes a LOT less. I just brought 2 (large) shocks for my VW van, 2 sets of 4 pot brake caliper hardware , a large rubber mount for 29 Euros from Germany. I once had the same place send me 2 struts, 2 standard shocks, and a complete tie rod for 54 Euros. Also never got picked up for duty, as they post with the German Post Office which seems to help
  19. Ah... the Vw Valiant (actually saw one registered as such ) Had a 72 like that that I was building "for the Mrs" when she came back from overseas... was going to be a 2.0 type IV efi turbo... I'm sure she'd like it
  20. Which is weird with them going on about it being a facelift... but they were Sptember 2000... unless M5 were different? It's probaby just had the angel eyes and facelift grilles added.
  21. Actually... those taller may may give you slower accelleration, lower top speed (struggling more) AND higher fuel consumption. Possibly. 6% is quite a noticable increase in gearing. You may find it needs to change down a gear more often, and use more throttle to acheive the same speeds. Not really comparable, but as an example, I once fitted tyres that were 7% over of an 850cc Daihatsu Mira (came with the mags). 5th gear was basically unusable, on a particular hill where 4th would normally hold 70K until the sharp top corner, I had to change into third and use full throttle up the entire hill, and it still slowed down. Even after I accounted for the odometer mis-reading, my fuel consumption was HORRENDOUS - I think it was something like 40% more fuel used! Same Wheels, $270 but in Palmy..... didn't you get the car down that way??? then just need tyres to suit! They were on my watchlist, so I can ask them to relist, if you want.
  22. Huh? I thought he wanted MORE reliablility???
  23. Agreed. I'm too tight to pay for auto repairs, and I can do a manual box myself
