I imagine 265/40s and 275/35s would fit aswell unless clearance is really tight on your car. Higher profile might fill the arch a bit better too if the 265/35s have a gap.

Interesting. Guido at BM Workshop Grey Lynn has been working on these cars since they are new and said they're diagnostic equipment would ordinarily work on the M70. Plenty of info at there on the web about connecting with the older systems. Will keep reading and keep trying. Seems an absolute waste of money trying to fix faults without the direction of diagnostics.

Sweet... Might be the perfect excuse for a wee drive to one of my favourite parts of New Zealand!!

Thanks Will... If I get stuck (which is a distinct possibility), where is your place?

Don't think Tom will be jealous... He's one of the very few people on here who can actually afford to buy one of these cars, so it's probably us that should be green. What he will be is unsurprised. He hasn't been overly impressed with the dealers' service over the years. -
I found a bit of water in the boot of the E31. No obvious point of origin, no wet carpet panels, etc... Probably tail light seals but who the f*ck knows?! It's a job that can wait. Solution for now: don't drive in the rain. Part it undercover.

Thanks Will... How do you find this stuff out?! That could be potentially a massive finding. Currently the car's diagnostics are not working. BM Workshop said they'd need to pull modules until they found a faulty one that's interrupting comms. If it's simply that it isn't plugged in, it could save a huge amount of time (Josh and I were going to spend a day pulling modules!!)

One is red/black with yellow dashes the other is white/yellow also with yellow dashes. Any ideas?

Fair enough... Only a few mms between 40% of 265 and 35% of 275 though.

I found some cheap professionally recon'd one ex-USA ($350 inc shipping for both), so I'm going to wait til they arrive then attempt to recon mine as backups (or for sale).

Good to know, thanks Andy.

This is the DIY I found - http://twrite.org/shogunnew/files/fontes/DK_Motor_Refurbish.pdf - looks pretty comprehensive but you reckon it's not worth it, right?

Fair enough... I'd quite like to do a V8 conversion - perhaps we should discuss a swap! haha BTW - have a look at this: http://www.trademe.co.nz/Browse/Listing.aspx?id=756734826 Andy's also got an E32 750i parts car... Not sure if he wants to sell the engine though! EDIT: Twin turbo M70 or M73 would be an absolute monster.

Actually my m pars are in pretty good nick with some typical kerbing. I like the wheels and was really only hypothesising about wheel options as there are many other things I would do (including refurbishing the m pars) before I'd buy new wheels... It would be cool having something a little bit different though! At the moment, night and day. My 540i was tuned and running perfectly with a tuned 5 speed auto. The 850i is currently running rich on 8-10 cylinders with the wrong rear tyres and a 4 speed auto so it's hardly a fair comparison. Will get back to you when I've got the 850i running better but generally the 850i feels faster at 100kmh+ but the 540 was way quicker 0-100. It's a bit deceptive in the 8er though as it's so big and smooth... You don't notice the speed as much!
-
3.91 seems to be a pretty common upgrade. Think stock is 3.15 or even 3.64 in the 4 speed.
-
Could be interested if it's a straight bolt on or the E31. Will do some research.

Did a trans service over the weekend. Only around 5L of old fluid came out (capacity according to literature is 8.1L) and 6L went in. Too a drive to settle down but seems a bit smoother now. Hasn't solved any other issues of course. Also found out that these engines don't much care for platinum plugs. Had bought some straight replacements for the NGKs that were on there but will have decided to return and get the OE Bosch F8LCR plugs instead to see if that helps with misfires. Rain suspended play and I ain't got a garage, so didn't get to fit then new O2 sensors and fuel filters. Next weekend.

1) Will check 2) haha! 3) No... Good idea! 4) Yes please

Spectacular!! Now just need $5k for wheels and tyres!

^ +1 Will be pretty special done properly and not just a straight engine-conversion! Can't wait to see the finished car.
