I sold a set of brand new Michelin Pilot Super Sport 265/40/R18s to a Bimmersport member. I gave him a great price as he was a member and we had a bit of a yarn when he came to pick them up about the car he was putting them on, etc, etc. Then, within a couple of days, the tyres appeared on TradeMe with a significant profit margin added on (has a current bid for $200 more than I sold them for). Can't decide whether to be annoyed or just accept that human beings are c*nts.

None, Scott? I think the CSi one suits the car perfectly and also makes a little less Knight Riderish... especially on the black cars. In red as it should be... This: vs this: Okay, so that's a bit unfair as the former also has great wheels and is a bit lower but you get the drift. Perhaps I just bite the bullet and get this one?

Been thinking about a front spoiler for the E31. I was completely sold on the CSi kit but there are other (potentially cheaper) options and thought I'd float a couple on here (there are quite a few horrible ones that I've ignored)... This is a long term purchase, not something I'll do right away: CSi spoiler (approx. $500 for FRP or $1500 for OE with all the mounting hardware) Wings West spoiler (US$350 + shipping ABS plastic w/ mounting hardware) Racing Dynamics lip (US$650+ shipping/tax ABS plastic w/ mounting hardware) Also quite like the one on the blue car in this pic which attaches below the standard bumper spoiler but no idea what it is:

Pretty certain the LCM is in the front of an E39 as well, under the carpet trim just in front of the door and under the dash assembly.

Post your address and I'll get some guys I know to keep an eye on your place

Having recently gone through the process of (attempting) to bring in a late model (97+) 840i I can tell you that you need to spend a lot more than $8K to get one that will be easily complied here - regardless of rust. Plenty of cheapies in the UK, but they're cheap because they have problems and the good ones still fetch a reasonable price. PS There's about 40 million people living in southern England so one or two bimmers to be had but as Jon says, it all gets snow from time to time... Just less frequently the further south you get. An M5 that's lived south of the Watford Gap and been garaged all its life should be fairly rust free though but expect to be GBP10K+ for one in good nick with low mileage. PPS The TM auction looks well priced and a great car. If the engine is looked after it'll do another 200K kms easily... That's a lot of motoring, even if used daily!

Sorry, completely forgot! Will try and do so tonight if I can find them in the tip that was once my shed!

I reckon it will be very difficult to get an even colour (especially with black) on material that's already stretched onto the panels. Probably better to paint it with a proper fabric spray paint like this: http://www.simplyspray.net.nz/#!simply-spray-upholstery-fabric/c17lp

He's a BMW Club member (don't know his name but Milan - BEEMN - will). He also has a very nice TVR which is presumably what's keeping the E24 out on the street in the rain at the moment.

When it was my own cat I could live with it but now that he's gone to the great scratching pole in the sky my tolerance levels have dipped. I have a car cover... But frankly it's a PITA putting it on and off each night and I might as well put a sign up saying "Hey douchebags, tag my car cover".

A fast and furious orange E39 on the latest season of True Blood:

Ha! The 850 lives most of its life in the secure car park at work. If I leave it in our drive the neighbours' cats sit on it and the starlings that live in the eaves will rain toxic sh*t on the bonnet!! Wish we had a garage!

Replaced trans mounts this morning. Simple job made simpler thanks to a mate's hoist. Has eliminated some of the shake under load. Considering the old mounts disintegrated in my hands, my guess is new engine mounts will probably eliminate the rest of the shake under heavy load.

Ideally would want 8.5-9s up front and 10.5s rear but doubt I can rustle up the cash for the tyres at the moment so will probably have to stay on my nice-to-have list.
-
Sounds like fun... Sorry to be pedantic though, a car built after the E46 M3 cannot be its predecessor. Perhaps you mean its true successor (presumably meaning that the E9x M3 didn't live up to the E46)?
-
Pity those R5s won't fit... They'd look right on the E31 with some big ole shiny lips on them.

Swapped out the crappy and way too small 255/35s on the rear for Martin's old Dunlop 275/35s. Wheel aligmment on the driver's side was way out so got that sorted at the same time. Feels like a different car!! Haven't taken it on a decent drive yet but am expecting this will have sorted the 110kmh wobble. Should also improve fuel consumption some as well. Love feeling the car getting steadily better and better.

^ this. E39 549s are amazing cars but can be expensive. No matter how competent a DIYer you are it's worth spending more to get a well cared for example. It'll save you money in the long run!!

hot laps in the 2015 bmw m3 yesterday

They are with Tom... And the Porsche is winning I think. -
Feedback from the guy who refurbs the DK's is that the car needs to be loaded for it to work properly. The car will 'self-sync' but only after around 500 miles of (not very pleasant) driving.
-
Was that thread I emailed helpful? Got a whole bunch of parts in the last couple of days including refurb'd DK motors, new MAF plugs (and MAFs are on their way), new exhaust tips (cans are on their way), rep mtech rear diffuser and some trim pieces. Hopefully once the MAFs and DK motors are fitted and the throttles are sync'd the car will run perfectly. Idle is pretty smooth now I've replaced the oxy sensors (a tiny bit rough from a vac leak somewhere so will smoke test the b*tch once all the repairs are done).

I am stoked and will be really really stoked when mine is 'immaculate'. Some way to go yet but it's still pretty sexy. Amazing the attention it gets (compared to the invisibility cloak a 540i wears) and the amount of people that think it's a new(ish) car. Timeless design.
-
Refurb'd DK motors have arrived so I'll try and fit this weekend. Further reading has indicated that the sync procedure may be for BMW workshops to 'hasten' the sync for customers and that the adaptions will actually sync over time even if you don't follow this procedure... Jury's still out though.

Video yourself doing some proper skids in a crowded pedestrian street so you can explain the difference between your accidental non-dangerous skid compared to some bad-ass dangerous ones that you like to do on the weekend. The opinions of internet troll, jeffbebe are in no way shared by me nor do I condone this kind of behaviour.
