  1. Willing to donate my old lego technic super car for the cause!
  2. I can think of better things to do than mow lawns on xmas (unless you have a ride-on mower and you need to perfect your corner entry) I used to work at the Warehouse when I was a student, and yeah f**k it was unbearable listening to Mariah Carey's "all i want for xmas" come on every 2 hours.Working till midnight there during xmas made it even worse.
  3. BMworkshop I am pretty sure still rebuild transmissions.
  4. Could be a wheel speed sensor. Get it scanned.
  5. I'm not sure, it's a mod/hack for the v8 cars. Certainly tightens up the turn-in and braking feeling. Yeah, as per Jooles - Gutted rear mufflers. It's got a nice growl, but when it comes on cam it's a bit raspy. I like it though, wish there were more tunnels..
  6. If you're ever up in AKL let me know and I'll be happy to hook the Gt1 system up.
  7. Yes that pesky sticker is quite difficult to remove. I think it will need some heating up... off to go break the other halves hair dryer
  8. Happy Face! Finally got DIS and TIS working on an old work laptop. Josh (Hybrid) may know if I'm correct but it appears that the DME s'ware version is from 2003 ? Even though the car was built in Sep 99' possible DME swap out, or s'ware update ? Had a quick play around in GT1, in particular with the VANOS test, which looks to be in good shape. There is a whole heap of misleading info on the net about getting DIS to run on a laptop. If anyones interested, pm me and I can give you all the details about what you need to get it running. Also another update on the Bumper, finally got it back. Looks a lot better now, just need to fit all the trim pieces and new lower compartment covers. The headlights and fog lamps are niceley pitted, so they will be getting some attention during my summer break.
  9. Lowered on 'Makita special' springs g. It just doesn't make financial sense for GM to keep producing the commonwhore in OZ. I reckon even if the Commodore was still to be made off-shore, how many generations of Australians are out there that would be put off by the fact that the commodore is no longer made in 'Straya ?
  10. That is a seriously good looking car! Can't wait for them to become 20k NZD. Interesting to see Mitsi Turbo chargers are used. They're bloody good units in my experience with them back in the vr4 days...
  11. The msport people normaly refer to is the m-tech 2 spec e39. You get the m5 look a like bumpers and a revised m-tech 2 suspension (m5 springs in the rear on the 540i models). Prior to that you got m-tech 1 e39's with low slung suspension and a couple of other sporty options. This one was not a factory m-tech 1 or 2 equipped e39. But who cares, may as well be now with the upgrades mentioned. Not like it's a collectors car.
  12. Bought a ps2 and ps3 (twice) just for the gt series games. Since sold them including (regretfully) my g27 wheel. I pretty much spent all of my free time when gt5 came out. Im trying to resist the urge to get a ps4 and gt6. From reading the reviews, GT6 seems to be a slight improvement over gt5 On the other end, forza 5 is a bit of a let down, less cars and more micro transactions.
  13. I read the alan carr book twice, even attended the seminar. Each attempt lasted 3weeks tops. I am now 3months smoke free. The first week is hell. The second like attending an opera/ballet show. The third week gets easier and you start to forget about it. One thing I noticed on this attempt and hopefully my last is the bloated feeling I had for the first 2weeks. It was awful and discouraging. I took champix this time round, if you can hack the vivid dreams of the engine in your M5 throwing a leg out, it actually does work.
  14. Someone's read the Alan Carr book.... Which I can recommend being a great way to think differently about cigarette smoking.
  15. Yep, sure will. If the guides are completely gone, you will see wear on the timing chain (remove oil filler cap)
  16. OP - did you get the car checked out mechanically ? At that mileage, if it hasn't been done already, id expect the timing chain guide rails to be on their last legs. So long as those don't go, the cooling system has had plastic and rubber things replaced, and the trans is still butter smooth, you should get a good run out of it.
  17. That sucks, what year was the 540i ?
  18. They don't suck any more money than a 540i. If you're handy with a spanner, armed with some diagnostic s'ware and know where to look for parts, maintenance on an E39 M5 is not that bad.
  19. Loose the rear spoiler and the blue graphics, drop the price to about 8 or 9k and it'd be a good buy imo. Maybe drop the price by another 2k if they are cheap crap wheels and tyres.
  20. Oh and u may get away with just replacing the runber washers under the rocker cover bolts. Looks like your culpret in that pic.
  21. Had same issue with my old 540i. Remove the trunk catch mechanism and check the spring. Probably snapped due to age/fatigue. If you're lucky you may be able to uncoil a bit of the spring and re attach it to the latch. The lower trunk lid panel has to come off to acces the lock mechanism. That panel can be stubbourn, just remember to remove the plastic grip part first.
  22. Does any one know if specialist tools are available for rent in the Auckland area? I need to borrow a ball joint removal tool to swap out the ball-joint out of the lower rear hub. Similar to this : http://www.ebay.com/itm/Laser-Rear-Suspension-Balljoint-Bush-Tool-Bmw-Hand-Tools-CCA-LASER-SPECIALIST-TO-/320998095068?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_3&hash=item4abcfa38dc
  23. Any joy disinfecting there Glenn?
  24. Thrust arm bushes replaced with uprated items from an X5. Had these in my previous 540i and they made a significant difference to braking and turn-in feel. Same results produced when installed in to the M5. No more wobble wobble at 80 - 90km'h and steering wheel jolt during sudden braking either. The bushing on the left was far worse cracked than the one on the right. I suspect these were the originals. They did well for 170,000kms in an M5.
  25. Yep, sounds like windows is due for a re-install. You could spend hours on chasing this virus down. I would admit defeat, backup what you can. Format your disk partition(s) and re-install windows.
